I don't really know much 'bout the houses... One's supposed to be scary though. [He shrugs.] Maybe it was the blue one? [Glancing over at that table... they look kinda weird, he guesses.]

Scary...? Oh, good luck getting placed together then! Maybe if you ask the hat nicely, he'll let you stay with each other.

Blue is Ravenclaw, right?

I hope so! Asking a hat is better than fighting a troll--someone told me that's what he had to do on the train.

I think so? The others are like... Bubblepuff, Ginslither, and... uh I can't remember the other one.

[Eyes widen when he mentions trolls, now THAT sounds scary, but she can't help but burst out laughing at his names] I don't think those are the right names at all!

[He screws up his face.] That's what Yuu said they were!

Yuu sounds silly.

He is... But shhh! [Peeks over at Kanda] Don't tell him, he gets all huffy about it.

Oooh, okay. [Nods, zipping her lips and whispering] Your secrets safe with me.

[Grins at her, sticking out one of his hands.] Oh! My name's Alma! What's yours?

I'm Rapunzel! Pleased to meet you, Alma. [Hand shaking]

[Laughing.] After sorting do you wanna hang out or something? Then you'll have friends here too! Do you think we'd get sorted the same?

That sounds like fun! If we get sorted together we can, otherwise I think we'll have to wait until later, since we have to follow our prefects. We could meet up and explore the castle.

I hope we get sorted together! Then we can have classes together too.

I heard the stairs move around, so there must be a lot to explore!

Do they really move? Gosh, it must be really easy to get lost... But really cool to slide down the banisters here.

What classes do you think we'll have? It'd be great if we could work together, I hope I'm not too bad at any of the subjects...

Oh jeeze, you're right! Sliding down the banisters would be so much fun.

Well, I was reading one of the books we had to buy... the Trans.. figura-tion one. [Saying it slowly.] I can't wait to start that class--we get to turn stuff into other stuff!

Oh, oh! You know what we should do, we should start out on two opposite staircases and race to the bottom.

I'm looking forward to herbology, my mother and I do lots of gardening together, so I shouldn't be too bad at that. And potions, I was reading my potions book and it looks like it'll be good, if you don't accidentally blow anything up. Ooh, and charms!

A race! Haha, maybe we can get Yuu to be our ref.

Herbology--oh that sounds cool! I used to garden some with Yuu... I wasn't really good at it, but Yuu was. All the classes sound like so much fun, really. So different than the Muggle schools.

I've never been to school before, I... My mother taught me from home, so, it's all new to me. Maybe I can garden with you and Yuu some time, if you want to.

[Glancing at the Sorting hat, listening to the names] Oh... Oh they're getting close to me.

Me and Yuu went to a Muggle school--but I never heard about wizard stuff before my letter.

And totally, you've gotta garden with us. Yuu can be kind of a jerk, but he can be nice... sometimes. Mostly to plants.

[Perks up too.] Ah, Yuu is before me too.. Good luck!

I knew about wizard stuff! I can help you learn about wizard stuff and you can help me learn about school stuff, it'll be great. Were you Muggle-born then? And... Haha, thanks. [Two more names... Starts fidgeting with her hair]

We'll both help each other out! Ah, well, maybe? I dunno my parents, so I don't know if they were Muggles or not.

[He pats her shoulder.] I bet you'll get an awesome house.

Ah- [Not knowing your parents, that sounds so sad. Smiles gratefully at him] Thanks, Alma. It's silly, I've been looking forward to this ever since I got the letter, but now I'm here... But, you're right, I bet we'll both get a great house! We're all here to learn, so even if you didn't grow up with magic, I bet you'll do fine. [Even if her mother did say about muggles and people raised by them... But Alma seems so nice!]

[He's got Yuu. He's fine. That's his opinion anyway.]

It's kinda scary and big! But I know we'll be just fine! You didn't grow up with school, but it's not hard to figure out. We'll help each other and everything'll be fine! [Optimistic orphan boy go!]

Thank you! You too, for your turn. [Rushing up to the hat, oh gosh oh gosh...

It takes a while, she's kind and loyal and not afraid of hard work like a Hufflepuff, but she's also brave, and cunning, and curious, such a thirst for knowledge there... And devious, oh my, lying and tricking her mother, blackmailing strangers to get what she wants, even if she wants to be honest she'll still do whatever it takes to live her dreams, being raised with a very Pureblood Magic is Might mentality even if she isn't so sure on it, oh yes, better be... SLYTHERIN.

