It can go from anything to changing a behavior to changing your whole identity, and all of it can be difficult. You want them to be your camouflage, maybe even getting others to believe you've changed. Faked Turned Real: Both of you were using each other for cover, but now...you're not sure. Brainwashing: One-Sided: You love them and want them to believe that things have always been like this. Can you be blamed for going about it this way? After Amy had died in an accident (a drunk driver of all things), Rory had effectively fled England and anything that supernatural. He was just a perfectly normal guy who'd lost his wife in a traffic accident and had now fallen for a perfectly normal girl, or at least she was normal as far as he knew.

Of course if he'd actually been looking for normal rather than simply telling himself he was, he'd not have gone anywhere near Jo. And thirty seconds of thought would have told him that the wounds of hers he'd patched up were not normal and hadn't happened the way she'd said. He didn't lie about many things - but had always lied to himself about what he wanted out of life (2.4 children and a white picket fence) and the only one who knew him that he fooled was himself.

And he was definitely human and not under any spell. Jo had checked on the first date. And again a couple of times - the only thing ever turned up was a residue of time magic. But there were a couple of things about the nurse that didn't add up, especially with his eyes that were far older than they had any right to be, or the way he sometimes spoke in Latin in his sleep.

Rory smiled at Jo as she walked in. "Hi, honey. How was your evening?" Most people thought he was odd with the shifts he chose to work. But they meant that he got home from the hospital about half an hour before she got home after kicking everyone out of the bar. He was sitting in the corner, a bottle of scotch open and the pile of cards on the table (and the three of clubs on the floor that he hadn't yet spotted) had clearly been a house of cards. Both clues that it had been a very bad shift; he didn't drink on his own unless someone had died, and focussing on something like a house of cards meant he didn't focus on anything else.

(OOC: I've left things as open as I can for her half of the relationship - it's somewhere in the 22-25 range or 9 or 12, with Rory having played Florence Nightingale when she returned being entirely possible).
