FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S

During the day, it's a place of joy. But you aren't here during the day. Maybe you've desperate for a bit of cash, and ignored the ominous warning on the newspaper ad. Maybe you've eaten at the pizzaria since you were a child, and thought that taking up a job here can't possibly go wrong. Or maybe you're just playing the game under your bed covers at 2am.

Because seriously, who the fuck would work here for more than one day.

This is a meme based of the new horror game, Five Nights at Freddy's. As you would expect, this is a horror meme. Therefore, warnings for blood, gore, mutilation, and if you're really fucking scared of living dolls and the like you might want to think twice before posting here. A playthrough for the brave, and a small snippet for the faint of heart:

You've been hired as the night guard at a pizzaria called 'Freddy Fazbear's Pizza', and it seems that the animatronics seem to get a bit... quirky at night. On your first day, a phone recording from the previous guards starts to play, and it explains that you can't let the animatronics see you, or they will force you into an animatronic suit. And with all those wires and cogs in an animatronic suit? Yeah, that isn't going to end well.

Unfortunately, you can't just close the doors and pray to whatever deity you believe in. You've got limited power (you know, budget cuts) to make it through from 12am to 6am. Checking security cameras to see where each animatronic is, turning on the hallway lights outside your guardpost, closing the doors- all of these take up power. Use it all up? Black out, and you're left exposed. Good luck surviving that.

The guy on the phone is good at giving you tips, at least-- but these robots don't just seem to be... robots. They only move when you're not looking, and when you are looking, they have a tendency to look straight at the screen. (People who've seen Bonnie at Cam 5 will know how batshit terrifying this is.) And they seem to be... rather intelligent. Wait, did that one just talk?

There's 4 animatronics- Bonnie the purple bunny, Chica the chicken, Foxy the fox and Freddy the bear. Foxy's special, in the sense that it's got a whole area to itself and if you don't watch it enough, it will run down the fucking hallway. Freddy rarely leaves the stage... but he will if you run out of power. Oops.

You've got to balance limited power, limited view and trust that lady luck is on your side-- just to survive to 6am.

Options:

1. FIRST DAY: You and your new co-worker take the job as night security. Maybe you're childhood friends, maybe you're strangers to each other. But when the phone recording starts playing and you both realize this isn't exactly what you two signed up for, you'd better start working together. Fast.

2. OVERTIME: Maybe you're a sucker for the paranormal or you seriously have a death wish, but you haven't quit the job yet. Quite the contrary, in fact. You're working doubly hard. Except tonight, it seems that they're getting more... lively. Hey, did the rabbit just speak--

3. FUCK THIS SHIT: Hell no are you staying cooped up in the guard room. You're going out of there. Maybe you're gonna investigate the back rooms, maybe you're going to find someplace else to hide, or maybe, if you're actually sane, you're going to try finding a way to escape. Still, is that a the music box theme song you hear nearby? Maybe leaving wasn't the best idea...

4. THEY GOT YOU: Uh oh. Well, they're here. Time to say your last words before you get brutally slaughtered by walking talking animatronics.

5. CHECK PIRATE COVE GODDAMMIT: Hiring more than one guard was a mistake, because in the heat of the moment, you're arguing over what to do. Maybe they want you to close the door, but you've only got 20% left and 3 hours to go. Maybe they want to look at another camera. In any case, try to settle this dispute fast, or something else is going to do it for you.

6. WHY IS IT DARK: Oops, out of power. Quick, play dead!

7. JUST PLAYING THE GAME: You're not actually stuck in a life-or-death situation. You're just playing it on your computer. It's still fucking terrifying, though.

8. YOU CAN'T CONTROL ME: Or make your own prompts!

Dude, this is literally the worst job I have ever taken. And I've worked some bad jobs in my time.

[Wally shifts uncomfortably in his chair, eyes darting between the doors and straining to make out possible shapes in the gloom. It feels like this is some kind of karma for him pestering Bats and the others about how he can totally work stealth missions, bugging them to just give him a chance, that he can hide who he is like the best of them and get intel and everything. He was sick of people just assuming he'd mess up, so when there was that report about a suspect pizza place with a unnervingly high number of missing night guards, it seemed a great way to prove that he was just as capable of being subtle as anyone else.

