Interspecies Love Meme

Vampires and humans. Angels and demons. Ghosts and the living. The idea of "opposites attracting" is hardly a new one, but with the rise in popularity of supernatural creatures, aliens, and other sentient beings beyond our human understanding, the forbidden romance trope has been injected a shot of fresh blood- sometimes quite literally.

This meme does just that, taking the whole "not meant for each other" thing to it's most logical extreme. Of course, it's not always angst and depression. These days, mermaids and bird-people can have their relationships in peace to some degree.

Rules

Comment with your character, putting any preferences you have (ie, "humanoid characters only," F/M, etc). Also, be sure to note your character's "species" for others to reference (Name | Character | OTA | Human, ghost, mutant, alien, vampire, god, zombie-catgirl hybrid, etc).
Reply to others. If your characters aren't different species, feel free to AU or anything else like that.
Use the rng to determine your prompt.
Also I didn't think I needed to say this, but be excellent to each other. Dick comments and anon bullying are not on.

Prompts

Meeting: Did you know there were, I don't know, werewolves before this? Or maybe you thought all aliens were evil. Will this...thing change your perception?
Falling in Love: You know you're not the same, but your feelings don't care.
Self-Hate: Perhaps you're mad at the being you're in love with, yet you're more angry at yourself.
Can't Be Together: Whether for self-inflicted reasons or societal rules, you can't be in love with who your heart has chosen and it's putting a strain on you.
Pushing You Away: Things are getting too intense, and for both of your sake, you want to make friend/crush/lover hate you.
Beauty & the Beast: One of you is beautiful, the other hideous. Maybe, though, the beautiful one is ugly in the eyes of society, depending on where you live. Whatever the case is, you don't look the same.
Confession: Screw the rules, you're going to tell that sweet girl/guy/other how you feel! What can go wrong? Or this is something you've put a lot of thought into and you're scared, but you're going to do it.
First Time...or Not: Finally, the two of you are taking the next step and getting physical. It may go off without a hitch, depending on your...you know, or- OH GOD, HOW IS THAT GOING TO GO IN HERE. Wait, you have a...?
The Kinky Option: Hey, maybe being different will pay off. Think about it. A long tongue? Ghost powers? Sounds like it could be fun in the bedroom.
Prejudice: "What are you doing with that dirty monster?" "You know we can't be involved with humans!" "We don't take kindly to your type around here." Why can't people just leave you two be?
Facing Your Instinct: It's hard to be with someone when you want to suck their blood. Or eat their brains. Or possess them.
Because of Me: Your lover has been dragged into your fight or hurt by others of your kind. Now they're in the crossfire.
Standing Up For You: Hey, knock it off! I don't care what you think, he's perfect in my eyes.
You Don't Know You're Beautiful: The fluffy option where you're trying to make your loved one see just how much you care and how they're beautiful to you, no matter what.
Gifts: Show your affection with a gift from your culture.
Starting a Family: Can you even reproduce? Is it something you want to consider? Perhaps it's new ground to tread, so you'll have to be the first to think about it.

[This had seemed like a good idea, up until the point where she started fretting about things, worrying about seeming silly. Minako is no stranger to gift giving, heck, she's not even a stranger to giving gifts to someone she cares for deeply. But something about presenting a gift to Loki makes her exceptionally, uncharacteristically nervous. It could be a him not being human thing. It could be that her gift is hardly extravagant or luxurious or even worth all that much at all. It could also be a him being rather unpredictable thing.

She knows of course that he's... Kind of a bad guy, at least in the way one would conventionally think of a bad guy. So it's maybe weird that she, a conventionally good girl, would like him. But the thing is, once she gets to know someone she can't bring herself to not like them. Even if she doesn't agree with all of their actions.

For now she's just doing this half turning a blind eye, half focusing on her affection for him thing. And most of all, turning her focus to the fact that he's not all bad. He tolerates her well enough after all.

All that aside, she's... Definitely fretting and probably acting rather unnatural, fidgeting, hands behind her back, concealing a green scarf she's made herself, especially for him. Does a Frost Giant really need a scarf? Will he even want to accept it? Will he just give her a look? She doesn't know. Unpredictability and all that.] ... Um... Loki?

[Here goes nothing.] I kind of have something for you...

[Loki looks up from the old parchment he is reading, his red eyes crinkling at the corners in a way that looks almost benevolent. He smiles, a little, careful not to show teeth in this shape, knowing they are many and sharp.] Hello, little mortal. What brings you?

[He met Minako on something of a chance meeting and had grown... well, not exactly to like her -Loki isn't sure he is even capable of that anymore- but there is a fondness there, a fondness he's rarely felt for a mortal.

