Dreams are difficult enough to understand. They range from embarrassing, to frightening, to thought-provoking, to just plain nonsensical. You may find yourself wondering what that was all about, or trying to forget about it as quickly as you can. It may be close enough to reality to confuse you, or dream logic may prevail. Whatever the case, the world of dreams is a way to delve into your psyche and deal with what happened to you that day, your fears, and whatever's on your mind.

Except... what's that person doing there? This isn't their dream.

1. sweet dreams
Something like this might not happen too often in your waking life, if ever. You've found the world's largest supply of grape ice cream, you've won the lottery... or, perhaps, you're just having a really good day. Will this person share in your joy or ruin it for you?

2. nightmares
Your worst fears are being visited upon you tonight. Whether it's falling, losing those closest to you, insects, or something particular to you, there's no doubt you'd wake up in a cold sweat if everything went normally. Having this person there isn't 'normal', though. Maybe they can make things better.

3. sexy dreams
Isn't it so awkward when the person you're in bed with suddenly asks why you're dreaming about them in a schoolgirl costume?

4. bizarre dreams
It's hard to categorize this, but it probably seems perfectly natural to you that you need to find the smallest grain of sand in the world to stop an alien invasion up until someone points out how weird that is. And maybe it still seems normal to you even after that. They might be the ones being silly!

5. memories
The mind often revisits important events in one's life. For good or bad, you're back in time, reliving something that stuck in your head. But... that guy wasn't here before, was he? Or maybe he was, but hasn't seen it from your point of view yet.

6. prophetic dreams
A dream of your future. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it something you would even want another person to witness?

7. violent dreams
Whether you want to or not, you're hurting the person you're in bed with. Isn't that going to be a little hard to explain?

8. combination/other
Dreams are many and varied. Mix up the flavors, or try something completely different. Wherever your mind will take you is game.

A ball, although the setting was admittedly... strange. Outdoors, in the castle's gardens... beautiful flowers all about, drooping from the archways and blooming from the ground around the pathways. There were so many people- in fact, the place was nearly overcrowded, with platters of chocolate delicacies and refreshments galore, a huge chocolate fondue fountain in the center of all the action.

And there was Anna- fluttering about, chattering to a group of strangers like they were best friends- soon sneaking towards the chocolate fondue... it was late evening, the sun setting beautifully on the horizon. She was wearing a beautiful ballroom gown, a stunning shade of blue that perfectly matched her eyes- skirts flowing about as she picked up a stick, spearing a strawberry and moving to dip it into the chocolatey fountain... ]

[He knows that Destiny Islands isn't one of the worlds that fell asleep, yet Riku also knows that he isn't in the waking world. There's no other way to explain the fact that he's watching himself from more than ten years ago.

He vaguely remembers this moment - really, he only knows that he'd spoken to someone who definitely wasn't from the Islands. What they had talked about had faded from memory over the years, so it's surprising to hear it again now.

"If he starts wandering down a dark path alone, make sure to stay with him and keep him safe..."

He laughs a little to himself, albeit bittersweetly. How could she have known that was what he needed to do? He wonders if that was even the conversation, or if his mind's just playing tricks on him. It could very well be the latter. Fairly sure that he's just viewing a memory of some sort, and has not actually ventured into the past, Riku settles on the bridge to watch himself and Sora run off toward the dock.]

Things were a lot simpler back then, huh.

Izumo'd dreamed this before. He often did. Reliving assassinations was just part and parcel of being a ninja...spy and assassin under the arm of the Japanese yakuza. But this time, when he leaned back, dragging his dagger from the American senator's throat, there was a strange face in the room. Izumo blinked at him, calm and limpid, and absently licked the hot blood off his lips as it ran down his face.

"Well. I don't usually dream about you," he said, because it was hard not to know the face: millionaire and hero, and Izumo kept up with the news. Shifts of political influence were his specialty, after all.

Tony Stark. Well. At least he was certainly attractive...

The body under him twitched and Izumo turned back to the dead woman, his jaw-length black hair swaying. "Ah, gods, it's gonna be one of these dreams. I hate it when they won't die." Because he hated the killing in the first place - but a job was a job, and Izumo slit her throat again. Tony Stark...well that was a new addition, he didn't think the woman in question had any connection...eh, he'd probably fallen asleep watching the news again, that was why he knew he was dreaming. Half-awake, not awake enough, too tired asleep to rouse himself. Hell.

