the "you're all I know" meme

an amnesiac shipping meme

You have no idea who you are.
One day, you just woke up from the darkness, confused and alone. You barely remember your own name, much less why you're here...or where here is, even. Your own body is strange to you, and if you have some kind of power or ability, that must be frightening. Perhaps you're angry at everything so new and different, lost in this strange world you don't understand or know your own place in. Maybe you feel the need to hide away, lest you be crushed by everyone out there who is sure to hurt you.
You are so, so alone.
Only you're not. There is one person, one person who's found you and taken you in. They've shown you kindness, looking after you while you can barely look out for yourself. Out of the goodness of their heart, they've shown you things, taught you things. Most importantly, they're giving you a new sense of identity. And for that, you've begun to appreciate them. More than words can say, actually. You care for them so deeply that your heart hurts around them. Is that normal? What is this feeling? You can't imagine life without them, and leaving them- That's something you could never consider. Is this lov...
The word's on the tip of your tongue, but you can't figure it out, exactly. What you can figure out is that you want to give everything you can to the person who's done so much for them. You want to stay by their side and make them happy. You want to protect them at all costs.
So no one would blame you for getting confused when you see them with someone else or getting angry when you believe they're in danger. And certainly it's only natural for you to get frustrated when you want to tell them what you think of them, what they mean to you, and you can't figure out what to do. Perhaps following instincts will do?
One thing you know is that this bond and these emotions will never go away, not even when you learn who you are.
RULES
- This meme is for examining what happens when someone with no memories, potentially someone with powers or skills that could be dangerous at the very least, develops deep feelings for the person who's taken them in or is helping them realize their past. It can be played as awkward, adventurous, tragic, cracky, fluffy, truly romantic, or anything in between. You can play at the beginning, the part where emotions have strongly developed, or even when the amnesiac has regained their memories and must now deal with new feelings.
- Reply with your character and preferences. Mention if you'd like to play the amnesiac, the caretaker/help, or both.
- The role of caretaker does not have to always be beneficial. Maybe they caused this condition in the first place so the other character would be dependent, loving, and loyal towards them.
- Reply to others and play.