If he wasn't ever regretting it now. Originally they'd wanted him to see if someone like Toyman had a hand in all this, but now he'd be happy to just make it through the night without losing something vital or blowing his cover.]

...did you hear that?

[The answer to that question should be obvious from the way Keith has attached himself to his co-worker's arm. Staring wide-eyed at the dark doorway his fingers dig into Wally tightly.]

The- the music? Or the laughter?

...Do you think we- I should go investigate?

[He absolutely, positively, definitely did not want to go out there. And certainly not on his own. But he couldn't risk Mr West getting hurt if there was danger and he'd been told many times before that he wasn't supposed to use his powers in front of other people out of his hero suit.

Why hadn't he tried to convince the other heroes to help investigate this place? Just because HeroTV hadn't felt some rumours he'd heard while on patrol to be worth investigating, one of the others would have still come if he'd only asked. He hadn't expected it to be anything he couldn't handle on his own - an ordinary criminal, at worst another NEXT. Not whatever this was.

Checking the security cameras he lets out a very unheroic squeak.]

Mr West, the stage! It's empty!

[Wally almost jumped a foot in the air when Keith grabbed onto his arm, and even then he had to fight the urge to just bolt out of this place. He couldn't just leave the guy to defend himself against murderous animatronics after all. Heroes had to protect people when they couldn't protect themselves. Even if it was from freaky, killer robot things. Even if the hero was out of costume and terrified.

Wally swallowed hard and shook his head rapidly at the suggestion.]

Going out there on your own is a terrible idea. Besides... [He gave a tiny laugh that was more than a little nervous and eyed the door.]

Something tells me that we're gonna find out where those things went real soon.

[Taking another deep breath, Wally glanced back at the other man and tried a more reassuring smile.] Just watch your door, okay? If you see something, hit the door button as fast as you can. Better we're too safe than not, right?

Right. Again, you're right.

[Mr West was right. Going out there wouldn't help. All he could do for tonight was make sure they both made it to morning. Then he could ask the other heroes for help to come back here. Slowly releasing his grip on the other man, Keith turns his attention back to the door. Straining his ears for any new sounds coming from outside, it was hard to resist the urge to simply keep the light on constantly.

The wind gusting about the control room and rattling the mess of rubbish and papers wasn't helping when it came to listening for danger but he was too nervous to think about doing anything about it. He'd gladly take fighting heavily armed Mad Bears again over sitting waiting in the dark for the mascots of a family pizzeria to appear.]

Do you think- [a nervous gulp] They were serious about trying to stuff us in the suits?

[Keith may not be noticing the wind, but it's sure worrying Wally a lot. He glances around quickly before answering the question.]

Personally, I don't wanna be the one to find out, do you?

[Glancing around again, he frowned and nudged Keith.]

I'm a bit more worried about that wind, actually. Did it seem like there was somewhere wind could be coming in here to you? The last thing I want is for us to get caught because we missed another entrance.

Wind? Ah-

[Oh. Oops. The aforementioned wind dies down immediately now that he's thinking about it. It's not remotely suspicious of course.]

No, I think it must just be the fan? Making the wind. It's just the fan.

[Which wasn't on... But luckily that explanation would wait as Keith hit the light to check his door again. And promptly shrieked. The door slammed shut and he clung to Wally's arm again as the wind whipped right back up, stronger than before.]

Bunny- The bunny! He's right outside!

[Okay, that was weird, how it just died down like that. Like it heard them or something. Or Keith just noticed, which might be more likely if the guy's reaction was anything to go off. Seriously, Wally had pulled the 'it wasn't superspeed it was just adrenaline that made me get out of the way in time' card enough time to get an idea when someone was trying to cover for something out of human normal.

But this wasn't exactly the time to play the metahuman power guessing game, that was for sure. Especially when the other man yelped and Wally saw what he was worried about just as the door slammed shut.]

