The Royally Common Romance Meme
![]() β The Royally Common Romance Meme β ![]() βAnd I tell you truly, Daenerys, there is no man in all the world who will ever be half so true to you as me.β ![]() Inspired by an anon comment on rpanons ages ago about a PSL they'd like to play. |
Heavy the head that wears the crown, they say, and little could be more true. Of course, there is glamor in the life: power, privilege, lavish feasts, fine clothes...if your monarchy is doing well, that is. But there are also struggles that few others would understand, such as life or death decisions that need to be made to protect your kingdom at best and being a mere puppet with no real power at worst. At the very least, you're lonely. Certainly there are people around you at all times to protect and serve you, yet they aren't truly companions. They're no one you can talk to. Well, not no one. Not completely. There is one person who's allowed close to you. Perhaps they're even allowed to be alone with you. A trusted advisor, a handmaid, a knight, a court jester, whatever they are, their companionship and support may leave you wanting those peaceful moments and lingering glances to mean...more. And what if you are the other side, someone without royal birth offering your service to your highness? You may have been born into this life, forced into it, or gave yourself to it willingly. It could be much, much worse - at least you and your charge have a good relationship, to the point that you might do anything for them. Have your feelings for them always been more inappropriate than they should, or is this a new feeling? And such feelings - they can't be returned, can they? Or you could see your charge as the human that they are rather than an ideal. Does that mean you can give them the best advice and service you can? And what of their duties to marry and continue their line? Will you step back and let them be bound to another? Then there are the pressures of the throne. The most innocent could be corrupted by power, and you would be in no position to stop them, no matter how it pained you to see the one you cared for twisted and become a wholly different person. To allow anything to blossom between the two of you is risky and perhaps even deadly. Not even royalty can put a stay to an execution of someone who's, for all intents and purposes, committed treason by becoming emotionally compromised. All the same, it may be worth it, in the end. Royalty, after all, has a short shelf life, and the head on the spike may be the one wearing the crown. HOW TO PLAY

He leans down and kisses the curve of her jaw, feeling oddly content for just a moment while they're alone.]
That's the one. Don't let him unnerve you though. Show him some of that Farron spirit. He's expecting much worse after the scene when we took you.

[She smiles, some soft happiness radiating from her as she kisses his cheek, then she looks back at the water.]
I must have confused you, the way I was acting, especially after this morning. Truth is, I hoped if I acted like a noble, my feelings for you would go away.
[She looked back up at him, smile soft.]
I guess they didn't, huh?
no subject
[He wasn't going to mince words with her about that. Her sister was hated. Her father moreso, and the man was dead. Serah is probably the only reason the castle hasn't been burned down around them.]
And what was it that caused these sudden feelings? My pretty face?
no subject
[She shakes her head.]
I understand why you hate them, but I cannot. My family is my world.
[Serah turns to him, tapping the corner of his eye.]
Your eyes are what caused them. It showed how much passion you have. You had a cause.
no subject
[He know it can't be easy for her to hear him state these things so bluntly, but he won't lie to her or leave her in the dark. It will only hurt them both later if he does that.]
And you know that the villagers, and now you as well, are mine. I want everyone safe and happy, but I know that it will take a lot of work to get it that way.
[He smiles sadly at her touch, wishing he could say something to make her feel better.]
My eyes, huh? I'm sure that I can show you other ways to express my passion, Serah.
no subject
[It's not like she doesn't know these things. She's been spit on before because of her sister, she knows exactly what's up. Even if she hates talking about it. She seems to perk up, though, in surprise to the word "mine".]
Yours?
[She can barely keep herself from blushing as she says it, but he brought it up, so:]
Other ways, hm?