It seems odd, how very little afraid she is of him, even in this shape. He wouldn't exactly call it soothing but there is something strangely pleasing in standing before her in all his monstrous glory, eyes blood-red and skin a deep blue, adorned with raised, grey marking, and see her smile as if she didn't mind.

She seems nervous today still, fretting a little as she approaches him, though it appears to be more because of what she's brought with her than because of Loki himself.] For me?

[She doesn't mind the way he looks at all, why would she? He's just Loki, regardless of how he looks. What's on the inside matters more than what's on the outside and.. A monstrous outside may hide a likeable person, and a beautiful outside may hide someone completely vile. And he, despite what could be considered a monstrous form, is definitely likeable to her... Certain actions aside and all. ~~We don't talk about those.~~

Was she a little startled in the beginning? Yeah, she was. But now it's just normal. She would even say that she likes how he looks. It feels like a sort of trust, she supposes, that she gets to see Loki being himself. And really, in the end, everything else aside, it's hard for her to fear someone she's gotten to know... Of course she still has a healthy amount of respect for him. She would be a fool if she didn't.]

Yeah... [She seems more nervous now that his attention is on her, a light blush spreading over her cheeks.

She would have liked to present the scarf to him without this nervousness... But it seems in the end she really is a typical young woman when it comes to this kind of thing.] I hope you'll like it, but it's okay if you don't and just throw it away or something-

[Get your act together, Minako, don't start babbling.] I made this for you.

[She holds the scarf out for him to see. She's just going to casually find a spot on the floor more interesting for a little while.]

[Loki doesn't understand where her obstinacy to befriend him might come from. It is foolish, to him, to come so close to the monster he is, to let one's guard down and tentatively express affection. He's not sure what to make of it but he accepts it, almost warily, watching her with sharp eyes. He might not understand her, but that doesn't mean he can't appreciate her.

He likes the respect with which she treats him, too. It is undeserved but he takes it nonetheless, feeling almost fond every time she wavers and flushes bright red. His eyebrows furrow at the idea of throwing away her present. It's not that he would care so much about hurting her feelings (or would he?) but he doesn't see the purpose that would achieve.]

I would not. [He reassures and takes the green cloth in her hands, unwrapping it until he can see what it is. A scarf. She got him a scarf, and made it herself, by the looks of it. He can't help but chuckle, though there is nothing mocking about it.] You do realise the irony of trying to keep a Frost Giant warm?[he teases. He strokes his fingers over it and shakes his head.] I shall have use for it when I take my other form, still. I thank you.

Scarves do make lovely fashion accessories at least. [Minako points this out with a soft little laugh as she looks up at him and smiles brightly. She's glad that he'll keep it, even if it doesn't get to serve its use to keep someone warm. Knowing that he'll keep her gift, heck, even if he never uses it at all, is more than enough for her.

... She tilts her head at him after a moment.

Would he mind if she...? Maybe she should ask. Yeah, she should definitely ask first. Even if asking is a little embarrassing and all.] ... Mind if I hug you?

[She may be looking at the floor again.

Maybe it's much to ask, but Minako is a physical sort of person to begin with. Hugs, holding hands, that sort of thing, it just comes naturally to her. Normally, with someone she cares for, she'd just go ahead and do it, but then, her relationship with Loki is fundamentally different from the relationships she has with her other friends.

Or rather, he's different, in that she can't always predict how he'll react, especially to physical affection.

Asking permission is really just part of that whole respecting him thing.]

Very true. I have a few fine ones of my own. [He pets the fabric of the scarf slowly, his lips curling up in a smile. It's not his usual grin, the one that shows entirely too many teeth to be friendly, but a much smaller one, more genuine and that makes his eyes crinkle a bit at the corners.

To say that her request is unexpected is a bit of an understatement. Loki's face doesn't change because he's good at hiding his emotions but he stills, just looking at her for a second. She seems embarrassed and a bit unsure of how he'll take the question. Truth is, he doesn't know how to take it. He wants to ask why but that might just give him an answer he would not know what to do with. Instead, he half shrugs and raises an eyebrow at her.] You might get frostbite.

... I'll just hug you really quickly. [Problem solved.

She's giving him one of those curious stares now, head tilted to the side slightly, before she smiles and then laughs a little. His acceptance of the gift and that smile of his has put her in a pretty good mood.

Had he asked why she wants to hug him, she'd simply have answered that it's because she likes him and that that's the only reason she really needs to want to give affection.] Which is my way of saying that I'm willing to take that risk!

[She smiles brightly again, though her head is still tilted.] So can I?

[She's not going to do it without his consent.]