He'd probably wake up screaming in a little bit, because these were always the worst nightmares.

Hannibal Lecter doesn't dream.

Nothing he recalls, anyway. He's built a bottleneck of memories behind him, separating him from when he used to remember his dreams - back when it was the repetition of a half-memory, set to cycle until it fixed itself. But it had been beyond repair, shredded and burnt, and recovering it had solved nothing...except that circle.

Broken, left behind him. He doesn't dream anymore. The only situation his mind conjured was himself, at work, while he slept - useless projections and symbolism that, comfortable with, he forgot upon waking.

Many things can trigger memories, though. Scent, especially. The knowing that someone else is in his house lets someone into his dreams - the sense of growing close to someone makes his chest aware of the chill there. He doesn't know how to analyze it, because Hannibal keeps his own secrets even from himself. He owns what he can, and makes sure what he can't touch is not harmful to him.

So it's mostly a mystery, perhaps, as to what causes it. But tonight, Hannibal's clicking, mechanically precise dreamscape of rotted trees and well-oiled machines is frozen solid. He's adrift in snow, stumbling through overgrowth that's half-dead with winter's chill. His breath hangs in the air in unnatural pants, approaching the cabin. Don't go in. Don't go in.

He can't not go in.

Inside is no one - he turns to leave, stumbles over two small forms on the floor. He jerks away from himself, his (Mischa) sister, rocks around to face the door again, sees it already being pressed open. He trips and his chin hits the wooden floor, fingers scrabbling ahead in his sight as he watches a golden head of hair walked out (Mischa), soothed with a mocking song

It's three hours past midnight and Alastair is so getting interrogated in the morning. He had fallen asleep against Ariadne unknowingly, jerking awake in an internal signal of alarm once his body's clock realized how much time it had let slip. He finished dressing on the sprint back to the mansion, thinking of what entrance he should use to generate the least noise possible.

Unfortunately, the exterior kitchen door (facing the east, as well as Hannibal's immaculate vegetable and herb garden some yards away) has been secured. Alastair is smart, and knows not to risk setting off some sort of enchantment. After proving his home's weakest points, Hannibal had made some...security modifications that Alastair pretends he doesn't know about.

The second floor balcony door is never set with a curse, this Alastair knows as he scales the house's north-bearing face. Slow and careful, he utilizes a wooden frame built against this side of the building, where ivy blooms healthy in summer. It is Marpenoth now, two months since Alastair's birthday, and the plant now is a decayed brown on wilted stems.

The balcony is an extension of the library that Hannibal keeps, where Alastair studies history, geography, and the arcane. The teen maneuvers through the dark room by memory, feeling his coat brush gently against furniture. The door was left open, even more convenient for him. At the threshold is where Alastair slips his boots off, leaving them on the woven rug that so kindly suffocated any sound his footsteps might have caused -- because now, he enters the long hallway, where a wooden floor makes all of the subtle echoes in this giant home.

Alastair has to pass Hannibal's room before he can reach his own, and he stalks cautiously through the inky veil laid over every inch of the hall. A soft sound gives him momentary pause to determine what he must have done to cause it...but he realizes that they grow louder the closer to Hannibal's door he grows.

And it doesn't take him very long, lingering in front of Hannibal's door, to realize that it's his elder's voice making all of that ruckus. Alastair notes the lack of light spilling from underneath his door, and pressing his ear to the wooden barricade assures him that there seems to be no secondary presence -- female, or male. (Hey, he won't judge.)

Mischa.

Alastair's brows twitch into each other, both curious and concerned. There isn't even enough time to second-guess the notion before he pushes the door in to peek his head inside. There are movements, lazy and stiff, from underneath the covers, but even in the dull evening light, Alastair can tell that the bed contains only one person. Well, that's kind of a relief.

But that doesn't tell Alastair anything about what is happening in Hannibal's bed. Frowning, he leans further into the room that smells faintly of clove, pepper, and old books. What are you doing, Hannibal...?
