[Natsuru's been convinced for a while now that 'lessons' in 'using their charms to their advantage' is just Souko's code for finding new ways to tease and embarrass her. Not that believing that has helped at all. She still can't bring herself to say no to her.

Naturally, it was Souko's idea that Natsuru should live with her in the first place. After all, there were so many things that she just couldn't teach her by going out places together. Of course, Natsuru would have to take care of her share of the chores, and help out wherever she could in return for her friend's generosity. It all sounded very sensible.

It never really seemed to occur to her that everything she was agreeing to (some of which she even found herself suggesting to Souko in the first place!) walked a very fine line between 'considerate house guest' and 'live-in maid'. Souko could probably push for the latter if she really wanted to. Or she could find other ways to tease and play with her friend, now that they'll be living under the same roof. ... Or both. The poor girl is pretty much entirely at Souko's mercy now.

Oblivious as she is to the possibilities, even Natsuru herself can't shake a strange feeling of unease and maybe a little anticipation? She's always lived on her own, so this is a big change, even a day or two in. But she really does enjoy Souko's company, or else the other girl wouldn't find it nearly as easy to talk her into doing just about anything.

Just like last night, Natsuru wakes early and gets out of bed. She doesn't bother getting dressed just yet. She just paces through the hall barefoot, wearing a nightgown Souko had given her, until she arrives at the kitchen. She could probably use some tea... and maybe she could make some for Souko, too? But it's been the right way to go about the intimacy between them. It's been earned--the quiet stolen moments with Susan, the desperate pleas to Lucy, the tactical conversations with Edmund; the physical struggles for worthiness in Peter's eyes. It had been an upright and open courtship. It had been whispered about with increasing approval as each piece fell slowly into place.

[ They'd paraded Raleigh around enough on her own. Mako's been out and about with her for a few runs. They love showing those two off. They only write stories about Chuck. He thinks they're scared of what he's going to say if they actually put him in front of a camera. Chuck's not the most eloquent and he has a history of beating his own chest for the crowds to enjoy. He's not their poster boy for the end of the kaiju. Raleigh is. Technically speaking. She's the well spoken one they're gonna milk. Mako has the some quiet eloquence, but she's not as good with the press as Raleigh is. Raleigh hates people, but she's a damn good smiler when you tell her to.

It's Chuck's turn now. They trust he's recovered enough mentally and emotionally from the detonation. It's not an easy thing to do. You look right at death and you just accept it. Chuck didn't think he'd make it out. He thought he'd die at the bottom of that ocean when he kissed Max's head. He made sure to get one last look at his father before he went. Chuck wanted to return, but he never had any hope of doing so. They want to make sure his mentality is straight before they parade him out there. They don't want him to shatter in front of a live audience. They're delicate and handle him with kid gloves the entire time. Chuck couldn't care less. ]
