Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

Another lightning strike, another roll of thunder, and he glanced out the window before nodding. "Looks like it worked."

So had his, honestly. It was doubtful Steve would follow him here, but he couldn't trust Hydra not to have people everywhere, even after the fall of SHIELD and the helicarriers. He was a valuable asset. That was why it was better to be Jim Rogers than 'an unnamed source.' People were curious about unnamed sources. Jim Rogers the homeless guy could be anybody.

"Well, I came at the right time, I guess. Nothing but luck."

He leans back and if the Winter Soldier looks right, he'll notice that from the side, it's pretty clear that Clark's glasses are entirely normal glass. They don't do anything.

He turns to smile at 'Jim'.

"Now it's up to me to make my luck a career."

That was something he'd already noticed. All real glasses did a certain bit of warping both ways - more for the wearer's benefit, of course, but the lenses Clark was wearing were pure window glass. Something to keep in mind. Unfortunately, he couldn't do anything about it except for pay attention. Nothing less than he was already doing. He only had to be careful if this guy was Hydra. That question was still up in the air.

What he said, though, was, "Well, good luck."

The smile at that is pretty darn genuine, though.

"Thanks. I'm sure I'll need it. Especially since I'm still adjusting to the big city."

He glances out the window then.

"I've been all over the place, honest, did a little traveling before settling down here. But it's different when you live there."

'Jim' made a sound that was almost a laugh. Not quite, but almost. "Wouldn't know. I've not really gotten used to it here. It seems big enough to get lost in." And that, he preferred. Easy to get lost in a crowd.

"Yeah," and it's in his tone, clear as day, that that's a part of why he's here too. He needs to be lost in the crowd. He needs to be forgettable.

It takes him a moment before he speaks again.

"It's also a place where people can do a lot of good. Plenty of people who could fall through the cracks, and you can't help them out if you're not there."

"Not everybody wants help." A fair warning, he thought, and the truth. He didn't want help. He could've easily stolen all the money he needed, but that wasn't staying off the radar. That was more valuable than money.

He turns just a little and looks at 'Jim' sideways, without the glass between them.

"If they don't want it, it's not really help, now, is it?"

He snorted. "Good thing somebody gets that." A few people tended to try to push and force 'help.'

"To be fair, I've thought about it a lot."

And there's a lot of sleepless nights in those words. More than one would expect from some random kid off a farm in Kansas.

That was an interesting, telling tone. A weight of responsibility that a normal person Clark's age shouldn't have.

It was familiar in the worst ways.

"You have?"

He nods and it's clear he's not sure what else to say about it, not because the words aren't there, but because he's not sure how to say them without...

Something. He's hiding something.

Finally, nodding his head again, he offers half a smile.

"I think the world would be a better place if people took the time to think about it more. Intention doesn't make right into wrong, or even helpful."

Another interesting statement. Something he was going to have to think about - along with everything else. Just what was his intention anymore? He couldn't remember having control of himself like this, and what was he doing with it? Going to homeless shelters and soup kitchens and trying to keep from being a target while trying to fight through memory.

Was that enough?

"Something to think about."

"Well, if you need any help, feel free to look me up," he says, genuine in the offer.

The bus stops then and he starts to haul himself out of the seat. It gives 'Jim' the chance to see that he's actually a rather large man, but he tends to hunch and hide himself.

"Especially since I'll be at the church looking into things. I like to be thorough."

Large, but that didn't matter so much when it came down to it. He'd fought, and almost killed, Steve Rogers. Captain America. When it came down to it, he didn't even know what his own strength was. Everyone who knew was so far from him, probably wanted him killed -- he wasn't worried about one large man. Even if that large man was hiding something and wearing window glasses.

Once Clark was standing, he followed, stepping off the bus behind him and pulling up his collar against the downpour. It didn't look like it was going to be stopping anytime soon. "How'd the church come to your attention, anyway?"

That made him grin just a little and hold up a finger.

"Ah, see, I wouldn't be much of a reporter if I gave up my sources like that."

'Jim' shrugged. "Whatever you say." He didn't really care if he found out. He was just still wondering what the thefts were.

It's also a little hard to explain that he heard it while visiting for a more mundane reason from several floors away.

"Did you..." he glances at Jim, "you seem pretty concerned. Care to help me with this?"

"I want to make sure what's being stolen isn't something expensive to replace." The truth, for once. It was odd to just say it that way, without the presence of suits or scientists.

Clark nods and glances at the church from the side of his glasses.

"Think you can ask around about that? I'm not sure they'd tell me if it was since they don't want the police involved."

"...Maybe." Maybe. He thought he could, but it required a bit more tact than he thought he possessed. He wasn't exactly a wordsmith.

"You have any better ideas?"

He's not being sarcastic or even smart; he's asking honestly. He's still pretty new at all of this.

"I'm not easily trusted," he said. "They would think I was the thief. If you aren't expected, rough yourself up. Get some old clothes. They'd talk to you easier."

He knew what he looked like. What he sounded like. What he was.

"I can get their records."

That, however, was easy.

Clark winces and rubs at his cheeks, suddenly annoyed that he'd shaved this morning.

"I guess I could slip back to my apartment, change my clothes."

He's obviously thinking about it, but something piques his interest in what 'Jim' had said.

"Why wouldn't they trust you? I am."

He met Clark's gaze easily, his eyes almost empty - no emotion, no fear, no amusement. Nothing. "You're a reporter. You think more about what you'll get than what you might lose."
