The Body Heat Meme

Post with your character! They're now stuck in a very cold place of your choice. It can be anything, such as a freezing chamber, a cavern or a small cabin in the midst of a blizzard. The choice is up to you.
Comment around! Now your character has some company in this bone-chilling environment. The two of them share two things in common: clothes completely unfitting for this weather (be they summer clothes or even lingerie) and a blanket.
A blanket? Yes, just one warm blanket and no other ways to escape the cold. The two of them will have to share it in order to stay alive in this weather. Don't worry, you're sure to find a common language in this terrible situation!
So, uh, have fun, I suppose. Try to not freeze to death!
Protip: friction and body heat are both excellent ways to fend off cold.

[ his reply is shaky from the shivers, and it's a sheepish grin hope gives her, covering his mouth with both hands and exhaling.

not that it helps much because gloves but the moment of warmth his face got was worth it. ]

Was it that obvious?

[She returns the grin and nods.]

Looks like we're both going to be a bit stubborn. So I think...

[She settles down right next to him and wraps the blanket around the both of them, whether he likes it or not.]

We'll have to share it. My name is Kairi, by the way.

[ he momentarily wonders why this didn't ever cross his mind, but that's answered when his new companion takes a seat right next to him and now this is just slightly awkward; he's not very big on any kind of contact, especially not with people, but the rational part of him knows this will keep him - them both - warm, and that's all they need right now.

so then hope pulls his half of blanket over his shoulder, grateful for the little warmth it gives. ]

I'm Hope. The circumstances under which we're meeting are probably less than ideal, but that aside, it's nice to meet you, Kairi. And - thank you.

[As awkward as it might seem to him, she seems at home like this. She's okay with the contact and despite not really knowing Hope, she's highly comfortable. Because hey, men are like, natural space-heaters.]

You're more than welcome. And it's nice to meet you too.

[She pauses, then smiles.]

Hope. I like that name.

[cuddlesnuggle]

[ eeeeaurgh what is happening his ears are kind of hot it's so weird. not that any heat isn't good but it's still weird. he can't handle this kairi you're way too comfortable with everything; it's sweet and all but hope is just made of awkward right now. ]

Oh. Um, well - thanks again, I suppose. [ a laugh, and he's hoping it doesn't come out as tense as he thinks he sounds ] Yours is nice, too.

[Hey, she's just trying to make sure they're both warm. IT'S ALL INNOCENT, SHE SWEARS IT. snugglesnuggle. So maybe, once it's done, she'll look back and think that she was maybe pushing it, but he's nice, so it's okay, right?]

[If it sounds tense at all, she doesn't notice, because hey, she's comfortable. And since conversation is nice...]

Where are you from?

I'm from Academia. It's a city at the base of Cocoon.

[ ah, conversation. conversation is good; it helps take his mind off the tension, and hope begins to settle down a little, too. ]

How about you? If you aren't, that is.

[She tilts her head slightly and lifts a finger to her chin in thought, though she quickly pulls it back under the blanket. Too cold for that, so she's going pull the edge of the blanket just over her chin so her voice isn't muffled.]

Cocoon? I haven't heard of that world. But ah, I'm from Destiny Islands, but I doubt you've heard of it. I wish I was there right now, though. It's so much warmer there...

I haven't, no, but it does sound like a good place to be. It's a lot warmer on Academia, too; the temperature is regulated there, so we don't often have bad weather --

[ but wait - that... world? curiosity piqued. ]

Do many worlds exist where you're from?

[Yes, that world. Silly Hope.]

Mmhm! I've only been to a few of them and they're all very different from each other, but I enjoyed being in all of them. ... Well. Except for maybe the World That Never Was, but I have mixed feelings about that place.

[She shakes her head and snugglecuddle.]

But tell me more.

[ oh no kairi this boy is a scientist he's going to have a billion questions for you in no time at this rate ]

That's amazing. We've never accomplished something like that; mostly because we don't really have the technology to, just yet -- the paradox occurrences from multiple timelines blending is the closest we've come to experiencing any alternate realities. Whole different worlds, on the other hand --

[ it's getting a bit easier to lean back against kairi and snuggle up just a little now that he's got something else to focus on, so he does. ]

I can't begin to imagine how much there'd be to discover. If you don't mind, I'd like to hear more about those multiple worlds, too.

As for mine, well... there's either a lot to say about it, or very little. What would you like to know?

[She doesn't mind answering questions, really. In fact, she'll probably enjoy being able to talk about the places she's been. At his words though, she tilts her head slightly as she tries to process exactly what he said. She's young, leave her be.]

Alternate realities? That sounds really interesting.

[Yay cuddles, don't mind her, she'll be leaning her head against his shoulder.]

Well... They're kind of small, if you really think about it. Destiny Islands is a separate world, but it's just an island chain. Twilight Town is an entire town, but it's its own world, too.

And ah... well, I don't really know what to ask about Cocoon, really...

Ah - I used to live on Cocoon; it's a self-contained world that levitated over the bigger world of Gran Pulse. After it fell, we moved to Academia. That's at the base of the pillar that supports Cocoon now.

The alternate universes are more of separate timelines that exist alongside each other, parallel universes of sorts. We're not really sure how many there are, exactly, it's probably impossible to count them all. They're accessible, in a way, but only by certain people specifically.

How do you travel between your worlds, though? Are there portals or something?

Gran Pulse? What's that like?