[Snow doesn't consider his own happiness when he does things. He considers everyone else's. Which was why he'd been made leader of this ragtag band.
He flushes a bit at her mention of his slip up, but he's extremely ready to prove himself to her.]
I meant that your concerns are mine as much as those of the villagers. And I can think of quite a few times I shared my passion with you last night. Do I need to refresh your memory?
no subject
[Okay, not exactly, but....her sister was never really one for the spotlight. She had simple wants and needs, if anyone could bother to figure them out.
She blushes as he does, losing some of her bravado as it turns into a weird game of flirt-chicken. But she won't lose.]
Is my dress tempting you again? Dinner is almost ready, you know. I might not have time to be refreshed.
no subject
[He doesn't want to fight with Serah, but Clair isn't even slightly suited to her position. Only birth is the reason she'd have that title in the first place. And something told Snow that Serah's older sister would be happier if she were Captain of the Guard.
When she retorts back, he tilts her face close to his and kisses her softly.]
No, there's definitely not enough time for me to refresh your mind about everything. [He runs a hand up her back to pull her flush against his body.] But there's always tonight.
no subject
She's happy when he retorts back, delighting in the touches he gives her.]
Are you sure you could handle that? You need sleep after such a long day....
[She's not sorry, moving to try and attempt to give him a shoulder rub. She leans in close, whispering into his ear:]
Are you sure you'd want to get any with me?
no subject
I can handle anything you want to toss at me.
[He shivers as she whispers in his ear, able to feel her hands on his shoulders and her hot breath against his neck and hair.]
No, I probably wouldn't, but I don't think that's so bad.
no subject
Tonight, then. But we should go soon, or people will think we are doing something.
no subject
I will hold you to that. And they can think all they want. They will.
no subject
Oh, did the guys say something to you?
no subject
[The very thought of that is a bit silly. A good deal of the women in camp have patched him up when injured or nursed him when he was too sick to take care of himself. Not to mention that he rarely wore shirts in the heat of summer some days. So many of the villagers have seen him half-naked as of late that attempts to cover up now seemed pointless.]
They don't have to. They will assume that I've taken you away to have my way with you since that's what they'd do.
no subject
[All blushy, she turns away to start heading back to the village]
I don't want to be distracted, that's all. And if your shirt is off...
[She doesn't bother finishing that statement and walks faster.]
no subject
It seemed silly to put a dirty shirt on after taking the trouble to wash up. I have clean shirts back at camp, after all.
[He doesn't say anything as they head back to the camp, but he does leave her and stop off at his tent to put on a clean shirt and to put his dirty one away, along with the rest of his supplies. As he's about to head toward the main group where dinner is being served, he's stopped by Yuj.
Snow follows the other man over to a small outer section of the camp and begins to argue with them over something that no one else can hear. Twenty minutes later, he comes back, face set in a hard line and eyes cool.]
no subject
[She doesn't understand why he just didn't bring a clean shirt with him, but decides not to question it as she leaves him off with a kiss on the cheek.
She's chatting everyone up when someone notices Snow and notifies her, although with a fearful expression. She comes up to him, gingerly setting her hand on his bicep. ]
Snow?
[Both her tone and face show concern.]
no subject
He's still keyed up from the argument with the other members of the watch but her touch and voice are enough to at least lessen his expression.]
Something's happened. We'll have to move in the morning. Tonight means packing after dinner.
no subject
[Her voice is desperate, and it's obvious she still cares and wants to see her sister, even though she has Snow here now and he would be in danger if her sister were to show up.]
no subject
[He knows he can't lose her now. It would ruin him. Stupid to thing that two days with her and that's all it's taken for him to be so desperately attached to her.]
Serah, if you want to go...
[The words are like ripping his own heart out, but she could leave, pin everything on him, tell her sister everything and be fine. He'd let her do it if she wanted.]
We have to run, but you don't have to.
no subject
[At his words, though, all she can do is grab his hand, squeezing tightly.]
No! I'm not staying here. I'm going with you.
[She loved him. It was obvious, and she just couldn't let him get hurt. Not for her, not for anyone.]
no subject
[He looks down at her, unsure of what he should make her do. He wants her to come with him and the others, wants her to be happy. But his life...isn't safe. He's taken her hostage, if in name only now, and he'll definitely be marked for death if Lady Clair gets her hands on him. He bends down so they're at eye level and he searches her face.]
Serah...you might be hurt. This is a chance for you to...be safe. If you come with me, I'll do my best to keep you protected, but this isn't a game. We're criminals here.
no subject
[She understands now. While Amodar wasn't ruthless, and actually very nice, Serah could not be certain that Snow would not be safe if they ran into him.
Serah seems sad, watching him. She understands that he's afraid, but she wonders if he understands her desires at all. She wants to be happy with him. That is all.]
I want to come with you. But you sound like you don't want me to.
no subject
[He's terrified, sure, but not for himself, for her. He leans in and kisses her softly.]
Serah, I don't want to let you go, but I don't want you to be hurt either. You're welcome to come with me if that's what you want. Gadot's pissed that I'm even giving you this chance. He thinks I should just pick you up and take you with us, tied and gagged if need be.
You're not my prisoner anymore. I can't keep you with me that way. If you want to go back to your sister, I'll [he swallows] I'll understand. I'll hate it, but I will understand.
