[ He's said Hello to her a few times, seen her around. Seen her ice, more specifically, especially from an aerial point of view, and Toothless has gotten his tongue stuck to the walls of her home more times than his rider would like to admit, but he's never actually had a full-blown conversation with her before. Hiccup doesn't think Elsa's rude, she's just very intimidating difficult to start up a random conversation with. Oh, sure, she's got fancy ice powers and she knows a million ways to tactfully end anything that bores her, but he? He has a dragon. It's such an obvious ice-breaker (urgh) that he actively avoids it, which sort of gives off the impression he's avoiding the queen, too. They could both ramble on and on about their respectively obvious differences, he'd just rather not barrel into their first real meeting alone that way.

Why in Thor's name he (loosely, distractedly) agreed to play this dumb game is beyond him. It could be worse, he supposes, suddenly pushed in a wardrobe with his crush and feeling very much the awkward fifteen-year-old again as he steps on her foot with his pegleg ("Sorry, sorry! Low ceiling!"). He's not sure how, but to reiterate; it could. He got what he wanted in a way, there's no ice or dragons in sight.

[Honestly, for all that Hunters are to be 200% aware of their surroundings and end up dead more often than not when they aren't, there's a part of Kite's mind that's still not entirely sure how this situation has happened. He knows his luck is iffy sometimes- Crazy Clown is a testament to that.]
