There's no need for elaborate backstories for this AU. You go into heat, rut, whatever you'd like to call it. You've always done so since you were of age to do so. It's a socially accepted norm, and people have gotten used to the difficulties that come with the mating seasons. Life goes on.

Isn't this alpha/beta/omega, then? No, not at all. In this meme, there are no gender-variant genitalia unless your character comes prepackaged with those. No giant cocks - again, unless your character is already packing - or self-lubricating assholes or anal wombs, and no knotting. Unless that's your thing. There's also no set in stone roles with regards to dominance and submission, and some people do not even feel the inclination towards either. Still, there are a few similarities, mainly being that the pheromones of others can put someone into heat that was not in it before and the bond between mates. In addition, some humans/human-stand-ins have created packlike dynamics in response, but this is not universal.

In this meme, it's just regular old human...oids feeling the urge for sex. And by "urge," we of course mean all-consuming drive. If characters choose to ignore that urge, it will backfire on them. The more they put it off, the more they will lose their control, becoming more irritable and aggressive, and eventually be nothing but a rutting animal until the need to mate is satisfied. Not all heats call for mating, of course, and most people can just relieve themselves, but when you do mate, you feel the urge to stay by their side and essentially "nest." These desires don't always pan out into offspring, and mating isn't forever unless it's mutually decided upon. However, impregnating your mate is said to be one of the most euphoric experiences a person can have, even if some people only mate because they want to utterly possess someone, as mates are bonded for a while.

increase in dominance: Exactly what it says.

fighter: Part of your process is seeing who's worthy of you by testing their mettle. That, or you want to fight anything.

That was probably the part she hated the most. If anything, Izumo was a creature of control after all - over herself, her surroundings, her life as a whole. And heats were decidedly not issues of control, particularly ones like this.

Masaomi took up one of her hands. The action wasn't completely unexpected and she ought to have been able to steel herself to it. An unbidden rush of heat hit her cheeks in time with the bit of reassuring warmth the action brought. Like it or not the man was the closest thing to the concept of a mate that she had and her body naturally reacted to the favorable, warm reassurance he was offering.

Her lips took a frustrated downward turn in spite of the distinct comfort she felt. She hated this.

"That doesn't necessarily mean it still stands as an agreement. You could have said no." She muttered her words as she spoke them, turning her glance aside. A few teenagers lingered nearby, boys young enough to be barely part a few of their own heats and still so easily enraptured with such scents. Izumo restrained the urge to hiss at them.

He couldn't blame her, particularly in the current context, for her frustrations. Honestly, he didn't use the pill, instead allowing himself to go through a natural cycle. His own weren't all that bad, and he's pretty sure that he managed it well, only encountering too much of a problem when he was confronted with something out of the ordinary.

... Like now, really. Masaomi was trying to play it cool, to be reassuring for her and show that he was on her side, but right now his body reacted as well. He might have paired with others at different times, but her "body" was still the one that his own seemed to react to the most, probably because their agreement ensured some level of regularity (even if it wasn't always strictly necessary, particularly with how she controlled things) with her which meant that he, on the instinctual level that all men had deep down, couldn't help but see her as a mate.

Which is why he was so glad to focus only on her at the moment, to see her as the only thing in the entire world right now. He was pretty sure there were one or two other people looking at her and he was pretty sure that intoxicated as he was right now off her scent he might end up starting a fight. Making a scene.

"Come now, we're also friends. I couldn't put my friend into that hard of a position."

Friend... yeah, that's a good word for it. He reminded himself of it, verbally. Because the heat off his hands still holding hers was threatening to surge through his body even more than it was now.

She side-eyed him a little there. Friends were tenuous things for her. After this much time she logically and reasonably doubted Masaomi would do anything to betray that friendship title but still...

Izumo sighed out a little, cheeks still flushed as she started to tug him along with the hand both of his held. If she just stood here and let him hold onto her hand, this was going to end up more public exhibition than she really wanted it to be. It had been a while after all and even if his grasp was inspiring comfort, it was inspiring other things too.

"It's more frustrating than difficult. I can't stand all the posturing!" Sure there were some who might be more forceful but the majority of men and women who had reacted to this heat all seemed to want to present themselves as good mates. It almost made her long for the days of highschool and the awkward fawning that went with heats.

"Right, right. Your legendary hatred of all the ceremony involved!" He said this with a laugh, allowing himself to be pulled along. His strides were longer than hers, so it was very easy to keep pace all things considered, though he dare not make a move to lead her. No, that was part of the agreement, that until such time that she relinquished control (so basically never) she had it. He didn't mind that, and in fact did his best to respect that, in so far he was able to.

But them, he liked to posture himself. Oh, he sure did like to present himself to be the ideal mate, and he knew that he regularly made an ass of himself when he fell into that position or reacted to others. He had to actively resist being showing for her, which is probably why he'd resorted to good humor here (or well, as good as he could manage, anyway )

"Precisely." There was a reason Izumo didn't have a regular mate after all. She couldn't stand any of it or at the very least told herself as much. She had no desire to go through the posturing, the devotions or anything like that. And she certainly didn't want the whole family deal either. She'd already lost one, hadn't she?

She led the man on for a while before finally looking over her shoulder a bit. Her expression was meant to be unaffected. "Do you mind if we go back to your place this time?" Typically she was one for neutral grounds - love hotels for shorter periods, more traditional hotels for longer. Not that the pair had ever needed to board themselves up like some rutting couples did. Now and then it was at her home or his but those were rarer occasions.

And now it was his turn to be a little bit surprised. Oh, he could smell on her that this was a bad one for her, and he wanted to be showy, to be powerful, and bee impressive to compliment it. Still, Izumo was the one he had trusted to be firmly in the "driver's" seat so to speak until such time that it was relinquished in his favor. But... his place?

Wow, she either expected this to last quite a long stint or a spirited stint. Both of which were exciting to him, even if he felt bad for being excited for it the minute after he felt it. So-

"No, that's no problem. I wish I knew ahead of time, but you can tolerate a bit of mess, I'm sure."

"Your place is always a mess. What would be any different now?" It sounded plenty haughty enough but he ought to know her better than that by now. She made a flippant motion with her free hand. A little mess was the least of her concerns at the moment. Whether this would take the evening or longer, she hadn't a clue.

Izumo led the way like she had walked the path a hundred times. She certainly hadn't visited him that often but she always seemed to have a good sense of direction.

"Yeah, you caught me. I just like to keep it clean when I'm bringing a pretty woman home."

He allowed himself that joke at least. Sure she was in control, but he could be a little bit cheeky, as he was being led.
