The Road Trip Meme
You know who likes a good road trip? Everyone likes a good road trip! So aren't you glad you get to go on one now? Of course you are.
How it works:
1. Post with your character, with their name | canon and any preferences in the subject line
2. Someone else tags you. Congratulations, those characters are now on a road trip together! To where? Who cares! We only care about the journey here
3. Go to the RNG and get a random number between 1 and 15 to pick your scenario, or combine numbers or make up your own
4. ???
5. ROAD TRIP STYLED PROFIT!
Scenarios:
1: LOST You should have made a left toin at Albuquerque, or maybe you've been holding the map upside down this whole time! Whatever it is, you're hopelessly LOST. Will you make it back on the path to your destination, or will you find a new adventure?
2: Tourist Trap Okay, you're all for seeing the sights, but World's Biggest Doorstopper? World's Smallest Chicken? World's Noisiest Whistle? Do we really have to stop here, too?
3: Car Trouble Maybe you got a flat tire. Maybe your engine's stalled. Or maybe you just overestimated how far you could get on a half tank of gas. Either way, you're broke down on the side of the road and the nearest station is miles away; better get behind it and push!
4: Bad Weather Driving in the rain? No problem. Driving in torrential downpours or a blinding blizzard? Big problem! Better find a way to get out of the storm fast!
5: When Ya Gotta Go... Didn't I tell you to go before we left? Well, even if you did, maybe you shouldn't have had that 44 ounce Super Big Gulp, because there's not another rest stop for miles. Maybe you can find an empty bottle in the back...
6: Road Delays Stuck in traffic? Stuck at road construction? Stuck in a funeral procession? Bridge out? Whatever it is, it's blocking your way. Do you wait patiently, or maybe find your own way around it.
7: Smokey and the Bandit Oh no, those blue lights behind you can't be good. Maybe you should just pull over and accept your speeding ticket like a decent citizen. Or, maybe you should floor it. High speed chase anyone?
8: Night Driving You decided to drive through the night, and now it's one AM and you're all out of coffee. Wake up a friend and make them help you stay awake; falling asleep at the wheel is dangerous!
9: Ghost Town Boy, this town sure is quiet. And... kind of creepy. Oh God, did something in those corn rows just move? I hear banjo music; DRIVE FASTER!
10: Roadkill Good going, you hit an animal. I sure hope you feel good about yourself. Now you've killed the poor- oh, it's still moving? What do we do now!?
10a: The I Know What You Did Last Summer Edition That animal you hit was a little more human than you care for... oh dear...
11: ROAD RAGE That jerk cut me off! How dare he!? I'll make him pay! Or maybe you cut off a less-than-friendly driver of your own, and now he's after you...
12: Carjacked Awww, that was a good lunch. ...Wait, I know this is where we parked... Dude, where's the car!?!?
13: Hitchhiking Who said you needed a car for a road trip? Stick that thumb out and catch a ride where you're going. Maybe you and a buddy are chillin' with the pigs in a trailer, or maybe that nice looking hitchhiker you picked up down the road is not as nice as you thought...
14: Fantasy Car Roads? Where you're going, you don't need roads. If you're in Doc's DeLorean, anyway. Or maybe the car is really Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Or a spy car. Or the Batmobile. Or a Transformer! Whatever it is, this car is NOT normal.
15: Are We There Yet? Roller's choice! Pick your favorite option, or two, or three, or just roll with whatever feels right!

Oh, Eliot noticed alright. Not long after sitting down and smiling back at the owner, he already picked up how Loki was practically glaring at the jar of sugar, place was old fashioned enough to not use sugar packs, and the wolf was half afraid the glass container might explode.]
Can I get you two something to start off with?
[Giving Loki a subtle glance, Eliot smiled back at Marie and said quickly,] A Coke and a Sprite to start off with, thanks. We'll be ready to order in a while.
[Taking down their orders, the sweet elderly woman smiled gently with a nod. She didn't even seem to notice Loki's sullen mood, or if she did, it certainly didn't dampen her own.] Alright, sweetie, you just call for me or Julia whenever you're ready.
