Cuckoo Nest: The premise of the Cuckoo Nest plot is that a character is convinced that they are in an insane asylum (a Bedlam House is a popular choice), where they are told that the events of the series are actually hallucinations. -tvtropes
Post in with your character name, canon, etc., along with a brief description of how your character would end up committed and any diagnoses.
The Hospital
1. Your first time "waking up". How do you react to it? Firm denial? Or does it maybe make a little too much sense?
2. Time to meet your friends. Or are they? Are these really the people you know and love, or are they just the templates you used to imagine your friends?
3. Time to go exploring. That huge corporation that's been haunting your every move? Yeah, that's the cafeteria. Fortress of Solitude? Blanket fort. At least it's still pretty kickass.
4. Time to talk to your doctor! Maybe, between the two of you, you can work out a solution for your, er, problems.
5. Time to see your loved ones. Is someone dead in your reality but alive here? Maybe that person you've always had your eye on but never reciprocated is actually your spouse? Every Cuckoo Nest needs a Lotus-Eater Machine thrown in.
Reality(?)
6. Well, you're back. Everything's fine, right? But it's a little hard to shake that feeling that maybe this isn't quite.... real.
7. Your friends are starting to notice you're acting detached, weird. How are you going to explain this?
8. Maybe you should go do a little soul-searching, try to figure things out. No one will mind if you disappear from your responsibilities without explanation, right?
In-Between
9. You're starting to flash between realities now. Talking to friends, talking to your therapist... everything's starting to get muddled. How well are you keeping everything straight? Or are you at all?
10. It's now or never. You have to do something drastic to let go of this reality and make the leap to the really real one. How do you do it? And which one do you choose?

He was institutionalized after insisting at school that he was the Avatar and he was trapped in the spirit world. He has since been diagnosed with depression, as he will go through periods where he curls up in his bed and does nothing, and then others where he plays along with whatever the doctors say--except whenever someone tries to give him medication, which he always refuses.]

But that didn't mean he couldn't miss his friends. He'd liked them enough to try playing superheroes with them once. So why give up on them now?
It was lunchtime, and Eli took a chance by sitting across the table from Billy. Maybe this would be a good day for him.]
Hey.... B? You doing okay today?

fellow inmate, starting 2/3ish
Unfortunately, he's not good at cowed and harmless, and here all his schemes seem to fall apart. He's forever making just the tiniest comment or suggestion to another inmate, and then they do something ludicrous and somehow it always ends up being his fault. And claiming it's because he's the God of Mischief usually gets him extra time away from the other inmates for being unable to play nice, extra therapy sessions, and occasionally new and interesting drug combinations.
He's just finished another period of isolation, in the slightly foggy mental state that follows them upping the dose on whatever they have him on now, when he spots Billy, and he can't resist saying hello. He's not supposed to, something about folie à deux, but no-one's watching right now so it can't hurt, surely. He saunters over, a little more carefully than usual thanks to that foggy feeling, and smiles.]
Hello again, master Kaplan. And how are things with you today?
[It's a very cautious question, just in case Billy's gone and gotten himself... "cured"]

The stranger walked into the art therapy room, businesslike and a bit abrupt, with a bizarre mellifluous accent. His pristine starched white lab coat was unbuttoned and long enough that it nearly reached his ankles, and underneath it he wore an expensive suit and tie. Tossing his clipboard aside with a clatter onto one of the gouged and marker-stained tables, he turned an ugly orange plastic chair around so he could sit in it, facing his patient, finally making eye contact.
"Well? Go on, then."

So instead Judas stares out the window of the common room when the new guy comes through, watching him vaguely. Good looking guy, looks healthy, clean... What's up with him?
He shrugs slightly and stretches out. That first view had been two, three days ago. Maybe. Days tend to blur together in here. But the window is a tiny place to watch the world outside, through a lot of bars and walls. At least the sun hits him, and it's easier to feel the warmth than deal with his problems or the still healing bruises around his throat.

Tony Stark - Armored Adventures - OTA
Diagnosis:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Delusions
Narcissism]
I'm going to assume a Stark still helped with the procedure
SHIELD had helped make sure that Steve's visit wouldn't be reported to Stane and had reassured the doctors that he was a friend that should be allowed to see Tony. That knowledge doesn't make the situation any less awkward. Letting out a sigh, he waits for Tony to be escorted to the room that the doctors had set aside for their visit, hoping that the meeting goes better than he's anticipating.]

erwin smith | shingeki no kyojin
no subject
he'd heard the news from hange, first: "at least he's not dead, right?", she'd said, morbidly optimistic as usual. placid, levi'd given her a once-over, trying to gauge her reaction, before turning away and going in the opposite direction of the infirmary.
(he'd ignored the way her voice shook just slightly, the tension in her shoulders, because that'd been the best anyone could have hoped for— at the very least, erwin didn't come back as just an arm. levi would have had more reason to be more emotive, if that'd been the case.)
a few days later, and his preliminary meeting with erwin and the others is almost exasperating in how normal erwin seems to be: shrewd, quick, unnerving. the same erwin smith, utilitarian extraordinaire. levi is almost relieved, really, if admitting that didn't seem like a losing battle.
he sticks around after the others leave, ignoring a halfhearted warning from hange that erwin needs his rest, and settles back in his chair, fixing his usual blithe gaze at his 'commanding officer'. ]
You look like shit.
[ leave it to levi to not be able to be delicate about anything. ]
