Looks like the weather forecast was right; it's absolutely pouring! And most people are complaining about the sudden downpour.

But forget those negative nellies! Just post a comment with your series name and character name as usual, as well as any other notes you wish to add, then pick a prompt using the RNG and get started!

1. OMG RAIN!!!

Rain is just the BEST THING EVER, RIGHT?! Well, that's what you think and you're determined to have a good time. Either going for a walk or splashing through puddles or even just sitting around and getting wet, you're going to milk every second of this rain and drag your friends along for the ride.

2. FUCK YOU, RAIN.

Oh god, it's raining. This just completely ruins your day. Maybe you were planning to go shopping but the roads are still flooded up, or because the school closed thanks to the storm, you need to hire a last minute babysitter for your kids. Whatever the reason for it, you're not pleased about this rain and you don't care what anyone else thinks.

3. RAIN SIEGE

Oh lord, it looks like you're stuck inside. It's raining too hard for you to even think of leaving! Will you make a daring escape in a ridiculous raincoat or will you just give up and watch TV? But what if you run out of snacks? Or the TV reception dies?!

4. A WALK IN THE RAIN

Nothing like the sound of rain beating against your umbrella, right? You don't really care either way about the chaos and even though it's chilly, the one thing you want to do today is head out for a walk in the rain and maybe grab a hot chocolate on the way back.

[Dirk spends a solid minute watching the guy look confused and stare up at the rain, and what begins as mild amusement and a dash of detached fascination soon grows more sincere as time passes and the young man does not move. What's he so entranced by? He looks so sad.

Dirk should say something. What should he say? What if that guy just wants to be left to his own devices? Seriously, the last thing he needs is to get tangled up in another person's plans.

And yet Dirk always was a meddler.]

Hey.

[The boy turns to address the man in the rain from behind a deadpan expression and the veil of pointy shades.]

Hey, what are you doing out there?

[ Ren turns as if he's just realized that there's someone else there. Oh. Someone's watching. He should probably feel embarrassed, but... ]

...Ah...

[ He's... pretty sure that normal human beings don't go on long rambling tangents about the bizarre state of the sky and the water falling down from it and how alarming it is to feel it in your skin, so Ren refrains. But he also gets that he's probably not behaving very normally right now. Something about the rain pins him in place. ]

Er... I... like it.

[ He looks extremely unsure of that statement. ]

You don't sound so sure about that.

[Strange dude, but then again Dirk "I grew up in the apocalyptic future with no one but a computer and a puppet for company" Strider is one to talk. He can remember looking like a weirdo getting used to new shit too-- he's pretty sure Roxy still has video footage of when he saw grass for the first time.

Wait, has this guy never seen rain before? That's what it brings to mind, anyway. But most people don't have such weir-ass circumstances as he did, so that's an unlikely scenario.]

Well, if you want to get out of the rain there's room under here dude.

I... can't.

[ Well, that came out sounding both insane and incredibly stupid. Ren scrambles for a way to explain it in a manner that won't make him seem even crazier, and comes up with none. He's looking over at the other guy now, though, feeling embarrassed. ]

...I. [ He stops there, then kind of shrugs despondently. This is it. The day someone finally realizes that he's actually kind of a dog. ]

[Huh. Well, Dirk isn't quite sure what to do with that answer either. In lieu of responding, Dirk just takes out his umbrella and walks over to Ren, holding it above both of them. Hey, he's not the bleeding-heart type but contrary to popular belief Dirk is not, in fact, a robot; a fact which is sort of funny considering the situation.

Anyway, this is some straight-up Totoro shit right here.]

[ Oh. Ren freezes in surprise, realizing slowly what has happened. Once the rain is no longer bearing down on him, the feeling of being locked in place begins to fade a little. Thank god. He turns to the other man. ]

Thank you.

[ He feels like he owes an explanation, at least. ] I think it made me... anxious. [ That's a word for it. ]

[Dirk shrugs, slipping one hand into his hoodie pocket.]

Hm.

[This guy's got some sort of... well, he's got something going on. Some part of him knows that feel-- of being anxious and weirded out by shit other people take for granted. Not that Dirk really knows Ren's deal or anything; but anxiety and all that crap? He's more familiar with that than he'd like to let on.]

Is rain just not a thing where you're from?

[ Ah. There. Ren grabs onto the lifeline Dirk may or may not have intentionally thrown him. ]

-Oh. No, it isn't. [ It's... not really a lie. Rain truly isn't really a thing for him. It hadn't affected him when he'd been an Allmate because Aoba would never have left him out in it, being mechanical and all that.

Ren looks down at his soaked clothes. ] I had never really seen it before.

[Normally he'd assume that Ren was just fucking with him, but there's something earnest about how innocent he seems. Dirk lets himself take a good long look at Ren from behind his shades. The guy is sopping wet, sitting in a puddle, and he looks so blank, so... nascent. It's a weird word to pop into his head to describe this person sitting next to him on the ground, but it feels right. Ren looks like a little kid who is learning his world for the first time.

A question occurs to him.]

Where are you headed, anyway? Shouldn't you get home and get dry or something?

[ That's pretty much right on the money; Ren wouldn't even have an excuse to offer if Dirk voiced the thought aloud, which he fortunately has not. ]

I went out for something... an errand. I lost my way, and then it started raining.

[ This is why he doesn't like going out on his own. It had been a mistake to try. ]

[This guy really is like a kid. Dirk can't just leave him hanging here alone and lost in the rain, that'd be a shitty move, and he's sure Roxy would give him an earful about it later. Besides, leaving Ren here would just bother him-- he'd be sitting around thinking about it for the rest of the night.

Dirk sighs, defeated by his own hyperconsciousness.]

Do you at least know where you live?

[He'd better figure out where this guy's going and get him there safely.]

[ He really is naive in a lot of ways; this is one of them. He remembers the Coil in his pocket and takes it out at Dirk's question, but the rain's brought its network connection down. ]

I... can remember where to go, just not the address.

[ It was information he never needed to memorize before. He at least knows where to go though. ]

[This guy just gets weirder and weirder. Dirk is about to ask to see that computer and examine it to see what sort of technology it is, but thinks better of it as the device fails to work. Well...

He holds his hand out to help Ren up.]

Hope it's in walking distance.

[ He takes it, looking a little surprised. ]

It is.

[ Straightening up, sort of shaking the water out of his hair. ] I've been impolite. What is your name?

[He looks like a dog, shaking the water off of him like that. Oh, if only he knew.]

Dirk. And you?