Right outside and we've got barely any power either. Not enough to last the night with the doors closed anyway.

[Which was a real problem, especially since he wasn't sure he'd be able to take those things out before one of them got him or his friend here. Sure, Wally could move fast, but the problem was that so did they.

Wait...]

Keith, try not to panic but... when was the last time we checked up on Pirate Bay?

[More than anything he missed his jet-pack right then. Being able to fly them both to safety would be much better than sitting staring at the door wondering if the very not-cute bunny was still on the other side.

The power was definitely going to be a problem if they weren't careful. He needed some sort of plan for what to do if that happened so- And then Wally spoke again, reminding him of another problem.

Slowly turning to look wide-eyed at Wally he shook his head.]

I haven't checked for a while... and if you haven't...

[Reaching out with a shaking hand Keith pulls up the screen for the security cameras and slowly, unwillingly switched to the camera watching Pirate Bay. The curtain was open. And behind it nothing. Just darkness. Paling, his eyes snapped back to fix on Wally and the one open door behind him.]

Oh no you don't!

[He can already see the fox right outside the door, moments away from running in and finishing them both. There's really only one option when faced with that, and Wally kicks it into high gear without a second thought, blurring over to the door and hitting the control to slam it down almost on top of the mechanical monster.

There's a thump as it bangs against the door ineffectually, and he heaves a sigh of relief.]

That was way too close.

[Keith doesn't even have time to react. He's staring at the darkened doorway, about to do something, he doesn't know what. Knowing he can't move fast enough but needing to try all the same. And then Wally is gone and-

The door is closed. They're safe. Somehow. But he can still agree-]

Definitely too close! And again too close!

[The thumping stops finally as the thing gives up and hopefully goes back to hiding and he can take note of the way Mr West is standing by the door. He wasn't a moment ago. And the door closed just in time though he'd been sure they wouldn't be fast enough to stop it.]

You're very quick. Are you a NEXT too?

I, uh, I think it was adrenaline? [Wally tried, failing to sound entirely certain about it himself and mentally cursing. Batman wouldn't have had this problem. Batman wouldn't have been in a situation like this to begin with.

Although something else Keith says gets his attention.] A next? A next what?

Oh, alright.

[Adrenaline? He'd seen people react faster than usual under pressure but that had seemed awfully fast still. But then, he hadn't really been watching Wally that closely. He must have imagined it.]

A NEXT. A person with unusual powers.

[He'd thought they were known of even outside of Sternbild. It wasn't like other cities didn't have heroes too.]

I think sometimes people use a different name, something starting with 'm'?

Oh, you mean like a metahuman? Yeah, there's a few superheroes like that around, if that's what you mean. But I'm just a normal guy, I swear.

[Better to change the topic though, since a bit of further question would probably make it pretty clear how 'normal' Wally really was.]

But you said 'too' in there earlier. Does that mean you're a NEXT?

[Blinkblink. Oh, he had said that, hadn't he? Well, it wasn't like he went out of his way to hide what he was. It wasn't the sort of thing he normally told people but at the same time he wasn't going to lie. Especially when he was so awful at it.

While he thought about how to answer, Keith checked his door, sighing with relief when there was no sign of anything lurking outside. Much as he hated to do so he hit the button to open it again. They did need to conserve power. Tearing his gaze away from what was now a gaping pit of blackness hiding unknown dangers he spared Wally a glance and nodded.]

Yes. I am. Does that bother you?

Should it?

[Wally grinned, shaking his head before checking the other door again, just in case.]

Nah, I don't mind if someone has powers or not. People can't help stuff like that, just what they do with them, right?

Although if you have something like laser vision, it'd be really helpful here.

[Despite himself Keith grinned back.]

Exactly! That's exactly right! It's what you do that matters!

[Just as quickly his grin disappeared as threatening laughter suddenly echoed around them from seemingly nowhere. Gaze fixed back on his door he shook his head nervously.]

No, nothing like that I'm afraid. No laser vision or anything. All I can do is float. It's not very useful here. It would be much better if I could do something like make electricity. Then we could just keep the doors shut all night without running out of power.

