Of course, you may feel worried and awkward. You could hurt them, couldn't you, if you're much bigger than them? They seem so delicate. What if you bite? You could get too excited, and then they'd never, ever want to see you again. Or, worst of all, what if you...you know...too soon?

It was Ritsuka's birthday and Soubi had painted him some memories. The camera was nice, but sometimes a more personal touch was necessary. So he'd put brush to paper, added imagination and memory...and now it was time to give them to Ritsuka.

His dear Ritsuka had grown in the years since they'd met. No less kind. No less cruel. Beautiful.

Soubi waited patiently for a quiet moment alone, letting everyone else wander off, then stepped up behind Ritsuka with a smile and presented the large folder, slipping one arm around the smaller man's waist to just hold him.

"Make a wish, Ritsuka." Just a whisper in an ear.

Parties weren't his favourite thing. But his friends had wanted to have a party. So he'd smiled and let them have their fun. At least Soubi had come. He nearly jumped when Soubi came up behind him, but he took the folder and peeked inside it.

"Um...I don't know what to wish for."

He looked at the paintings and smiled. Soubi always knew exactly what he wanted.

Anything that had to do with Ritsuka was worth effort. And making sure the other was happy, that was all the better. Soubi leaned forward enough to rest his chin on Ritsuka's shoulder, spying that precious smile and knew he'd done well. He lived for Ritsuka. For that smile. For any sharp word or order. Anything.

"Anything," he breathed. "Anything I can give, I will."

His other arm slipped around to fully encircle Ritsuka's slim waist.

He shivered and turned his head so that he could see Soubi's face. His arms were getting goose bumps and his eyes flicked around. It looked like everyone else was busy. So maybe it wouldn't be noticed if they slipped away.

"I uh..." Damn it, Soubi always made him so flustered. And the older man hardly had to do anything.

"I still have my ears."

Just as all Ritsuka had to do was exist and be thinking of him. That was all Soubi needed.

The quiet, hesitant words earned a slow blink and he tilted his head a little, feeling his heart do a little flip at the mere suggestion. No one was watching.

"Do you want me to change that?"

Nodding quickly his tail wrapped around Soubi's leg. If he thought about it anymore he might chicken out. Turning around in Soubi's arms, he kissed him, cheeks very red. This wasn't the first time he'd thought about it. But he had been a little scared to ask. He didn't want Soubi to say no. And then there was the fact that he was almost 10 years younger than Soubi. It wouldn't have been right to ask him for this before now.