[Eliot gave her another charming smile, another sweet boy,] Yes, ma'am, as soon as we're ready. [And watched as she left their booth to prepare for their drink.
Only then did Eliot turn a slightly concerned frown towards Loki.] What's the matter with you, man?
no subject
Loki says nothing as their drinks are ordered, paying little attention to their waitress. "Sweetie," she calls him. Isn't that just darling.
The sugar in the jar rattles just slightly moments before Eliot turns his attention back to him. But it stops before anything explodes, thankfully. His chin rests in his hand as he avoids the other's gaze. ]
Absolutely nothing, my friend.
[ Tch. ]
Perhaps I was expecting a little more from a place you hold in such high regard, but really, I should know better than to get my hopes up.
[ No sign of these "prettiest ladies to serve you" yet. ]
no subject
Can't find another roadside diner with service like that. And...
[It should be a known rule to never think about people during the day, especially when the one doing the thinking is a god. Fate has a weird sense of humor that way, such that a long legged blonde started walking up behind him soon after the thought was out.
Two tall glasses of soda were placed on the table by the brightly smiling waitress. She couldn't be more than her late twenties, if even that, and was sporting a smile bright enough to contest the sun in its glory.]
A Coke for...
[Eliot helpfully raised up two fingers, smiling his own charming smile the whole while.] Oh, that's here.
[Blushing slightly at Eliot's expression, she giggled and pushed the cola over to Eliot while moving the clear soda in front of Loki.] And a Sprite for you. [She barely gave the god more than a glance before she turned her shy smile back on the beaming Eliot.]
Why, thank you. [Taking a sip of his drink, Eliot grinned a bit and added flirtatiously,] So sweet.
no subject
[ It figures. The moment he thinks of it, there one walks right up to them. She's nothing special, Loki notes with a cursory glance. A young woman, clearly trying too hard. But ordinary. Common.
And yet, Eliot seems all the more entranced by her. By an ordinary, common, not at all special mortal woman.
He wonders idly if he's just been deluding himself all this time. It would make sense. And as the two converse, Loki mulls it all over in his mind. It really was nothing more than just ... what it was, then. He should not have been so foolish.
Still, he will blame others before blaming himself. And this woman, however kind she may be, isn't getting away so easily.
He's polite enough in accepting his drink. But just as she turns back to Eliot (and at that moment there were a great number of obscene expletives running through his mind,) his hand under the table turns at the wrist just so, subtle and hidden from any suspicious gazes. And in an instant, the heel of the girl's very high shoes snaps and breaks off.
Loki just raises an eyebrow in feigned surprise as she tumbles. Oh, dear. What a clumsy girl. ]
no subject
Just as the girl started to lose her balance, Eliot was out of his seat, lightning fast werewolf reflexes catching the waitress in his arms before she could go down. He caught her and steadied her, and for a moment, they were practically pressed body to body until he stepped back gallantly.]
Oops. [He said with a disarming smile that told her, 'it's fine'.] A little stumble there. You alright? [He held onto her until she regained her footing and even then, kept a steady hand on her elbow. The waitress, of course, was looking strawberry red.]
What? Oh..y..yes! I'm fine... my heel just snapped and... oh, I'm okay.
[He smile genuinely and went back to his seat.] Better be careful, darlin'. Don't wanna twist your ankle.
[The waitress smiled back in embarrassment and excused herself, hurrying out of there as quickly as she could without twisting any limbs. Eliot, meanwhile, watched until she disappeared around the corner before looking back to his sullen partner. He still didn't suspect anything yet.]
Best rattlesnake steak there is. You should try it, man.
no subject
Loki tries his very best not to snarl at her when Eliot just has to fetch her like the hungry dog he is. And plenty of other insulting and degrading thoughts pass his mind, his temper brewing under the surface as the other two flirt right in front of him. As if he wasn't even there.
As if he shouldn't be there, or had no need to be.
As if he wasn't important, or even considered--
The waitress gets away, Eliot says something or other, and Loki's brow twitches for an instant before every single sugar jar on every table suddenly shatters, glass and sugar grains spraying everywhere.
