bad dreams are ordeals, sometimes seemingly endless. when you wake up, your heart pounds, your head hurts, and you end up drenched in sweat. even if you know none of it was real, it takes a while to orient yourself. it is pretty nice to have someone there to wake you up or to soothe you out of it and remind you that... it's only a dream. ••• the usual rules apply. post with your character and preferences and then tag around, have your characters comfort others.

So focused on his own thoughts, the first sounds from upstairs went unnoticed. But as Stiles' nightmares brought more sound to the waking world, Jackson took to the stairs. The dead of night should have been the most comfortable time by far in Javier's compound, time away from the open, hostile disdain of the other students, the bustle of dull chores that Petros could complete in seconds if he wished, or the aimless training apparently intended for children who had no notion of how to use their gifts. If he'd been able, Petros would have been outside the walls, no more frightened by the slow, gormless thunder lizards than the trees and stones. The New World held no danger for him, and there had to be more than waiting here, hoping the Inquisitor would return for them with some reasonable explanation for their abandonment with Javier's foolish brats.

But he didn't dare leave Wanda, even for a night. Her powers were far fiercer than any of theirs, or indeed his own, but protecting her was an impulse more deeply ingrained in him than any intellectual assertion could overpower. He wished that the other female student he had heard of weren't dead. He might be able to relent some if she had a companion, another voice to raise if any dared offer insult. But there was no one, and so he lingered outside her door, the few hours of sleep he needed long over, hand lingering on his sword and eyes riveted on the silent darkness as the minutes passed like hours.

And so of course he was at her side the moment he heard a sleepy cry. "Wanda?"

[It had been a good day. And as far as good days went it had been one of the better ones. Then again, the more time he spent with Quinn the easier it was for him to handle his shit. Or ignore it, really. Which wasn't good for either of them in the long run, because then nights like these happened where, at first, he dreamt of nothing. Nothing was never good. Nothing was silence and silence fed paranoid. And once paranoia set in it was only a matter of time.

At first it was muffled noise, imperviously angry, that slowly turned into whistles and foreign screams—orders being shouted between. That all ebbed into laughter and upbeat music, pats on the shoulder and admittedly undeserved 'thank you's. Outside his dream people ran down the hall outside his apartment, and when the echoing noise hit his ears it translated into circuit breakers overloading and lights popping off. Boys? A voice rang in his mind, one he hadn't thought of in a while. If you're out there, can hear me, listen up: Jed's entire body jerked at the recollection of a single, piercing gunshot that had his heart thundering.

I love you both... I hope you know that. Curling into his pillow, his breathing began thickening, turning shallow, especially when explosions started filling his headspace. What I'm gonna ask you to do may be very difficult . Automatic gunfire spattered between more shouting in a different foreign tongue and that familiar, fading voice of his father. But I want you boys... to do what I would do. Aside from a faint ringing, all Jed can hear is his own heavy breaths, his limbs too sore as he runs too slow across an open field that only seems to be elongating the harder he runs. I want you to go to war, the disembodied voice continues.

He trips, body jerking again as the wind gets pushed out of his lungs And stop his piece of shit! When he stands back up he's walking out of a room, entering a hall. He's not out of breath, the burn of adrenaline is dying down. In the real world a door slams and he hears it instead as the high-pitched shatter of glass beside his ear, and his father's voice is as clear as ever: Or die trying. Jed snaps up in bed with a ruffle of sheets and blankets, cocking the hand gun he pulls from under his pillow. There's a sheen of sweat on his forehead and his arms are trembling, his breath violent and irregular as he stares down the wall before him. He's frozen, eyes locked as his mind keeps reeling, ears straining in the silence that comes with it being the middle of the night.]

[ let it be known - stiles is well acquainted with nightmares, after the shit he's seen since scott was bitten. and he doesn't doubt the hales have their own special set of nightmares, with exception to maybe peter.

he's never, however, had to actually wake up a werewolf from a nightmare. so he's a little bit antsy, when he wakes up on the (cold, dammit derek you penny-pinching bastard) floor of the loft, and can hear cora moving on the couch.

he gets up, hesitating for just a moment about potential werewolf claws in his arms before he reaches out, trying to shake her shoulder. ]

Cora. Hey, dude, c'mon, wake up and stop chasing squirrels in your sleep.
