You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.
And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.
Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.
Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?
How to Play 1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference. 2. Comment to others. 3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you. |

"That's a shame," she teased before leaning back almost carelessly in her chair, propping her elbow against the back and glancing around as if to make him think he'd lost her interest. "You've never been curious about just a quick distraction?"
Nope. Hadn't lost her interest at all.

She is playing the role of a client, Neji reminded herself. He couldn't give her the rude brush-off he wanted to, not when this was all about demonstrating how he would manage the high-profile, politically powerful clients a jounin would interact with.
But oh, he'd find a way to make Tsunade pay for saddling him with Ino in such a position!
"Would you want me to be distracted when your safety is my assignment?" he asked her, keeping his tone just a little shy of rebuke -- just enough to preserve courtesy to a client. "I do not take my missions lightly."
no subject
Which she absolutely refused to let him do. She had him captive, in a manner of speaking, so she just blinked, lips parting slightly as the corner quirked up in amusement. "You're saying you can't focus on two things at once, Neji-kun? They told me you were a genius."
There. See if she can't bait his pride a bit.

The question earned a raised eyebrow from him. "Are you saying you want me to?" Turning the questioning right back at her. Prickling his pride, teasing him, that was all part of the mission -- but such a question wasn't entirely a breach of protocol, and challenged her to answer just how much substance there was to her words.
Her display didn't leave him entirely unaffected, of course. He wasn't a eunuch. But he did remain wary, albeit amused at her efforts.

Not quite Sasuke-kun. Not quite her ideal. But certainly close enough to serve as a distraction, if he'd let her.
"If you think you can. You don't think I'm worth a distraction or two?"
And maybe she sounded a little desperate at that. Maybe she just wanted to be acknowledged by a genius, just once.

But he was quite solitary, and she'd apparently gotten better at the traditional kunoichi's art over the last few years. Tempting... His stance softened just a little as he let himself consider the matter. Perhaps after the mission was accomplished...

But she wasn't the girl in the Forest of Death, trying vainly to seduce him in any way possible. She had time; an entire mission's worth of time to pick at him. A wistful sigh, then she picked up her tea cup and took another small, measured sip.
"Are we being watched? I think any misconduct could be just between you and me, Neji-kun. So afraid you'll perform poorly on this mission?"
no subject
Naturally, they were being watched; the whole purpose of this mission was a test. What good would it be if he were unobserved in his testing?
But that didn't mean the end of her hopes -- after all, what more proof than being able to slip something past his watchers? He hummed a noncommittal response, letting his gaze wander pointedly around the tearoom. "Are we not being watched, Yamanaka-san? Is that not precisely the eventually against which you hired me?"
no subject
"Then I'd get to see you in action." A smile over the rim of her teacup. "If we're being watched, maybe you should get rid of the people watching. That's the easiest way to do it, isn't it?"
no subject
"It has complications," he countered simply. "It is always better to keep your enemies known. If it becomes necessary later to eliminate them..." Well. He was pretty sure their hidden watchers would spice the mission up if it proved to be going too well.
"Let me worry about such things," he added. "That is why you hired me. You just enjoy the journey."

All of it was, really, as disappointing as some of them were. Really, at this rate she'd have a hard time doing anything but give him a passing grade on her end (she wasn't nearly petty enough to fail him for not responding to her advances). Instead, she only sighed and tilted her head back to finish the last few sips of her tea before setting the cup down with a soft clunk.
"Then I suppose we'd better continue our journey, Neji-kun."
no subject
"I suppose we should," he agreed. "At your pleasure, my lady." Polite, leaving the direction of the journey to the client -- but providing protection in the meantime.
Out on the road, he was alert to an ambush, moving with a grace like a hunting cat as he searched in all directions for their inevitable ambush.