He thought about the other shakers, but Loki wasn't about to storm out in a pepper cloud and risk sneezing himself into a coma. ]
I'm not hungry.
no subject
What the fuck, Loki!? [The werewolf hissed with borderline anger as he glared across the table at the sulking god.]
What. The. Hell. Are you doin'!?
[Out of deference to the diner and other already startled customers, Eliot kept his voice lowered but the snarl in the werewolf's tone couldn't be ignored. Even with the other customers making noise in the background, thankfully it didn't appear anyone got hurt, Eliot's menacing, sandy growls were easily heard.]
That's goin' too far! If you don't wanna eat, then just say so!
no subject
But for a moment, Loki almost wishes he did. Because Eliot can't even see why he'd done it, doesn't see the line he'd crossed. Because dear Eliot is more concerned with everyone else - like the oh so plain waitress in the broken shoes - than he is with ...
The trickster frowns inwardly at himself. He should have known. ]
Fine.
[ He slides out from the booth and stands, refusing to look at the wolf as he turns and begins to head for the door, though not without offering one last call back to his ... "friend." ]
You didn't have to lie to me.
[ Yes, yes, ironic from the god of Lies, he knows. But this was different. ]
no subject
Hoping the trickster hadn't pulled a vanishing trick on him already amidst the chaos, Eliot ran out after him.
Thankfully, he spotted the god just a few steps outside of the establishment looking very much like a petulant child.]
What was that about!?
[Eliot stormed up to him, growling and crossing his arms defensively.] What do you mean I lied?
[If anyone else accused Eliot Spencer of the same thing, they would be lucky to still be awake in the aftermath, but here he was, demanding an explanation out of Loki with words rather than his fist. In fact, genuine confusion underlay the glares he shot the god's way.]
no subject
He does expect Eliot to follow, which is somewhat satisfying. If Eliot chose to stay behind with his waitress, it would earn him all the trickster's wratch. But he follows him outside, and there's at least something relieving in that.
Loki doesn't stop, however. He is still furious. He doesn't even bother with looking back, just continues on his way, avoiding the other's gaze and gestures. ]
I meant exactly what I said. [ Despite his anger, his tone is surprisingly calm and level. ] You lied to me, Eliot, and I don't appreciate the irony in that fact in the slightest.
I'm not all surprised that you don't remember. [ But then he finally stops, hands curling into fists, and eyes downcast. ] Do you honestly not recall what you said to me? That night we were both awake, and I told you about my children?
no subject
What did he say to Loki that had anything to do with this?]
I...
[Eliot shook his head, not because he didn't remember, but because he wasn't sure what he was supposed to remember.
Anger and irritation deflated, Eliot closed in the rest of the distance and tried to put his hands on Loki's shoulders. The god was upset, that much was clear, but Eliot honestly couldn't figure out why.]
I don't understand, man. I remember everythin' we said— [He stalled, not sure where to go with that and tried again.] What we—... I mean everythin' I said that night. Still do.
Whatever it is you think I'm lyin' about... I ain't.
no subject
He takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself, but unfortunately, Eliot just has to speak. And it's not the words the god wanted to hear.
Frustrated, Loki pushes Eliot's hands from him, taking a step backwards. Control over his temper was a struggle, but he tries his best only because there's no point in blowing things up in the middle of nowhere. ]
I asked you if you liked her better. [ Bitterness seeps into his tone as he speaks, accusingly. ] You called me your exception.
And then- then you introduce me as your friend, you practically drool over a simple, ordinary woman and you can't even see why I'm upset--
[ Then he does look up finally, his expression torn somewhere between furious and possible desperation. ]
I asked if you liked her better! You lied to me- I can be a woman for you if that's what you want, but don't pretend I don't exist just because something in a short skirt speaks to you.
But if you'd rather I don't, then don't lie to me and delude me!
no subject
Eyes widening and blindsided by this, Eliot let the god step away without following.]
Loki... I didn't... That is... I don't.