Rapunzel jumps up, thanking the hat before running over to the Slytherin table, giving a quick wave to Alma as she sits down.]

[Alma waves back, fidgeting the whole time as Kanda gets sorted to Gryffindor... Oh dear, now his two friends are in different houses!

Then it's his turn and Alma is a ball of nerves. The hat is big on him and covers most of his head--however the hat doesn't listen to his wishes at all because it's almost immediate that it calls out HUFFLEPUFF.

He gets a bit teary-eyed but puts on a strong face and marches over to the table.... then runs back to put the hat back on the seat, and returns to his new tablemates very redfaced.

He tries to wave down Kanda, but gives up trying to get a response and waves at Rapunzel instead.]

[Oh no, poor Alma. She can't help but chuckle when he runs off with the hat, but smiles and waves back at him when he catches her attention. She glances at Kanda then back at Alma, giving him a sympathetic shrug, bad luck bro.]

[Alma tries miming things at her, but ends up just looking like he's gesturing wildly.

He gives up after a moment and just shrugs back with a sigh.

And he's drawing attention from his tablemates... Who are trying to tell him that Slytherin folk are no good... Alma just shakes his head. Nope, Rapunzel is his friend!]

[I don't know what they're talking about, these Slytherin folk seem like lovely people! Rapunzel shrugs, sorry she doesn't get charades, and her tablemates are trying to talk to her too. Maybe we can meet up after the feast- Oh hey the teachers are talking.]

[Oh yes, listening to the professors... but then there is food and after than the Perfects are taking them back to their common rooms....

It might be tomorrow's class before they manage to find one another again.]

[Well that's a shame. I'll just have to track you down later in whatever class I share with Hufflepuff. Hope we at least share herbology!]

Alma puffs up a bit, turning a bright red.] I do not!

[Turning an angry color of red.] Merlin! You're such an asshole! Why do I even like you--!?

[Realizing what he said a moment later and turning pale.]

[ he hears Alma's slip, and stop yelling, eyes wide in surprise. ]

[ then a moment later, he grabs the cushion nearby and throws it at Alma's face ]

Y-You're so embarrassing! How can you say things like that straight out!!!

[ Yu's face is red from anger? embarrassment? it's okay Alma, Yu likes you too. As friends :| ]

[Alma la...ughs a bit, mostly in relief Kanda didn't bite his head off for saying things like that...]

They just come out! I don't mean to! [Situation averted! In Alma's eyes anyway, although he's turning red again.

Still, Alma's gonna try to slip by Kanda and get at his trunk.]

[ you can see he likes you by the fact that he chose to throw a pillow not a table ]

It's not that hard to guess I wouldn't go to the Yule Ball.

[Storming past him, but instead of going to Kanda's trunk like he had been planning to before, he throws himself on his own bed.]

[ Alto was staring at the form that he needed to get signed by a guardian to go to Hogsmeade in the middle of a hallway.

After staring at it for some few moments, he signed, crushed the form in his hand and stuck it in his robe pocket. ]

[...Oh. Oh she knows that look. Walking up to him]

Hi!

[ he didn't think he was being looked at ]

H-Hi.

You don't have permission to go to Hogsmeade either, huh?

[ Alto shrugs his shoulders ]

I had a fight with my father. What about you?

The same thing with my mother.

...Do you think there's a way around this?

[Glances around, checking nobody is listening, then dropping her voice down low]

I did hear about one way out.

....Really? [ talking in a lower voice as well ]

Can you keep a secret?

Okay. Come on. [Motions for him to follow her down this hall]

[ Alto nods with a small smile, and follows her ]

[Let's go find that statue of the one-eyed witch]

[ he looks at the statue ]

I know a way into Hogsmeade, but it's not exactly within the school rules. Promise me you won't tell anyone else about this?

... [ Something between a smile and a smirk appeared on Alto's face ]

Promise. [ he holds out his pinky ]

[Pinky swears!] Okay. Okay, good!

[Pulls out her wand, tapping the statue] Dissendium.

[ Alto's eyes open wide in surprise as the statue opens to show a passage ]

How did you find this?

[ The day hadn't actually been all that bad. It's just stressful. At least for John. The over-archiving Hufflepuff who is now studying for his N.E.W.T.'s like a mad man.

