The Playground Meme

Most of us can remember the playground from our younger days. Swings, slides, monkey bars, merry-go-rounds and all manner of other things to play on and fall off of. Well here's another playground to enjoy. A big, brand new one filled with all those fun things you remember and new ones too. Are you a kid enjoying a day running around or maybe someone older trying to recapture youth? Either way, have fun! And don't worry, parents. There are benches under some nice shady trees to relax on.

[This kid clearly doesn't know how to play on any of this stuff. So he's just sitting on the highest point of the playground, watching everyone else play. He walked up there. Straight-up walked.]

The man is totally unreliable. So Andrew is going to bounce a tennis ball off the side of some playground equipment. With other kids around he feels safe just hanging out. ]

It was an interesting thing a playground. To one child it may be a castle fortress where one might live out their fantasies of defending a castle siege from enemy combatants. To another it may be a training ground where one might prepare themselves for whatever obstacle they might face, whether it be climbing the monkey bars or climbing up the slide rather than sliding down it. Or perhaps it was just something to to give you that bit of an adrenaline rush. At one point or another Lance felt like he'd been a kid who had played all of these scenarios out on a jungle gym... although a wooden one, not a plastic one like this. Times were always changing weren't they? No doubt the generations before him must have thought his spoiled for even having the wooden jungle gyms and metal swings and see saws.

So why was he here? Lance wasn't really sure himself. Perhaps it was to recapture a youth long lost, perhaps it was to contemplate his life and the course of his future, or perhaps it was simply to wax poetic. Whatever the case he couldn't help but be drawn to the swings, remembering the days when he longed to fly in the sky like a true dragon master. He could remember it like it was yesterday, swinging on the swing with his dratini, telling it of all the adventures they'd have together when they were just a little more grown up. He'd certainly had his share of adventures, he had become a pokemon master and champion of the Elite Four. He'd even witnessed the rise and fall of himself as a pokemon league champion more than once. Perhaps therein lay his problem? He seemed to no longer have the drive or goal to strive for that he once did.

Lance sat on one of the swings, letting his cape pool on the cedar chips on the ground behind him. He remembered swinging on these swings to try to reach for the sky, to fly into the air as high as he could go. Yet after having flown in the sky on the back of his dragonite, could a swing really even compare anymore?

"Heh... I wonder if I'm prematurely becoming a tired old man."

[Don't mind this little guy here. Lambda has never had much of a chance at being a kid, let alone play with others. No, the adults were too afraid of what he could do, what he was.

So here is this shy, quite, and pale kid just watching Armin from the side of the sandbox. If Armin catches him staring he will simply continue, he knows nothing of being ashamed and everything of simply being curious.]

[While Yotsuba wasn't really familiar with playgrounds and everything in them, one could find her having a grand time on the slides, laughing as she slid down before climbing back up to the top of them and going down again. Of course, she wouldn't always look before she slid, so anyone who got too close faced the risk of being knocked into.]

[Ame wasn't really close enough to get knocked over, but he was watching Yotsuba as she went up and down it over and over again.

Perhaps he's too hesitant to ask her for a turn.]

Hmm? [ Probably just some other kid, even if a chill had run up his spine at the thought that his memories might’ve jumped out of his head and taken to mocking him lately. Aoba’s probably already home from work by this time, and the sun’s setting and he should get back too, maybe even nudge Beni out of sleep mode so they can navigate their way home but he’s…curious, and he edges around the playpen, peering out from behind a slide to this swingset and—

And then his heart nearly gives out then and there, for who else could be that lone kid sitting all by his lonesome on a swing with only his mullet to keep him company?

He's excited, he wants to show Rem and his brother just how brave he is! He'll make them proud by getting all the way to the top! And all the way too the top is just where he gets with the laughter of victory!]

Wow! I can see the whole playground from up here! I gotta get Knives up here!

Dinking around a park was one of Gamzee's more favored things to pass the time in his days off, and usually it was spent hanging upside down from the jungle gym. As he meandered slowly over towards it, he noticed that he was not alone in that simple joy; there was a young boy on top. But as he got closer, the over-tall, underfed gray guy with horns noticed that he looked more scared than mirthful.

"Yo, little bro, you okay up there?" Asked Gamzee, head tilted and a pleasant enough smile on his face -- outside of the painted one. He swiftly pulled himself up through two of the bars and plopped himself right beside the little boy with a smile. "Ain't bad up here at all. Pro'ly could see all up an' clear 'cross town if it wasn't for them trees over there."

[ Gai, the other genin would argue, goes about things the wrong way. When a teacher scolds him, instead of laughing it off, he goes off and runs hundreds of laps as some kind of penance. When they have a party, he has to make everything a competition instead of just enjoying himself like a normal person. Gai is a difficult person to hang out with. He can't even play correctly.

Hanging upside down on the monkey bars, he's doing... well, they're not exactly sit-ups. Hang-ups, more like. The drops of sweat sliding down his nose have started to leave their mark in the sand underneath him, but he shows no sign of letting up as the kids around him shriek in excitement, slide down slides, push each other on the swings, laugh, chat, enjoy themselves...

Gai has no time to do any such thing! Not if he wants to become the greatest ninja ever - the greatest ninja, in order to protect everyone!! ]
