Ahh, what a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the flying animals of your choice are making their noises, and the sky is, presumably, as blue as can be. Finally, a break from this awful weather! And you know what else? It's a perfect day for a picnic with your honey (or hopefully soon to be honey). There's nothing quite as romantic as a well-executed picnic, so if you want to make an impression or just have a good time, break out the food under the shade of a tree. The best part is that a picnic can be as unique as you two are: a beautiful spread on top of a blanket, burgers grabbed from the drive-through and eaten with your legs dangling from the backseat, or a heart meal of venison one of you hunted while you sit on the bodies of your enemies. All that's required is to enjoy the food and the peaceful time together. Of course, just because the idea is romantic doesn't mean it has to play out exactly that way. Maybe this is your first date and both of you are worried about what will come next - or one of you doesn't realize this is a date. Maybe one of you was dragged here against your will. Hey, have you heard about that swarm of Africanized killer bees? I hope they don't ruin your day. Isn't that your romantic rival? They're challenging you to a duel? And who are those kids in that green van, screaming about ghosts...? Ahh, what a wonderful day for a picnic. HOW TO PLAY Comment with your character and preferences in the subject line. Izaya-san, I don't understand why we needed this entire list of "traditional picnic foods" just for the two of us.

[Mikado is a small boy. The picnic basket that he's carrying? It's enormous. The effect is rather ridiculous, and he very well may fall over. But it's not like he can ask Izaya to carry it, of course. Just like he hadn't protested when Izaya gave him the list.

He still needs the man, after all.]

[ while he didn't think about the fact that Mikado would have trouble lifting the thing, it should be natural that at a picnic, these are the kinds of things you pack. would Celty be making bento with onigiri with smiling faces for Shinra? what kind of traditional meal would Namie make for Seiji? it's all very important, and so is getting all of the right items for his own picnic.

That's not important. I could tell you the reason that I asked for those items in particular, but all you really need to know is that for appearances' sake, none of this will go to waste.

[The weather this week has been absolutely gorgeous. Gorgeous enough in fact that Shinra and Celty took their friends outside for a picnic lunch party instead of stuffing them all into the apartment, for once. It was probably a really lovely, fun, and ridiculously loud affair, with all the usual charm of a group made up of Ikebukuro's biggest personalities. Unfortunately, it also got talked about later in the usual chatroom. This led to a frankly terrible and tasteless conversation that ended in Izaya declaring that the regulars of his "office" were meeting outside the next afternoon.

And so here it is, the next afternoon. Only Saki sent Kida off by himself this morning, claiming she had someone to meet (and wasn't that unusual), and he's arrived to find that Namie'd ended up needed by her brother. So here he is, sitting awkwardly at the edge of the blanket holding a document envelope and contemplating developing a sudden stomach problem.]

...It's pointless with two people. Can we call it off now?

[ with that group of people enjoying the sun and fresh air and Izaya still cooped up inside the office, he'd gazed through his window from his chair and felt the beginnings of something strange taking ahold of his heart. it's probably jealousy, a childish realization of loneliness and so, not being invited to the party leaves him to conclude that it would be right to take advantage of the same agreeable weather rather than pine over what never could have been.

but things haven't gone quite as planned and he's been left alone with Kida by the fate of poorly timed circumstances. at least, that was the claim those who wouldn't be showing would try to make. still, he'd gone out of his way to move his appointments around to free up the afternoon. this should be better than nothing, right?

his voice is abruptly decisive, almost scolding. ]

No.

[ and then, very quickly, it's back to its usual tone. Izaya reaches out for the envelope. ]

You're not going to leave me all alone, are you? Everyone else backed out at the last minute, but I've cleared my schedule already, so it's not an easy obligation to turn away from.

[There's some strange guy watching her as she sits on her blanket waiting for her best friend to show up. What is this?]

[Who even knows what possessed him when he agreed to go out, but either way, they're out. A blanket has been spread on the ground beneath a flowering tree, and Mephisto is seated by it. A cup of peach blossom oolong tea is in his hands and he sips it quietly. Various types of sandwiches, a few different kinds of cookies, and fruits have been set out on the blanket.

There's also a few different types of tea available.

Lowering the cup, Mephisto looks over at Nill. It's still early spring, so even if flowers have began sprouting, there's a bit of a chill in the air. And he's a little concerned about that.] Are you cold? I wouldn't want you to fall ill.

[Is he the nicest guy? Hardly. He is however concerned for the people he does care about. And right now he cares about Nill being warm enough, and making sure she won't get sick.]

[ This is so much! Not in a bad way of it, only a way she isn't accustomed to. Right now, modesty has her feeling spoiled, but the correct term might be abundantly grateful. She's sitting primly, with a giddy stiffness, legs bent at the knees and curled close under her skirt. So far, she hasn't reached for anything because she's so preoccupied with the business of admiring it all, committing the imagery to memory.

'Wow,' is the word she's thinking of nearly as much as 'thank' and 'you,' and she can only hope she'll be able to display this. When he speaks, her attention diverts from the food-decorated blanket and places itself on him, chin tilted slightly, eyes vaguely wide with attentiveness.

The air is crisp, isn't it? And, she's slight, but she really hadn't considered it. Being that it isn't serious, she answers by way of a reassuring smile, and a polite shake of her head. Since no vocalization is able to come at all, her shoulders pitching upward a bit and her smile breaking loose with an empty hee is a way to ask if won't eating together this way be fun.

At that, she leans forward for a few blueberries, the small pair of wings at her upper-back very lightly stretching upward. ]