For the past two weeks at the end over each day if someone was looking for John Watson then they need only look one place. The library (or maybe, just maybe off with a teacher asking questions). Mostly the library and today is no different. He's got all sorts of books around him as he reads and takes notes. ]

[Hey, Molly's giving you quite a run for your money with the stress and studying - really, have you seen the girl lately? If not, you're certainly about too, John, as she comes in, arms full of books, and guess what, there's no empty tables in sight.

Well, except for maybe yours, if you moved a few books over]

Um...h-hey, John.

[ John had been so wrapped up in the positions book that he hadn't noticed right away. When he realizes someone spoke he looks up and around until he sees Molly. He quickly smiles. ]

Oh! Hi, Molly! [ He looks at the books she has and starts moving some of his over. ] Need a seat?

Oh, yes, please! [Molly's relieved to get the heavy tomes off of her arms and onto the desk, and she gives a slow smile at John once that weight is gone] Thank you so much, my arms were about to give out...

[She shyly slides into the empty seat, pulling out some parchment from her bookbag.] How's your studying going, by the way?

[ John smiles up at her, knowing how she feels at the moment. ] Yeah. I had to carry like twenty books from the restricted section earlier.

It's good. I'm trying to get better at transfiguration. I've got most my others down.

[She nods, finding her ink and quill and jotting down a few notes for herself, a to-do list, really.] Lucky. I'm still bungling up at Defense Against the Dark Arts. The only ones I'm not worried about are Herbology and Potions.

Defense? [ He looks up with a smile. Despite wanting to be a healer John is very skilled against D.A.D.A. ] I'm good enough at Herbology and Potions. Did you need help in Defense?

A-Are you offering? [Molly pauses in her writing, looking at him.] That would be fantastic, actually.

Do you want me to try and help you with Transfiguration? I-I've got a few spells there that I'm really good at.

Sure. [ He smiles at her. ] It's no problem, really. It'll help me study a bit too.

[ He nods quickly. ] Yes! That'd be brilliant.

[Sssh, he's not that small! There are totally dudes in his dorm that are way shorter than him, shut up forever.

Oh, yeah, doesn't that just sound like a blast? Dave's so glad that the most he's got to worry about is the occasional minor injury from Care of Magical Creatures, nope, no big tests coming up for him! There may or may not have been some gloating on the subject on his part. Maybe.]

[ Ohh, damn.... lucky bastard. Although Dirk isn't really that anxious about the test; positive that he'll pass it ]

Not much, how's the injury?

[Dave shrugs, and holds up his hand in answer. It's neatly bandaged around his palm and wrist, and clearly not bothering him too horribly. Just a burn, not bad enough to need the infirmary, but definitely annoying. It's his dominant hand, though, and the assignment he'd been trying to work on is basically completely illegible.]

Healing. Sure as shit not doing my grades any favors, though. How long d'you figure this has got to keep up before teachers let me get someone else to write this crap?

[ Dirk didn't realize it was on Dave's dominate hand... he would have offered to help him a lot earlier, leaning in to take a look at the hand although there's not much to see because of the bandage ]

I could help you write your assignments down, yo. Did they give anything to help it heal faster?

Ho... Hogs...Hogsmeade!

[ Since they're already three years in (or, at least, she is) the two of them casually skip the trauma of reuniting to save mun many tears.

She was practicing just on how to say Hogsmeade for the past few minutes. Just imagine how excited she is, simply jumping from one store window to the next. ]

This is so cool!

Hogsmeade.

[he repeats after her solidly, his hands in his pockets, casually but apparently disinterestedly alongside her. he's been here several times before, the stores and its goods all well-visited and something of old news to heine. there are other things on his mind, like o.w.l. exams and other annoying but begrudgingly necessary preoccupations for a fourth year, but for his little sister's sake, he tries to let some of her enthusiasm affect him.]

Any shop in particular you want to go to first, Lily?

Um...

[ She bites her bottom lip.

While she was concerned of dragging her elder brother out from his studies, her mind was still racing with where she wanted to go first. While this was her first year allowed this far from the school, she didn't exactly think over where all she wanted to go. ]

What's that? [ She's pointing at the sweet shop, Honeydukes. ] I wanna go there!

[he'd meant to get her a map of hogsmeade, but he forgot... either way, with his accompanying her, he didn't expect her to have given the map a look anyway. he turned his eyes to where lily pointed and answered informatively.]

Honeydukes sweet shop. [though he knew how much lily would love to go in there, it looked pack from the outside, and it was enough to dissuade pleasing his sister... at least temporarily. he tilted his gaze down towards her.] I'll go ahead and stay by the counter when we go in. Try not to get squashed by your classmates.