[Predictably, his rather weak warning doesn't seem to deter her all that much. He can't think of another reason to refuse that would not make him look silly or hurt her feelings. He wants to, as well, in a very odd way. He looks at the way she smiles warmly at him and he feels unworthy, an impostor of sorts.]

I could tell. [He replies and then sighs, giving in though it goes against most of what he tries to believe in.] Very well.

[He puts the scarf down and stands up, looking uncharacteristically awkward though not tense. He holds out his hand to show he doesn't mind that much, looking at her expectantly.]

[Her smile turns completely bright and joyful when he says yes and once he's on his feet and holds his hand out to her like that, she near jumps at him, unable to contain her happiness. Her arms wrap around him and she hugs him tightly, burying her face against his chest.

She said she'd hug him quickly, but remaining like this for a moment longer is okay, isn't it?

She feels a little bad maybe, about this, because it feels almost like she coerced him into it by not dropping the issue, but... She's much too happy to let it put a damper on her mood.]

[He has to smile back tentatively, unused to being on the receiving end of such a genuinely joyful smile. He tenses up in surprise at the enthusiasm she display and then relaxes, chuckling. She's a fragile little thing so he's very cautious about wrapping his arms back around her shoulders, making sure his cold fingers rest on the material of her clothes and not on her skin.

He can modulate the temperature of his body, to a certain extent, so he focuses on not radiating cold at least, though he'll still be cool to the touch.]

Are you done? I have a reputation to uphold, you know. [He says after a while though he clearly does not mind.]

[Minako would deny being fragile. She kind of is, but shh. She'd never ever admit it.

Being hugged back, however carefully, makes her even happier and she hugs him a little tighter. Loki might not understand, but... To Minako, the most important things are that those she cares for are happy, and that they know that she loves and values them. She doesn't know what would make him happy yet, but she'll do her best until she finds out. Even if he doesn't understand why she's like this. It's just how she is. She's the type to love unconditionally, the type who gladly sacrifices for a loved one, and doesn't particularly care about herself, so long as the ones she cares for are okay.

Well... Considering Loki is, well, Loki... It'll probably take a while until she can figure out what makes him happy. Seeing him smile, however small, is good encouragement though. The best encouragement actually. And she'll continue to care for and respect him until she figures out how to make him happy... And beyond that too. She's just the type to quickly get attached to someone.

When he mentions his reputation, she looks up at him and pouts,] I think your reputation can withstand a hug that lasts longer than five seconds. I don't seem to be in any imminent danger of getting frostbite either, so.

[She smiles again, happily.] ... I'll let go soon. But not yet. Unless you absolutely want me too.

It's not like Stiles knew Tyler all that well or anything so what did you get someone you didn't know? And, okay, so he didn't know the guy's birthday and Christmas was more than six months away still, but hey Stiles was nothing if not creative and inventive so why not surprise someone with a random present? Everyone loved presents, right? Right! Who didn't? And who wouldn't be overjoyed at getting a random present one day?

And maybe the guy kinda saved his life once or twice, whether or not he meant to or even wanted to (which was par for the course for him, it's not like he wanted to save half of the lives he ended up saving- pack not included of course). So of course the decent thing would be to do something nice in return.

But because Stiles can also be a dick he got a gag gift too, which was a studded dog collar that said 'spot' on the dog tag that dangled from the middle of it in the shape of a paw print.

He's hilarious.

You learned a lot hanging out in spaceport bars, the seedier the better, because cheap booze meant lots of it bought and drunk and that always loosened tongues. You ever want information you don't ~~necessarily~~ want to beat out of someone, a bar and a keen set of ears is the way to go.

So Riddick sat, nursing his drink, watching a bead of condensation trace a long wobbly line down the glass's side, listening. Until she walked in. He'd seen a lot of species in his time, so the obvious things that drew other people's eyes didn't much faze him. But he noticed the air around her, how it was thick and sharp, and the way her eyes darted around, missing nothing. She was a predator, just like him.

"Interesting," he murmured, letting his gaze get brazen, letting her know she was being watched.

She notices his stare almost immediately, and makes a face at him.

"I'll bet you say that to all the ladies." She sounds unimpressed, but her eight legs carry her toward the stranger anyway. With out even glancing at the bartender, one of her arms slams a few dollar bills onto the bar and snaps her fingers, demanding her usual drink.

She eyes up the man before her and raises an eyebrow. "I guess you weren't going for subtlety, then."

"Only the ones that look like they might be fun." He shrugs, tilting his head. She definitely looked fun, in the dangerous 'might be blood involved' kind of way.

He tilts his head, as she orders her drink. "Hard to go for subtle when the lady buys her own booze."
