Listening to him talk is as good a distraction as any, and so she latches on to his question so that she doesn't have to think about the itch between her shoulder blades.]
Yes, it really isn't so bad. Definitely no worse than the boughs of a tree.

[He feels a lot more exhausted than he thought he was, now he is lying down, his leg blissfully painless and his body thankful for the rest after the strain imposed by the injury.] Or underneath the rain...

She allows herself to reach out and brush a lock of hair off of his face, smiling gently at him.]
There is something peaceful about the rain, though. [It is soothing and quiet, just like the way she pitches her voice.] When it does not fall on your head.

I agree. It is indeed when it falls on our heads when we want to sleep that it becomes a hindrance. If I'm indoors, I don't mind it at all.
[He ponders for a moment.] Frankly if I am indoors I don't mind much of anything. I will sleep through laughter, singing and any loud celebration.

[She's quiet for a little while, just watching him silently, before she feels like perhaps she should offer up something as well, since they're lying here like children sharing secrets in the dark.] ...I am the opposite. Unless I am well and truly tired, of course. Then I could sleep through the end of the world.

The forest must be a kind place for you to live in, then. [Or it would be, normally. He is not so sure the place is so kind and welcoming to anyone anymore, as it seems to have been taken over by darkness.] But I think at this moment we could all sleep through the end of the world.

Yes, it does feel that way, doesn't it. [She stifles a yawn, gritting her teeth and squeezing her eyes shut for a moment.] Let us hope it does not come to that.

[He spares a glance at her, smiling tiredly.] Sleep well, Tauriel... [He sighs and repeats, a little more softly.] Tauriel.

[Abruptly, she remembers his ramblings of before when she first found him, lying pale and injured on the kitchen table. Do you think she could have loved me? rings in her ears, and she can feel her cheeks flushing.
Tentatively, she shifts a little closer and curls her fingers in the fabric of his sleeve, just gently holding on.] And you.
