i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it
ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it
iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singin. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

[ Adam looked at her for a moment. After how she'd just propositioned him, romanticism was the last thing he expected to come out of her mouth. All the same, he shrugged. ]
It's complicated. There's some people you aren't supposed to fall in love with. And some where you can't help it.
[ But he can't be feeling that for Jules. That's not what this is, it can't be. If it is, then he's dealing with a whole new set of problems. ]
Stay away from love, Mia. Love gets you hurt, believe me. I've seen it.

Apparently to Adam too. That didn't surprise her, though. ]
Been hurt yourself, then? Or about to be?

I'm not stupid enough for that.
[ He'd never had a proper relationship in his life. Adam didn't even do dating. He went on dates often enough, but rarely with the same person more than once. If he was with a person more than once, it was always on the understanding that they were friends, and that the sex was just a benefit. It never came to mean anything more than that, and if ever he got the suspicion that the other person wanted more, he'd end it. Simple as that.
But it had never been the same for Jules. ]
My sister's like you, a romantic. You don't want to know the number of people I've left in the hospital for hurting her. So trust me. It ain't worth it, love. It doesn't last.

I said I believe in real love. Not falling in love with everyone you meet. I've never felt love for anyone I've been with so trust me. I don't get hurt.
no subject
Then why do you believe in it?
[ Adam lifted his eyebrows, looking at her with genuine curiosity. ]
If you've never even felt it, why don't you think that it's all just bullshit?
no subject
[ She shrugs her shoulders. ] Besides. Kind of sad not to believe in love.
no subject
Because it's not an emotion.
[ Adam frowned at her, folding his arms. ]
That's part of it, but it's more than that. It's a roiling pit of stupid feelings all bungled into one, and along with that you've got other stupid shit like loyalty and belonging and faithfulness. It's more like an obsession than a feeling. I think it exists, but I think that's all it is. I don't reckon it's anything special. That's all.

You're a barrel of sunshine. Whoever your someone special is they must be real lucky to get a gentleman like you.

[ Adam caught the napkin, but his expression was distinctly unhappy. He shrugged. ]
I never claimed to be a catch. Suppose I’ll see you around, Tish. I’ll be in touch.

Will do.
[ Adam left money on the table for their drinks, made sure the phone was in his pocket, and headed on out. Her words about love stuck in his head. He couldn’t really clear them, but he’d be walking home. He’d try to drown them out on the way. ]