[First Rotwang's androids now these animals. Why did these sorts of things always seem to be bad?]

Man, I'd give anything for unlimited power or a force field right now.

[The laughter sent a chill up his spine and Wally checked the doors again, not liking the way things were going right now.]

How much longer do we have to do this anyway?

[Nervously, he pulled up the cameras and checked again, muttering a curse as he noticed the fox face peering around the curtain.]

It's gotta be almost time, right?

I think it was almost 4am last time I checked the clock?

[The clock had gotten buried under the rubbish on the desk with earlier breeze so Keith tore himself away from watching his door again to dig it out. When he finally unearthed it and caught sight of the numbers on it's face he let out a excited shout.]

It's after 5am Mr West! The shift's nearly over!

...Do you really think everything will just go back to normal when it is though?

[Not that he didn't want things to go back to normal, so he could go back to HeroTV and get everyone to help bring the evildoers responsible to justice. It seemed a bit too simple for bad things to just stop because their shift was over.]

Hopefully those things will stop moving at least, then we can do something more permanent about--

[Wally stopped as right then and there, the power decided to die on them. The doors wide open and both of them utterly defenseless in the dark.]

Oh come on!

[Pitch blackness and no way to know where the things were. But maybe it wasn't so bad, maybe those things wouldn't find them in the dark?

That hope lasted less than a minute.

Tinny music dragged his attention back to the open door where a pair of glowing eyes stared at them unblinkingly. Heart in his throat, Keith did the only thing he could think of. Putting himself between Mr West and the robot he raised one hand in readiness, the bright blue glow lighting up the room as he activated his powers.]

Stay behind me, Mr West.

Hey! [Instinctively, Wally grabbed for Keith's shoulder.] What are you going to do, float at it?!

[Okay, really not fair at all but he was not going to let someone get hurt just to protect his identity. Other people's wellbeing was more important than that.]

I can handle this.

[The music slowed as he sped up, blurring towards the glowing eyes and using them as a guide for where to rain a few hundred punches at superspeed while he cursed the lack of light. Better lighting and he could have taken the damn thing apart rather than relying on brute force, as it was, he felt like he was doing a lot less than he wanted.

The music was still going, if slowly, and Wally started to really worry about how this was going to turn out... and then it suddenly stopped and he thought he heard something like a rooster crowing?]

Just stay-

[Just as Keith was readying himself to try and blast the robot to pieces there was a sensation of something moving quickly - faster even than when he flew with his jetpack - and a blur of movement. The blur was in front of the bear and something was happening - there was a constant sound, an almost rumble that he couldn't place and-

The music stopped. A rooster crowed the morning and the clock flashed '6AM'.]

-back. I-

[What had just happened?

...The bear wasn't moving at all any more. Their shift was over. They were safe. ...Mr West was standing in front of the bear. Mr West had been behind him. He hadn't seen the other man move but now he was over there. And something else had been happening with the blur and the bear before it all stopped.]

...I think you might have a NEXT power Mr West.

You think?

[Wally stepped back, wincing and holding a hand that was throbbing an awful lot now, because apparently it wasn't enough that his attack hadn't done too much, he had to hurt himself doing it too.]

Do these things seriously just stop at 6am? Who programs killer robots to do that?

[Still nursing his hand, Wally aimed a kick at the thing and winced as that ended up doing nothing but possibly bruising his toe as well.]

Stupid hunk of junk-! I think I broke a finger back there.

I don't know but I'm glad it's stopped.

[Coming over to Mr West's side, Keith shot the bear an uneasy glance in case it was somehow just biding its time. It really didn't seem about to move though and he turned his attention to Wally's hand with a concerned frown.]

I'm sorry you got hurt. You were trying to protect me. Thank you. And again, thank you.

[It was worse knowing Mr West hadn't needed to defend him and it was only because Keith had lied that he'd thought he had to be the one to stop the robot.... Although maybe Keith's powers wouldn't have done much against it either. They'd been lucky no matter how he thought about it.]