What else could make someone just lose everything they knew? No physical injury. Shock? Trauma? Reno didn't have a clue.
He bypassed the main road into Edge, wanting to avoid any chance of running into Cloud's old friends as much as he could. A few minutes more and they'd arrived at... well, Reno called it home. When the entire town was made of scrap and salvage, he didn't think he had to justify anything.
no subject
The town they drove through wasn't that familiar to him; he didn't recognize street names and people that they passed. It was kind of an ugly beast of a city by his measure. Where were all the trees and stuff?
He didn't realize they were where they were supposed to be until the vehicle stopped and made no attempt at moving again. "We're... at your place?" A dumb question even by his measure, and he opened the door and stepped out to look around.
no subject
When he finally did park and exit the vehicle, he stretched with a small sigh. He shot Cloud a sour look instinctively before he realized it was actually a legitimate question. "Ain't much, but it's more 'n some people got."
"Whole city's been built from the ground up with salvage we've taken from Midgar," Reno explained as he unlocked his door and let Cloud inside. "Whatever we can use, plus anythin' donated from surroundin' cities. Ugly as hell, but it works."
no subject
He was looking around the place and missed the sour look, not actually certain what to make the whole thing. Of course, the explanation had him nodding just toa agree because he had no memory to compare it to. "It keeps the rain off, which is important."
He followed Reno without reluctance since the other man was about as familiar as one without memories could get. He stepped inside and paused long enough to remove his boots like some gentleman before padding inside further. "How long has this city been here? It looks... well, newish."
no subject
"Only about..." He scratched his cheek as he thought. "Two years-ish, give'r take a few months. Lotta progress since Meteorfall, but still a lot t' do. Most a' what we're doin' now at Shinra, jus' cleanin' up an' rebuildin'. Resource management. Last thing we need 're more riots breakin' out over limited stuff."
He gestured over to his less-than-fluffy couch. "It'll be good t' have a SOLDIER on our side again. Keep a li'l order around here."
no subject
So ShinRa was rebuilding everything from the fall of Midgar? He couldn't think why anyone would riot if that was the case. Helping people sounded like a right thing to do in times like these.
He moved over to the couch and sat perched on the edge, looking around the room curiously. "Keep order? I can do that."
no subject
Without any sense of propriety or personal space, he leaned over Cloud and tilted the blonde's chin up. "Open 'em pretty blue eyes, SOLDIER boy." A few seconds of light in one, then the other, Reno watching the pupils intently before he clicked off the flashlight.
"Nn. Well, yer right, no concussion." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm gonna try 'n be optimistic here an' say that's a good thing, even if, y'know, still means I have no idea what happened t' ya or if you'll ever get yer noggin' on right."
He paused, realizing that wasn't exactly helpful. "But that's okay. Like y' said before -- we'll make new memories."
no subject
He sat still and did as he was instructed by lifting his head and staring straight forward. The light was annoying, but he tolerated it to see if it would show something useful as to why he was... well, the way that he was. Apparently no go though, and his head felt okay except when he thought of Zack, then it would hurt.
"I feel fine," he said simply. He absently tugged at the gloves on his hands as he went back to looking around. "It's... cozy here. I like it, I think."
no subject
Tossing the thin flashlight into another pile of old newspapers and skin mags (he'd find it again, eventually), he sank down to sit beside Cloud. "Cozy, huh? Wanna jus' stay forever?" He smirked, intending it as a joke... But then again, it wouldn't be the worst thing, either.
no subject
He shifted a little on the edge of the couch he had perched on, wondering how someone so... care-free could just flop around and still seem nice to a man with absolutely no memories. They obviously had a history. "Forever is a long time when I can't remember before two hours ago," he remarked dryly, relaxing a little bit and shuffling down the couch to settle in on it. "Aren't you afraid I might accidentally break stuff?"
no subject
Because who didn't use the internet for everything? When they had it...
"If I can live here an' not break shit, I think yer safe," he chuckled. How messy he was.
no subject
It was messy in here, and he figured he was probably a neat organized person himself. That was a military thing he figured; last time he had ever heard of military mess wasn't allowed. It got one extra push-ups or a kick to the ribs during those push-ups.
He turned his head to look at Reno. "It'd be nice to feel safe... but I'll try not to break your junk."
no subject
"Little bit a' both. Long hours, an' I ain't especially clean after." He kept things just manageable, and he'd throw things away when he was good and ready. "It bother you?"
no subject
He settled more into the couch, and with nothing better to do with his hands, he set them in his lap and allowed his eyes to walk the room for him. He wasn't especially caring to walk at this point. "No, it's... nice. Homely I guess. I don't remember my home, so it's nice to see someone else's."
no subject
"Just don't say 'homely' again," he laughed. "Makes me sound like some kinda old lady or somethin'."
Come to think of it, calm Cloud was kind of nice to be around. At least in comparison to angry Cloud, or murderous Cloud. Reno kind of hoped the blonde never got his memory back.
no subject
He reached out to flick at Reno's long hair and raised an eyebrow. "I thought mullets were out a long time ago," he said, though he actually didn't know and was obviously making it up. "Maybe you are old fashioned. I can call you 'granny' in private if you like it?" Teasing because the freedom to do so had never been there for him.
Sorry for the lateness!
Irreverently, disregarding any kind of social boundary, he mussed a hand through Cloud's hair. "The hell you talkin' about anyway, Chocobo-head? 'C stab someone with that shit..." He grinned.
"Somethin' interestin'? Shit..." Where to start? "Wait 'til ya meet Rude," he began, his grin widening. "He's got this whole... strong, silent type thing goin, but don't be fooled, he's great. We got this kinda friendly competition thing goin', from way back, go out t' the local bars an' see who can score the hottest chick. Sometimes I wonder if 'e lets me win, though."
He shook his head with a sympathetic smile. "Bless 'im, but his heart is always in the wrong place. Romantic. Always fallin' hard for the wrong ones, who end up bein' crazy. Nice tits, but crazy." The redhead paused, then smirked again as he looked Cloud over. "You should really come next time. Big blue eyes, ya might have a shot."
no subject
He blinked when the bridge between physical distance was crossed, and his hair was assaulted. His head bobbed with the musing and that too felt right, felt like something that had probably happened all too often. Almost instantly, he relented what guard he had left and relaxed. Clearly Reno had done this a lot on him. "My hair is soft; it just doesn't make sense," he pointed out evenly.
He shifted on the couch to the side of one hip and peered at Reno, listening to a story that really meant nothing to him. Yet, it was a glimpse into a world he might not have been apart of completely, but if what Reno told him was true, he could have been. He craved that connection suddenly, craved being part of something so simple as companionable contact, good laughs and... er, girls?
"I'll come if you want me too," he said almost shyly. "I doubt I'll attract anyone though, but that's fine. Being with you and seeing you have a good time is what I'd like. And meeting Rude."
no subject
It's only when his mind catches up to his rambling mouth that he realizes what else Cloud said. "Seein' me have a good time?" The redhead paused, taking everything in, before he sat back with a small smile.
"You don't really like girls much, do ya?" he asked softly.
no subject
He shuffled a little on the couch, trying not to look awkward... which just made him look more instead. "Yeah... you're helping me, so I want to see you happy in return." Even if it might involve him playing wing-man or something.
"I don't know. I don't remember any," he pointed out simply. "I like you, so what difference does it make if I like girls?"
no subject
He angled himself on the couch as well, turning to face Cloud more and slinging his arm over the back of the couch. "Doesn't really make a difference," he answered honestly. He didn't really care either way, and even if he asked it didn't sound like Cloud had much of an opinion of either sex.
Still, after a moment's thought, he was curious. "Whaddaya think of me?" he asked slyly.
no subject
"So there is no difference," he said slowly. "I guess whatever is likable is what I like."
He shifted on the couch to face Reno, curious but not certain about the question. He answered it the only way he knew how; honestly. "You saved my life; I owe you a debt that I intend to repay." He reached out and caught some of Reno's red hair, rubbing it between his fingers. "I think you're handsome enough, granny-boy." He smirked.
no subject
"Oh -- an' as for likin' what's likable?" He paused, then shrugged with a smile. "I kinda like that answer. Like what's likable."
So what if Reno had mentioned girls? They were great, no doubt, but most people at Shinra knew that Reno was pretty open when it came to his one-night stands. He liked what he liked, and Cloud could do whatever the hell Cloud liked, and the world was one big, beautiful, fucked up place to fuck. And he loved it for that.
"You wanna sleep in my bed tonight?" the redhead asked suddenly.
no subject
There was something about receiving praise for odd ideologies, so Cloud's expression brightened, not quite a smile but heading in that direction. He thought that he could get along really well with this man who had taken him in, and he was looking forward to working towards being something again. Who knows what he had been before.
At the sudden question, he curled some of Reno's hair around his index finger. "Better than sleeping on a couch," he said simply. "You don't mind an extra body in your bed?"
no subject
Before the blonde could worry too much, Reno grinned. "I never mind an extra body in my bed. Even a spiky li'l blonde who might be cuter 'n me."
