She had heard all sorts of things about the enigmatic and, frankly, strange Mr. Holmes. He had been polite as they got into the carriage but silence was what had accompanied them ever since the horses were commanded into motion. Joan sat on one side, tucked into a corner of the carriage, Mr. Holmes on the other side. She kept her hands folded in her lap and continued to gaze out the window.

Normally, she was fine with quiet people. Normally, she didn't have to initiate the conversation or struggle to find a way to do so. With Mr. Holmes... she honestly wasn't sure if she should try to talk to him or if her words would even be welcome. Joan, instead, found herself sighing softly, one finger restlessly tapping on the fabric of her dress. ]