Okay!

[ She doesn't mind that it's crowded, tugging Heine along until she opens the door and steps inside.

Already her eyes light up with interest and excitement, to where she lets go of him and quickly walks and looks around. ]

[as planned, heine squeezes his way through all the younger students clamouring over what candy to get until their money pouches emptied. taller, he tries to keep his eyes on his sister's little blonde head, but given she's so small his height doesn't give him much advantage. "she'll be fine," he thinks, maybe a little miffed, but realizes he shouldn't be controlling. he doesn't want to be like his mother. merlin knows lily has had enough of that herself.

instead, he distracts himself with neon-coloured lollipops swaying around on their own, their sticks like springs. it seems more like a cat toy than candy...!

--no, he doesn't want to play with it. he shifts away and comes up with a better idea: reminiscing. to think last year he'd been caught up in all of this too. ...a little. candy still isn't his thing, but the trip to hogsmeade had still been a highlight of the year. he hopes lily can feel the same. great, great misfortune shall come upon whomever spoils it for her, he swears...]

[Jim always seems a bit misplaced in Slytherin. He doesn't exhibit the usual confidence that comes with the House. He isn't a bully, nor has he surrounded himself with people who are. He's quiet, and he's brilliant, and he doesn't seem to care when people do pick on him.

People who occasionally have tragic accidents not too long after. Sometimes days. Sometimes as much as a month. Still, it's hard to miss for someone observant.]

[Oh, Mycroft notices Jim. He watches Jim, carefully from his seat in the common room, or from the hallways or through the eyes of his lackeys that he sends to watch people when he can't.

Mycroft's eyes are always watching- or on the look-out- for Jim, because Jim interests Mycroft more than most things in Hogwarts. No secret passage nor hidden spell-book can beat the complex workings of the human mind and the decisions it makes.

And so now, Mycroft sits across the common room, his hand stroking at the handle of his umbrella (and also the container of his wand; when you know the right people, any rule is bendable) as he stares at Jim silently.]

[He doesn't know what to make of attention like this, not yet. Distantly he thinks it's funny, that someone with connections like Mycroft Holmes would keep an eye on him of all people.

Once in a while he looks up from his book - advanced material, well beyond what a second year student should be capable of - fixing dark eyes on Mycroft in return.]

Staring isn't polite.

[Quiet, but audible. After all, the Slytherin common room isn't noisy, and there are only few people around at this hour.]

[Magic bored Sherlock. Its practical usages were not outside his interests but so much of it was tricks and spells to augment the normal weaknesses of the human mind. Who needed divination when logic could link all causes to a plausible effect? Deductions could counter so many curses by putting the wizard one step ahead of his adversary. And really, if he needed to defend himself against a wizard or beast, a muggle gun would suffice in nearly all instances he could forsee.

Now potions had his interest. Potions were practical and required skill and study rather than innate magical capabilities. The only two books Sherlock bothered returning home with were his potions and herbology books, planning to brew a few less acceptable concoctions before having to return to the tedium of school.

It would give him a plausible excuse for Mummy as to why he might avoid spending any excess of time with Mycroft at least.]

[He'd taken the last six, nearly seven years, to establish a number of connections both in his own House and the others. Planning ahead for after the exams, after he's gone from this stifling place.

Though, he supposes that won't necessarily happen soon. They've hinted at perhaps wanting to offer him a teaching position - unheard of for someone his age.

Not really surprising though. So here's Jim, strolling across the green with no particular goal in mind - no, that's a lie. But strolling with no goal anyone knows of. Come bother? You know you're bored.]

[Sherlock watches people on the green over the top of a potions book, no longer reading--never reading at all, really. He's put to memory all the potions which appeal to him and the others are in there somewhere just in case. This is a study in observation, though and much more important than any magical class he should currently be studying for.

He despises the color-coded items which tell him before he even gets a chance to try so much as a guess what the house in which they have been sorted is. Jim he knows well, however, though it does not mean his gaze passes over without interest. He knows Jim might have caused him some pause so long ago if it weren't for the green. Calm, somewhat charming, easy going by all appearances and yet full of such ambition as to warrant his placement in Slytherin. Mycroft has always corrected the assumptions that Slytherin meant evil but there is something about Jim which Sherlock cannot ignore that is far more interesting--far more menacing even--then the bullies that label him a freak.

And that pleased smile is more than Sherlock can handle in a passerby.]
