Hiei's reputation apparently preceded him.

Kurama was good in groups. His rosewhip and various plants were good for multiple enemies as much as one-on-one. But when faced with a group of all upper A-class or lower S-class demons intent on killing, well.

It wasn't that he hadn't expected the ambush. Hiei's opponent this round came from a group of vicious demons who made up for their lack of morals with ambition. They intended to stop Hiei on his way to the ring and kill him, while his actual opponent waited and feigned innocence until he was declared the winner. What he hadn't expected was the rest of the A and S class demons of the group, rather than lackeys, showing up.


Elegance wasn't something Kurama had managed, this fight. It looks like surviving was something he only just barely managed. Youko Kurama stands in the midst of a small-scale bloodbath, several demons laying about in ungraceful heaps and contorted shapes. The white and silver visage of the youko himself is all but drenched in blood, and the smell to any demon's nose will be able to tell more than a safe amount is his own. The youko wavers as he surveys the fallen demons, before collapsing to his knees.

Silver-white hair streaks into black, and gold eyes fade to a hazy violet-grey. Kurama slumps forward, barely catching himself on his hands. He coughs, blood thick as it trails down his chin. His white and pink uniform is in worse condition than youko's had been, suggesting the youko had been in a dire situation indeed when he had changed.

[The call had come in the middle of the night and Spencer had woken Norman just enough to say good bye before he'd grabbed his go-bag and let himself quietly out of the apartment. The first week had passed as their time apart always did: A few scattered texts, a phone call when he was forced to go back to the hotel for sleep. He was always slightly distant when he was on a case, so it wasn't too strange when the calls stopped.