[He was always so bad with reassuring people that he found himself struggling to come up with the right words to make this better. So he shook his head and tried again, hoping the impatient god would be patient for once and wait for him to come up with the words he wanted to say.]
I don't like her better. Like I said... I like women, that's who I am, but I—... You're you!
[Frustrated at his own inability to express himself, Eliot scowled and stepped forward again, embracing Loki into his arms regardless of what the god did.]
I don't want you to change. Those others... That's all just how I am. But you're the one I care about, alright? Not those others, not somethin' in a short skirt. You.
[Eliot slowly released the god from his embrace so Loki could move away if he still wanted. It was Eliot's turn to look down.]
I didn't know how you want to be associated with me. Figured 'friend' was already pushin' it... with you bein' a god and all.
no subject
He doesn't move an inch when those arms close around him, holding him close. He knows Eliot is trying, but--
Eliot says it twice. "That's just how I am."
Loki flinches in the other's grasp and doesn't move even as he's let go. The pavement beneath them does crackle a bit when a wave of anger rushes through him and uses his magic as an outlet, but he controls it before anything worse happens. ]
You think--
You think friend is pushing it, after the way I hold you at night not only to calm your beast, after the way I care for you and fix you when you are hurt, after everything we've done?
And despite all of that, you think that makes it okay for you to start panting at a woman in a rundown trash dump of a diner? What the hell am I to you?
no subject
He managed to not wince when the pavement cracked beneath his feet although his wolf was howling for him to cower back. He was not an animal, and Loki didn't need the animal right now.
The human, on the other hand, felt shamed when Loki laid it all out for him like that. Eliot had always thought he was protecting himself by holding back from making attachments, but he did make them, and he was wrong to not admit to them. By thinking he was letting the god choose, he only ended up hurting someone who he actually did care deeply for.
Again Eliot tried to reach out for Loki... if he was allowed.]
My alpha... my everything. [He met the god's eyes squarely when he said those words. If eyes were truly windows to the soul, he hoped Loki could see through them to read how much the trickster truly meant to him.]
You're... [Eliot shook his head, his mane of hair falling loose in long strands to frame his emotion filled expression.] Those others... I smile at them, yeah... joke, chat... But... They don't mean a thing, alright? Only you do.
Loki... believe me when I say you mean everythin'.
You want me to say 'boyfriend'? [Although admittedly, the word rolled off his tongue strangely and it was reflected in his features, but he was willing to compromise if that was what Loki wanted.] Alright, I'll say boyfriend.
no subject
Everything. He's everything to Eliot, is he? Loki scoffs, but he is frozen in place, because no matter how badly he wants to hit him or just run away, the hand reaching out for him is the same hand he's so fond of. He doesn't move, save for the first flinch away from Eliot's hand when he advances. ]
"Boyfriend?"
[ He's unaware of the term, but it sounds like a significant step down from lover.
Another flinch, eyes focused on the ground in case he wants to tear something apart. ]
I don't understand. You claim I am your everything, and yet you cast me behind the mask of being a mere friend so you can ogle and pant at any woman you please?
Why do you still lie to me? Are you ashamed, because I am a- a monster, or even just a man? Or is this merely a common practice in Midgard?
no subject
Thankfully, he was saved from the need to describe that by the more pressing matter of explaining his own behavior as a healthy male.]
I don't pant at women. I just treat'em like how I've done all my life. I'm.... a guy. It doesn't mean anythin'.
[Seeing those might not be the words Loki wanted to hear, he struggled to find better ones.]
I'm not tryin' to lie, alright? I didn't know what you wanted me to address you as. It has nothin' to do with what you are and who you are.
[Sighing, he held Loki closer to him, hugging the taller man now and carding his hand through Loki's hair in what he hoped was still considered a reassuring manner.]
You're not a monster, Loki. And it has nothin' to with your gender either. I'm just bad with words, and expressin' myself through them...
[He trailed off again, proving his lack of eloquence in that method of communication once more by his complete lack of idea knowing how to continue. Instead, he tried to catch Loki's eyes to try to convey the emotions behind his words.]
