dinner party meme.

~DINNER PARTY TIME~

You're at a dinner party. Who is throwing it, or if you're throwing it - that's up to you. These things always, when the wine is flowing, end up dislodging old family grudges, friendship feuds, and sometimes, even general good spirits. There's always a lot to do - so, how are you going to spend your evening?

01. >> Socializing?
02. >> Cooking?
03. >> Hosting the dinner?
04. >> Avoiding said dinner?
05. >> Killing the vibe!
06. >> Just chowing down.
07. >> PARTY GAMES!
08. >> Hanging around in the kitchen being a menace?
09. >> Drinking away your sorrows in the lounge?
10. >> Drowning your issues in the foyer?
11. >> Making out with a convenient individual on a balcony?
12. >> Raiding the liquor cabinet and making an escape to the pool house?
13. >> Or just generally making an escape?

[ He watches her sternly for a moment until her dexterity proves true and she seems to be handling the dishes with ease and self assurance. He felt the band around his chest lessen just a little and he breathes easier until she speaks up again and there's a sudden whack of his knife against the cutting board. ]

Oh?

[ he covered up his faux pas by quickly prying up his knife and resuming his cutting, a sheen of sweat appearing on his brow again. ]

Is there something more I can help you with? I'm always happy to do so if I can.

[ And he was. There was so very little he wouldn't do for the royal family and his friends. His code of chivalry would never allow him to do less. ]

[ Lucina pauses then, lingering over the stack of plates. He’s offering assistance, as ever; fully prepared to bend the knee in servitude. She’s not used to being attended, not to the degree that Chrom, Lissa and Emmeryn had been in their youth - now, she reminds herself - having barely lived the life befitting her station. It’s made her a touch shy around Frederick, but - ]

I simply wanted to tell you what an honour it’s been, getting to fight alongside you, Sir Frederick.

[ Her childhood nanny, or near to, killed in a skirmish before she knew how to read. She will protect him as she will protect all of them.

Her expression shifts, back into that infrequent smile. ]

[ and Frederick's heart grew three sizes bigger that day ]

I would say the honour has been all mine.

[ and he gave her an extra special smile, letting the warmth in his heart match the warmth of his grin! ]

I couldn't ask for a finer comrade on the battlefield. You've saved my life just as often as I've saved yours.

[ and not to mention he got to see Lucina all grown up and independent. It actually almost brings tear to his eyes which he'll swiftly blame on the onions. Which he'll wipe away with the metal plate of his armguard never leave home without one just in case of a campsite ambush ]

I could do no less.

[ There would be little point to the second chance Naga offered her if she let Sir Frederick, or Aunt Lissa, or Basilio, or anyone perish in this bloody time. After all, Frederick’s life isn’t the only one at stake - there’s his child as well, unborn and unconceived but known to Lucina. A valued comrade and a dear friend, and one of the displaced ones besides.

None of this renders her words any less true, however. Frederick is her father’s valued steward, a loyal knight and a wonderful man. She’s happy to be able to speak with him like this.

Far from wonderful with words - she’s not like Owain after all, or even Laurent - Lucina does her best to let her smile, grateful and warm, convey her meaning. ]

[ and Frederick is not nor has ever been a man who needed words to know the mettle of a friend. So long as they do their best and stayed alive at the end of theday, that was all that matterd to Frederick.

It was all that had ever mattered to Frederick and his own smile warmed another degree or two. ]

I know. You haven't given us less then your best since you've arrived in our time.

[ And it still breaks his heart knowing the circumstances she was forced to join this timeline. He should have been there. They all should have been there to protect their youth. ]

[ Seeing Sir Frederick smile so unabashedly - truly smile, eyes crinkling - is yet another indication to Lucina that her wanderings through time were never in vain. It’s only ever been the quiet moments, smiles and laughter from the dead, from lives saved, tragedies averted, that have reinforced her purpose. It’s not a smile he would wear in wartime, the princess knows this. ]

I am glad you chose to remain in my family’s employ unto the end, Frederick.

[ Her head bows, then. She knows the rules of her station, and who deserves gestures of fealty. Religious overseers, imperial royalty, Lady Naga, her own esteemed mother and father. Frederick is no noble by blood. However, he is just as deserving of respect as anyone she has met.

Some might whisper at her breach of decorum but Lucina finds herself well and wholly not caring.

Only a moment - to not embarrass him - and her mismatched eyes raise once more. ]

[ if she had thought to spare him the embarrassment, she'll be mistaken when she sees the faint line of a blush cross his checks as Frederick and Lucina raise their support level to S-rank another rank and with an audible gulp, he cleared his throat. ]

Your thanks are unnecessary. It's an honor to serve as I have. You and your family mean everything a lot to me.

[ and they always would because in their happiness, he found the kingdom's happiness and by extension his own. To serve was an honor and a joy. He would have it no other way no matter what events might unfold in the future. ]

[ Almost as if she hears his struck out dialogue, Lucina’s smile reappears, self-assured. It’s a smile she would have worn a lot more had she lived out her life the way her father had wanted; for now, it’s a pleasant possibility, a rare bid of genuine happiness.

Straightening, she goes back to assisting him in his preparations. ]

I hope that, well - [ here she pauses, taking an uncommon moment to go over her words with more precision, ] should you want to divide your time now more unevenly between my father’s service and your own family, you’d do so without hesitation.

[ She’s seen, after all, the way Laurent’s face lights up by Frederick’s presence. However discreetly, however infinitesimally. Lucina knows her comrades too well to be oblivious to such a thing. ]

[ he just blinks in utter and abject confusion, as he continues to chop up veggies with precise and routine movements because what she said made no sense what so ever. ]

What do you mean? I give everyone my full and undivided attention.

[ although maybe that was her point. Maybe he should be giving everyone more of his attention then simply what he has been. If he juggled that duty around with a different one and multiple by ten and got x hours of fewer sleep then normal then maybe.... ]

Er—

[ Oh, Frederick. Her hands work deftly, wholly separate from her words and her thoughts. The task he’s assigned is repetitive enough; she has little trouble working on auto-pilot and giving most - if not all - her attention to the conversation. ]

Perhaps you should consider the folly of that, Sir Frederick. Attention can’t truly be undivided if it is spread equally to all.

[ Chrom and Olivia love him, yes, as does herself and Inigo. But, they are not his promised or his blood. ]

There are more who need you now. I know Father would give you relief if you asked for it.
