Life is hard. You can go through rough patches and over bumps, and sometimes it feels as though you're definitely worse for the wear, both physically and mentally. It's nice to have someone - someone more than a friend - there for you in those times...even if you don't think you want them or deserve them. But they're here, and they'll take care of you.

How to Play:
* This is a shipping meme for more tender, soft moments, but a little more serious than your usual "fluff." It's for people who've been broken down by their experience and those who wish to heal them.
* Comment with your character/your preferences. You may also want to specify whether your character will be the one "cared for" or the one doing the "caring" + pertinent information, but for most effectiveness, it's best to be open to both.
* Comment around.

1. Know You've Been Hurt By Someone Else: There are scars left on their heart from a past relationship or fling, and you have to let them know you're not the same way.

18. We All Have Our Nights: Your lover, because of their past experience, is having a complete breakdown. You have to bring them back from the edge.

Audrey has never been much of a heavy sleeper - but lately, her sleep patterns, or lack thereof, have really taken a toll on her. It's because Phil can't sleep. He tosses, and turns, and she knows that he tries not to disturb her, but it's hard to find her own rest when all she can do is worry about him. She doesn't blame him, of course, with everything that he's been through, it's actually perfectly understandable.

She just ... feels helpless because there's nothing she can really do to take care of him, no matter how desperately she just wanted to ... make things better.

Here they are, 4AM, and by all rights, they should be sleeping soundly, arms and legs tangled so tightly that they couldn't tell where one ended and the other began, but he's tossing and turning and doing it again, and she's slowly sitting up, rubbing tired eyes awake.

"Phil - ?"

Phil had hoped staying with Audrey would ease the compulsion to create, that he could forget the symbols for a little while, but if anything the compulsion had gotten worse. He ate, drank, showered and even slept thinking of those damm things.

Slept is a strong word to use actually. He hadn't had a good nights sleep in months, and he knew he was dragging yet another girlfriend down into the rabbit hole with him. He woke the second she said his name. "I'm sorry," he sighed his voice rough with the lack of rest, "I hate that I keep waking you up."

And Audrey ... worries. Even though she doesn't know everything that's going on, even though he keeps most things to himself just so that she doesn't worry, Audrey isn't a stupid woman. She can see that something is wrong, and if there was anything that she could do that would at the very least distract him, she would.

He's worried about her more than he is himself, and it just ... breaks her heart. She sighs softly, and she rests a hand at his arm, hoping that it's encouraging and comforting as he needs. "I'm alright. How are you?"

Another sigh. "I'm...tired," he admits, "I don't remember the last time I slept well, I'm barely eating and my brain won't shut off. I thought sleeping here would make it better but I'm just making things bad for you on top of everything else." He rests a hand on top of hers and tries to smile.

"I can sleep on the couch if you want....you need a good nights rest as much as I do."

Celegorm's wrath sparked easy and ran hotter than the fires of Mount Doom. It scorched all about him black, it burned all to cinders and ashes, razing the lands and leaving nothing behind. Legolas knew from first hand experience just what sort of ruin it could leave in its wake. Old scars still burned anew with memories that would always remain as vivid as those of the day before, seeing the fine, yet sharp features contort into something he could barely recognise. Like the emotion itself personified, he seemed at the time, and though it was not directed at him, Legolas had to fight the urge to flee, to hide somewhere and as far away as only possible.

A threat brought to their very doorstep, before even all of the settlement - the fortress - has been finished. Someone got cocky, someone grew overconfident and irresponsible and they all paid the price of injures, though no losses in people, but a loss in security. A loss that hit deep and hard and even Legolas grew discontent, disappointed in those who have sworn to be his loyal subjects. To bring war to their doorstep is unacceptable, it has always been. The one rule that he enforced with a great passion, and that one rule was broken. Yet Legolas puts aside all that for the moment, ordering the guards to take the two captains away and keep them under a careful watch until he comes to deal with them as he sees fit. In this, he's certain, he's regal and fearless.

