Dreams are difficult enough to understand. They range from embarrassing, to frightening, to thought-provoking, to just plain nonsensical. You may find yourself wondering what that was all about, or trying to forget about it as quickly as you can. It may be close enough to reality to confuse you, or dream logic may prevail. Whatever the case, the world of dreams is a way to delve into your psyche and deal with what happened to you that day, your fears, and whatever's on your mind.

1. sweet dreams

Something like this might not happen too often in your waking life, if ever. You've found the world's largest supply of grape ice cream, you've won the lottery... or, perhaps, you're just having a really good day. Will this person share in your joy or ruin it for you?

2. nightmares

Your worst fears are being visited upon you tonight. Whether it's falling, losing those closest to you, insects, or something particular to you, there's no doubt you'd wake up in a cold sweat if everything went normally. Having this person there isn't 'normal', though. Maybe they can make things better.

3. sexy dreams

Isn't it so awkward when the person you're in bed with suddenly asks why you're dreaming about them in a schoolgirl costume?

4. bizarre dreams

It's hard to categorize this, but it probably seems perfectly natural to you that you need to find the smallest grain of sand in the world to stop an alien invasion up until someone points out how weird that is. And maybe it still seems normal to you even after that. They might be the ones being silly!

5. memories

The mind often revisits important events in one's life. For good or bad, you're back in time, reliving something that stuck in your head. But... that guy wasn't here before, was he? Or maybe he was, but hasn't seen it from your point of view yet.

Dreams are many and varied. Mix up the flavors, or try something completely different. Wherever your mind will take you is game.

"Wait."

And then he would face-palm.

"This isn't the real world. We're in a dream, my dream it seems. I'm not sure how this happened."

"What?" Esmerelda's confused.

"You're not real? And Nor? And - none of it?"

"What happened did occur but sometime before this. I was having a dream of the past." He sighed.

"Though if your people are in danger my offer does stand."

She smiles sadly.

"I knew this was too good to be true..." She sighs.

"How will you find us? And, if I am in your dream, how do you know you do not dream me?"

"Simple, when I exit the dream I will exit from your body. It's not difficult." He was confident in this as if someone just asked him to walk across a road "And I know I didn't dream you because I can distinguish between a dream entity and a living entity now that I know I'm in a dream."

"So you will come into my body?" Esmerelda is horribly confused, and beginning to wonder if she's dreaming or if she's even a figment of his imagination... and now - what?

No, right now my body is in the dream world. So I would use your body as an exit so I will be standing next to you when you wake.

"Very well... and will I remember who you are?"

"You should but even if you don't I doubt you will spurn the offer of help."

She nods...

"Then, shall we? Before... it comes back?"

"Alright."

Rather abruptly the dream would end. Esmerelda would be in her bed and just as he said Baxter was standing next to her.

Esmerelda blinked her way into reality, jumping considerably when she saw Baxter.

"It was real..."

"I told you." He sounded a little amused.

"So we're in France?"

"It is not every day you meet a god, you know?" She looks at him in amusement.

"Yes, this is Paris. And this is the Court of Miracles. The only safe place in the city."

He'll see that they're in the catacombs beneath Paris. Light is provided through burning flares which gutter and smoke. Bright bits of material hang from the ceiling and there's straw underfoot.

"Is there a way to get a message out quickly?"

He seemed to get straight to business "I want every one of your people hidden within an hour's time. I don't want someone to be caught in the crossfire."

"We can get Clopin to announce it... Everyone listens to Clopin."

Most would listen to her, she was fairly sure. But Clopin was the safe bet.

"What are you going to do?"

"I am going to give a show of power. I won't damage the city or any people if I can help it but after the church sees just what you have enlisted the aid of they will hide in their church thinking me a demon who can't trespass upon The Brat's holy ground."

Esmerelda's slowly beginning to feel very unsure of what she has done. Though the god seems benevolent... is he all that he seems? But she can't do anything now.

She got out of bed; fully dressed (she didn't own any other clothes) and set off down the catacomb.

"Come on. We should find Clopin."

"Very well."

Noticing some worry he would add "I am neither good nor evil but know this; the god of the church would have the rest of the gods die so he can be the only one."

"Then it is he who sounds as close minded as the men who serve him."

It is true. Gods can often be what their believers shape them to be.
