It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they? i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note the name and fandom in the subject). • Other people reply to you by generating a number from 1 to 10. • Have fun! o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

[ sherlock wouldn't usually stand for how long they drive out of london. london is his lifeblood; the city is alive, a pulse he can always check.

but some nights, sherlock doesn't sleep. most nights, since he's come back and john's been married. nights string together, accumulating. sherlock doesn't notice, except for passing remarks to his skull about length of hair and the staleness of bread.

some nights, sherlock needs to be driven away from the florescent pulse of his city. some nights, it's a choice between depressants or stimulants— it's going to be one, and everyone knows which sherlock would choose. so sherlock's friends make the choice for him. lestrade tells mycroft, and mycroft texts john, and john calls jane, and jane texts mrs. hudson, and somehow that all translates to sherlock finding himself in a car that's pulling off to the side of an abandoned road in the middle of the unmarked countryside.

[ Later, after the two girls, after a stream of people follow and Quantico sends Natasha again (that girl, they say, the one who was taken when she was just a kid, she grew up strange — unnatural, but good at her job). Law enforcement supposedly two steps away from criminality and all. Debatable, whether Natasha — Agent Romanoff — knows about her reputation and it's right, or she chooses to act that way on purpose.

It's been a long investigation. Months and months, and finally they get a name. Eddie Ash, all the churchgoers say. He blessed us, and the Devil took us. (Natasha sees children strung up in trees, eyes milky-white for a reason they can't explain. Women turn up with bleeding red stumps for feet.

She doesn't bat an eyelash.)

It's about two in the morning when she knocks on his motel room door. Maybe she can hear the television, as quiet as it is, through the thin wooden walls; maybe she's just scarily intuitive. ]

[The weather has been unseasonably hot and even after the sun sets, Steve can't seem to shake the stifling heat that seems to follow him wherever he goes. He tosses and turns inside his tent for an hour or two before giving up and making his way outside.

There's a small breeze, but even it is more warm than cool. He moves through the camp, checking in on his men. Mentally checking supplies until he comes to the edge of it where they've set up a makeshift air strip landing. He can see Stark's plane and a tell-tale light underneath it.

Looks like he's not the only one not sleeping. He makes his way towards the plane, putting a hand on it's side.]

Chuck couldn't sleep. It wasn't an uncommon thing these days. The closer they got to what had been dubbed Operation Pitfall, the less the Aussie actually found he was able to settle; the need to be doing something productive was almost impossible to ignore.

So he trained. He worked on Striker, perfecting what he could. And then he trained some more.

Even if it was two AM and he really should have been in bed.

[He'd been back in New York for two days. The first had been spent listening to Tony talk and fighting a massive case of jet lag and the second had been spent thinking about her.

Not that thinking about her was unusual. There weren't many days where she didn't cross his mind at one point or another, but this was the first time that he'd been so close without the threat of world domination bearing down upon him. He had crawled into bed with the intention of taking advantage of the extravagant room Tony had provided him with, namely that ridiculously inviting mattress, but that had been hours ago and there had been no sleep to think of.

He glanced at the clock and then picked up his phone. It was another few minutes before he could make his fingers move, however. When the phone began to ring, he immediately had to fight the urge to hang up.

Sleeping on the floor in a living room wasn't entirely disagreeable though its comfort could be disputed against the idea of laying out in the grass while ants crawled into the person's hair. With some blankets laid out on the floor, it was almost considered a luxury and not linked to why Ion was blinking up at the ceiling. The ceiling? Yes, it didn't go away simply because it was dark.

He remained on his back, not even turning his head to assure that he wasn't alone. The other, who he saw before he fell asleep, was capable of taking care of himself. But it would be careless to assume it was all the same. Being wary of the matter of existence and the threat some stronger force imposed was enough to make one want to go back to sleep.

And yet a noise broke the silence that whatever time at two in the morning had to offer.

Ion's stomach was tearing the fabric of his train of thought. It wasn't anywhere nearly that dramatic but with not being too sure over being able to sleep or not, anything was multiplied a few times over to make it much more of a bigger ordeal. And he would give into that, slowly sitting up and rubbing his hand against his face. Ignoring the fact that he never changed into his pajamas and yet had lost his sock along the way, Ion was soon up on his feet.

Quiet steps to the kitchen.

But he needed to consider investing in night vision.