With the corner of his eye he watched Celegorm and quickly, when the guards left with the unruly children, Legolas steps in Celegorm's way. Tense beyond reason, with his shoulders squared and head held high to look him in the eye, though even then he needs to tip his head back considerably. "Stay," he says with firmness that in this mere blink of an eye moment grows so very strained, all of him and his body taunt like a string on a bow with instinctive fear that claws at his insides.

He has borne the burn of this once already, and though the hands he raised to stop Celegorm trembled, should it become necessary, he would bear it once more. One thing is for certain, however, Celegorm cannot leave this room like this.

Celegorm's breath hissed out of his clenched teeth, his lips peeling briefly back from the white glint of them, bared like a wolf's. His shoulders were bowed, hands curled into fists at his sides...

"And let them go!?" he demanded, eyes flashing with rage, "When they have brought this upon us!? Legolas, turn not your eyes aside from what you know! That they should be punished, their foolish pride broken as they have broken our last true hope of safety and secrecy!"

But he stays, as he is bid.... and with a snarl, turned from his lover, instead pacing across the stone floor like a caged beast.

His relief is a small thing, when Celegorm does not try to fight through him, that he listens if begrudging in both motion and word. Legolas breathes just a little easier, yet they're hardly out of the woods just yet.

"And punishment will come to them," quietly now, trying to keep the resolve from fizzling out, "but not like this. Anger gives a terrible counsel and right now we need wisdom and not rash decisions."

He is as much devastated at the broken dreams, though he tries to hold it together with great desperation. Already considering all the ways, all the routes, all the possibilities, yet focusing is difficult when before him like Celegorm looks a predator ready to pounce, ready to lash out at the slightest provocation. His fingers twitch at his sides, yet he remains frozen in place, as if rooted into the very floor beneath his feet.

So instead of moving, he holds out a hand, "Come to me, I need you calm."

Celegorm growls, hands uncurling from their fists, gesturing in the air before him as he speaks. Animated. "And what if your temperance is thought weakness, Legolas? For every moment you delay swift and sure judgement, others take note. For every inch of lenience, others will come forward taking thrice that!"

By now, it may have become apparent to Legolas that even the worst of Celegorm's rages all had root in fear. Fear of losing something, fear of greater harm returned to him.

And even Celegorm is not immune to such displays as Legolas provides him now, and he hesitates, looking from his lover to the hand and back again. With a sigh, he reaches out, bridging the distance, and sets his hand into that of the other elf. Squeezes it tightly.

Quiet, now, he uses the grip to gently tug Legolas towards him.

"Those who think it weakness will crash and shatter against the strength of my resolve, like waves crashing against a rocky shore," urged forward, Legolas steps closer with ease now, dislodged from his moment of deadly stillness. Fingers of their hands threaded together, he returns the squeeze. "Those who will think to abuse my kindness will not go far at all, do not think me so weak or foolish."

Though he may know the source of it, that this rage takes root not in hatred but in fear, standing so close when Celegorm's temper still runs so hot unnerves him all the same. Though he knows, he trusts Celegorm never to bring harm to him again, there is still a slight tremble in his voice and posture both.

"I need you by my side, so that I may hold steadfast as is necessary to achieve much of anything," he reaches up with his free hand, touching a warm cheek, thumb rubbing along the sharp line of a cheekbone with great tenderness. "And I cannot have you running off in such rage, where clear thought is clouded by fear that I too share. Do not doubt me, out of all of them... not you."

It is a visible effort to keep his lips down around his teeth, to bend towards Legolas' calm, fragile though it is. With a puff of a frustrated sigh, he curves forward, pressing his face into Legolas' hand.

"I know you aren't weak, my heart," he admits at last, a little churlishly. "I just... It makes me so furious, that they dared, when you have done so much to pull them up, to safeguard them, to give them all they have and at such great cost! And worse, that others of their fellow may take it a grave sign, a path to follow, and that our enemies shall find us weak enough to cut their teeth upon..."