[Oh man she's actually really interested in this parallel universe thing, and of course, Gran Pulse. But of course, there are his questions to answer, too.]

Ah, well. That depends, actually! My friends and I usually use these things called Gummi ships to travel between worlds, but it's possible that when a world is swallowed by darkness, that the people there end up on other worlds entirely. And then there are those that can actually create these portals called Dark Corridors, I think. Mostly the people that use them are ones that can control the darkness.

It's -- [ he pauses for a moment to think. his memories of the place are less than fond, but to say that it doesn't invoke even a little awe in him wouldn't be quite truthful. ] Well. One word for it'd be massive, I guess. And dangerous, because of the free reign nature's been given to develop itself; it's a kill or be killed place, but that's fair, I think, for everything to be given its own fighting chance at survival. I've been to a few of its locales, but I doubt I'd covered a significant area of the place. There's still so much we haven't discovered.

[ ships? fascinating. ]

I'm assuming these ships of yours require some sort of specific material or engine that enables them to traverse the space between worlds like that - perhaps we'd be able to build something similar, that lets us visit the other timelines as well. What about the darkness you mentioned, though? It sounds like a malevolent force of some kind.

[Yep, still fascinated.]

But even if it's dangerous, I imagine it has its beautiful places, right?

[But with the mention what's used to make the Gummi ships be able to travel to different worlds, she laughs a bit nervously.]

I wouldn't know about that, actually. I've only been in one a couple of times. Usually when I went to other worlds, it was... well, I was getting taken there against my will or by some other means. As for the darkness, you're right about that.

There's the light and the darkness, and corresponding realms, or so I was told. There's also the Realm Between. So... [She fiddles with her fingers under the blanket, trying to think of the best way to explain it.] The Realm of Light is where most of the worlds that we can travel to are, so I suppose the materials used to make the Gummi ships have something to do with the worlds. The Realm Between has a few worlds of its own and that's where most of the worlds I've been to are.

I think some of the worlds in the Realm Between are more associated with one of the other realms or the other, but Twilight Town is exactly in the middle, if what I was told was right.

That's true. Most of the places I've been to in Gran Pulse really are breathtaking. I guess part of it comes from having grown up in Cocoon; the sheer difference in environment amplifies the effect, or something.

[ he's been listening intently to her explanations, and the concept of the differing dimensions is really, really interesting. ]

Does that make Twilight Town more or less susceptible to the effects of things that happen in either realm? Or it could act as a sort of nexus too, couldn't it --

[ ugh so many big words everywhere all the time but he can't... help it... ]

I'm sorry you had to be taken to those places against your will, though. It's not the kind of experience I'd wish upon anyone.

Twilight Town has a lot to do with Nobodies, which are beings that exist better in the Realm Between, so it has its own ah... attributes is the word, I think? - so that they can exist there.

[Context clues are great to be good at deciphering, so she doesn't mind it at all.]

It's all right. I try to see the best in it, so if those things hadn't happened, I wouldn't have been able to see what I've seen, or even know that I can wield a Keyblade.

[Look at that smile; being optimistic is a great thing.]

Maybe someday, a path to Gran Pulse will open up and we'll be able to visit. I'd love to see it. [cuddlesnuggle some more.] And then you can give the grand tour.

But that's great, I think, that you feel you've come out all the better from it.

[ his companion's cheer is infectious, and hope finds himself smiling back, marveling at her optimism. ]

[Kairi tugs the blanket up around her a little, a bit of a cold chill hitting her from where the blanket was slipping from behind her. She adjusts her position and shivers a bit, but covers herself properly this time.]

I'm just worried that if the path opens, it means your home will have more to deal with than the danger that's already there.

[She leans against him even more, her body seemingly making an attempt to press herself against his body entirely.]

But I guess, if we're making our way out there, then it won't be like that for too long. I'd love to be able to visit your world without having to save it, though. Maybe someday...

Does it have to be the only reason one would come into existence, though? Your world seems like it'd be open to more than that sort of possibility --

[ here he pauses, because it looks like the chill is getting a bit too much to handle, especially for kairi, so hope leans back, makes to reach over to put an arm around her shoulders -- but he doesn't want to be weird or anything, so before that: ]

Um. Do you - do you mind?

As far as I know, that's the only way, if you're going by way of Gummi ship. Maybe the King will be able to figure something out, though.

[She seems to shift easily into his position adjustment, but when he pauses to ask first, her cheeks take a pink tint onto them and she looks away, attempting to pass it off as the cold with a quiet cough.]

Not at all, Hope.

[Snugglecuddle oh man he's so warm, she is absolutely okay with this.]

[ he nods in understanding, and gently wraps one arm around kairi's shoulders to pull her in close, reaching over to snag edge of the blanket with his free hand and tug that over, too. if they both can't be snug and warm then he's making sure at least one of them damn well is. ]

That better?

[... Well that's not fair, because he needs to be warm too, okay. So she snuggles closer so that way she can try to share her own warmth with him. She looks up at him and nods, nose accidentally brushing against his jaw.]

Mmhm, but are you okay?

[ hope starts a little at that, but after reflexively clearing his throat in mild discomfort he recovers quickly enough, holding kairi close while he takes this chance to crane his neck for a view out the window at the status of the blizzard they'd been caught in. it's considerably lighter, or so he thinks, but it's yet to let up.

he turns back to kairi then, nods and smiles. ]

I'm fine. Don't worry about me.
