Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

You would've been surprised, then, had you been around in the early years of civilization's conception. Far more surprises on the table there, you'd find.

( but the coffee was bitter and dark and pleasant, a far cry from the wine and spirits in asgard's drinking horns, and he took a moment to savour the drink before breaking the silence with: )

There's whispers of a newcomer who surfaced in the shelters of a city up north. A quiet one, they say, keeps to himself most of the time - but in the streets, skirmishes are inevitable.

( a pause, and then a glance in the soldier's direction. )

Some've caught sight of a metallic glint under his sleeve where a slash would've severed the limb. Impervious to blades and gunfire. A sort of armor, perhaps, though that is little more than some semblance of speculation; nobody has gotten quite so close enough for a better look.

( the man steve and his companion were looking for, or simply another of those would-be heroes, drifting until their time had come to step into the light? only time will tell. )

[Steve's reactions to Loki's almost idle pronouncement were subdued, but very much present. He closed his eyes, breath catching almost as though in pain, his hand tightening visibly on his own coffee cup until the admittedly sturdy paper threatened to give way and his knuckles were standing out white and visible. The shock was evident. As was the hope.

It was still several long seconds before Steve managed to compose himself enough to trust himself to open his eyes and regard Loki properly once more.]

How much have you learned about what I'm trying to do here? [Steve could think of ways Loki might have learned these details - particularly the details about the metal arm, which was a pretty solid giveaway as he suspected the technology might be based on Asgardian methods. Without getting in touch with Thor, though, there was no way to know for sure.

Either way, they were ways he could only imagine a demigod making use of without already knowing about "The Winter Soldier" in the first place.

...which was an eventuality Steve suddenly realized he shouldn't discount. Loki had gotten his claws pretty deeply into SHIELD last time. How deeply had he gotten them into HYDRA, too?

So perhaps the real question hidden beneath the words was more along the lines of "why do you care?" If it was just to torment him, Loki couldn't have picked a better route. Steve would rather go on a wild goose chase than risk passing up the faintest opportunity of finding his friend, especially if he was in such straits as the trickster described.

If the goal was actually to point him in the right direction, then the possible motivations at work became a great deal more inexplicable.]

Quite enough, I should think. ( short, simple, a tell-all, really -- while his presence in midgard had been veiled until recently, it is not to say that the trickster had remained ignorant of all that had transpired since he last walked the realm. his response to the good captain's suggestion of an alliance with HYDRA had been a dismissal (much to the man's incredulity, clearly), but oh, if only steve knew how close his suspicions had come.

HYDRA itself was a mild curiosity almost intriguing in their longevity, yet for all their promise the organization's goals were typical, disappointingly unimaginative - that is, until he chanced across the sceptre he'd once thought lost, its power harnessed by mortals bereft of the knowledge of how such a force could be truly wielded --

and then there were the children. a new breed, mercurial but doubtlessly formidable. whatever HYDRA sought to do with them and their precariously volatile abilities were yet unclear, but the potential of what was to come stilled his hand in reclaiming what once was his; an investment, perhaps, in the clash that soon would surely come to pass. HYDRA has lost a soldier, that much is certain (though whether the remnants of SHIELD would stand to gain from it is conditional upon the captain's success), but they would gain two more and others besides. between them and the prospect that SHIELD would rise once more, it could prove a fascinating spectacle indeed. )

Yet I am little more than an observer in this, though whether or not you choose to believe such a statement is entirely not of my concern. Instead, consider how far you've come -- it would be such a waste for all your efforts to be for naught, would it not?

Too much, I should think. [Steve's voice was sharper than he would like, but there was really no helping that. Those five words really did tell a lot, even if he wouldn't dare to believe they told all. Anything Loki knew about Bucky and what had been done to him was too much. Especially since Steve was trying to stop Bucky from being a weapon, and Loki had an unfortunate habit of turning people into them.

He wasn't remotely sure he believed Loki, but hearing him say that he didn't intend to get involved was certainly better than hearing the alternative. And yet, in a way, it wasn't. Cackling maniacs ready to declare their intent to conquer the world were one thing. Steve knew how to deal with those. This Loki was...quiet. Worryingly so. Steve hadn't even felt like he was being watched.]

Yeah, it would. That's why I don't intend for them to be for nothing. [He hasn't seen nearly enough to make him give up yet and plenty to make him want to keep fighting.]
