It probably is a little bit unconventional, the detective and the reporter, but if this was to shift into something beyond friendship, little would change professional. He still probably wouldn't be tasked with writing any stories that she might be involved with, and if he was, he'd have to use the conflict of interest card. Yeah, he wants the big stories, but not at her expense. Not at the expense of this fledgling ... whatever was going on between them.
She moves in closer than ever, and he huffs out a nervous little laugh, happy with the contact, happy with the flirting, surprised by the innuendo, but not at all in a bad way.]
So, then - [He begins, disappointed in the way that she pulls away, even though she's still nearly chest to chest with him. It's those eyes, and the way that she watches him that affect him the most. And the way she bites her lip only just makes him want to kiss her all the more.] - Invite me up. Officially.
[Because if she does, she can have him any way she wants him. He only hopes he can say as much with actions instead of words, because there's no way he can resist her in the moment, and he breaches the little bit of distance between them, capturing her lips in a confident kiss, one that isn't nervous, one that is as full of intent and meaning as he can make it.]

The taste of him lingering on her lips holds her over for the time being, long enough for her hand to slide down his sleeve where she wraps her fingers around his hand. ]
Come upstairs with me. [ She places a quick, but tender kiss on his lips. ] Please. [ And another. ] Very officially, I want this to happen.
[ Let no one call her subtle, because she's anything but when she's got her mind set, but this isn't just her will being done. And the last thing she wants to do is miss an opportunity, since Miles is throwing out all the proper signals. She has to seize the day; it's that part of her that really makes her so successful.
Purposefully, she gives his arm a tug and begins backing toward the door, all smile and giddiness. How did she get so lucky to meet a guy that doesn't make her feel miserable or second-best? They're closer to even footing, really, because she doesn't have to overcompensate or over-complicate, and neither does he. ]

Panting, certainly. Knocked off of his axis, definitely. Indescribably happy? Oh, without a shadow of a doubt.
He manages to hum softly in response to the path her hand takes until their fingers are tangled with each other's, and then he offers probably the goofiest smile he's given anyone, ever. It'd probably be best never to mention that again, if only for the sake of his ego.]
Anything - [He replies, happy to return the kiss, and a quick brush of his nose against hers.] Yes, of course. [Another easily returned kiss.] Off the record, but I very much want this to happen, too.
[This is not a time for subtlety, and he's appreciative of her honesty and candor. Teasing is one thing - and he likes the way that she teases, but in a moment like this, clear signs were definitely appreciated. What could be clearer than the way she pulls at his arm, urging him to follow along?
There is no hesitation as he does just that, mentally reminding himself to pinch himself once they're inside, because things like this? They just don't happen to him. No - he gets declarations of it's the job or me, he doesn't get someone so understanding - someone so intelligent, and shrewd, and yet so perfectly matched with him in terms of ... making stupid jokes, and ... sometimes saying the wrong thing, and -
Oh, he's enamored, to say the absolute least.]
Over a month later... Sorry!
Ascending the stairs in silence, she finds herself pleased that no one seems to be out in the halls. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but it's much easier if they can avoid awkward passing smiles with strangers who can probably guess more than they should be able to when observing the pair's flushed skin and coy expressions.
At the door, Blake's forced to drop his hand as she digs for her keys in the low light of the hallway. It's not the nicest apartment or the best neighborhood but she never feels unsafe, not even on late nights when she's heading out to begin a late shift.
She pushes the door open and then steps back to allow Miles to go first. ]
Should I open a bottle of wine?
[ It would probably mostly go to waste, but she feels like it might be worth it to have a couple minutes where she's got something else to think of beyond letting him completely ravish her in every way he can think to. And besides, it's the only alcohol in the house (and probably reserved for cooking).
Once inside, her keys are deposited in a tray by the door. The apartment's very sparsely decorated and lacking many of the homey touches that might suggest she spends some time there. ]
Oh, no need, after all, look how long it's taken me to get to this, I am the worst.
With each step taken, his heart pounds all the harder in his chest, and he's very grateful that no one is around to see his expression, because he's absolutely certain that he probably appears to be ... an oversize, overexcited ... puppy.
Luckily, they make it to Robin's door relatively unscathed, and although Miles is more than a bit reluctant to let go of her hand, he knows that he must if they want to make it inside, to privacy, to ... being able to continue exploring this path that they've set out upon, and so he does, and he waits, and he huffs out the hint of a chuckle once the door is open and she's urging him inside.
He takes only a cursory glance around, stuffing his hands in his pockets, waiting.]
Ah ... no, thank you. I can't ... recovering alcoholic and all, so ...
[Not that she could have known, it's not as though he talks about it often, or at all. Still, he's not offended, he just ... wonders what his next step should be. It's not often that women invite him home with them, after all, especially not women that he has these sorts of fond feelings for.]