I've never had a successful relationship before... I'm sorry if I'm handlin' this badly.
no subject
But just because he understood it didn't mean it was okay, right? Fandral was the way he was because he was perpetually single. Odin had never once looked at another woman. When Thor fancied a woman, he would beat senseless any man who tried to steal the woman from him. Eliot called him a friend and eyed up another woman right in front of him.
Perhaps he was simply not meant for this age. Midgard was so very different from the world he had known for centuries.
He is so out of place here. Will he ever feel at home?
His anger at Eliot ebbs as he's drawn closer. He's reluctant to, but he can't help lowering his head to his wolf's shoulder, exhaling a shaky breath. Eliot doesn't sound like he's trying to lie to him, just ... like he says, bad with words. Very bad with them.
One hand lifts, hesitant ... but then it settles at his side once more. ]
I don't want you to do it again.
Whatever it is you wish to call me around others, I don't care, just- ... I will not sit idly by and watch you charm another in front of me. I wanted to kill her.
no subject
I'm sorry. [He says so softly, the words whispered into Loki's hair where the god had tucked his head against his shoulder.] I hadn't realized—... I didn't know.
[Eliot can't promise he won't smile at other women though, or that he won't be nice to other females, but he can try to not flirt with any of them around Loki. His hand continued its soft stroking motion in Loki's hair as he held the trickster close to him.]
I'll try. It's just the way I am and... I'll try.
[To be honest, Eliot wasn't happy about needing to curb his instincts, and he wanted to growl, but his inner wolf didn't want to displease his alpha. Frankly, Loki meant more to him than those faceless females out there.]
You knew nothin' was gonna happen between me and her, right?
no subject
Loki supposes that is the best he will get from him. It isn't perfect, but if it were, Eliot never would have given the woman a second glance in the first place. If he will at least try, then Loki could accept that. He mattered enough for the other to try. Hell, he mattered enough for Eliot to make the effort to come after him in the first place.
The gentle stroking of his hair helps to ease the tension away. He can sense the same tension in his wolf, but that, he doesn't know how to fix. He just wanted to be the only one Eliot focused his affections on.
Was that too much to ask for, he wonders?
He lifts his head then, but he stays close, to keep Eliot's hand in his hair. ]
I've lived my entire life watching everyone choose others over me. [ He turns his head slightly, nuzzling into his wolf's hair. ] Forgive me, but I cannot help this feeling that one day, you will do the very same.
no subject
I won't...
[It wasn't an unreasonable request, it was just that Eliot was used to being alone and acting alone. Still, now knowing how he was hurting Loki, he could make an effort to curb his instincts. Because he wasn't alone anymore.]
Like you said... who else can calm my beast? I don't want anyone else, Loki. If I leave ya one day, it ain't gonna be cause I choose it.
[He stroked the god's hair a few more times, then turned and nuzzled his nose into it to soak up the trickster's natural scent.]
How 'bout we get back on the road, and I can continue takin' ya to see the country where I was born, yeah? [Because that was where Eliot was planning on taking his lover before they got interrupted, back to his roots and near family, a place where he never intended to show anyone else.] And we can stop by some drive by place where I can pick up lunch without gettin' out of the truck. [And because after all that, the wolf didn't get to eat.]
no subject
That would be frightening if he wasn't still on the edge of murderous.
As bad with words as he may be, Eliot did know the right ones to help ease the anger and insecurity. Not all of it, of course, because his words still leave the potential of another being choosing to steal him away. But Loki will argue semantics another time.
For now, the truck did seem like the better destination. Getting back to their journey together and getting away from the women in plain skirts trying to take away his wolf was a much better idea. So Loki nods, as his hand finally does travel towards Eliot's, gently grasping his fingers. ]
We can still get out of the truck. We simply have to find a place with terribly ugly servers.
no subject
Right. [Humoring the god, Eliot smiled and gave their glasped fingers a reassuring squeeze. Using that link between them, he lead the way back to his truck, where after both of them climbed on, he took back onto the road once more.
Guess that was one more restaurant Eliot was blacklisted from. Ah wells. He can grill his own steaks.]
