[ she offered to teach him. it's been slow-going, between the ship imploding and everything else derek has taking up his time, but they manage to find a regular schedule, something that works for them. there's a marked difference. derek can tell, when something comes climbing out of the dark and tries to eat them all. he tells her that sometimes, just a flutter-brush of his thoughts against hers. it's how he announces himself today, stepping closer to her, smoothing his palms along her shoulders. ]

[ derek hits hard. she can take it, but he always asks, never wants to hurt her deliberately. ]

[She answers without hesitation, honesty and something warm in her voice. She feels good, feels settled in her skin, aware of her body and certain of what it was capable of, what it could endure. She leans into Derek's hands, silent request for him to keep touching her.]

[ derek likes hearing it, likes hearing tyke say he's doing well. but he never accepts it gracefully, brushes it aside. the real test is going to be when he has to actually use it on someone that isn't tyke, and that moment hasn't arrived. ]

[ he tells her, because he is grateful that she's doing this, teaching him. he runs his hands over her skin, down her back, then back up, like a half-massage. ]

[His hands feel good, fingers running over minor aches, loosening them further under the flow of hot water. Her breath catches, lets out slow, head tipping forward loosely on her neck.]

Don't need to thank me. [Murmured, low, any real objection lost in the warmth of the shower and his touch.] Just wanna know you've got it when you need it.
