Emotions are rough, and it feels as though things can change at the drop of a hat. Sometimes, you can't even help who you fall in love with - even if that person is already in love with someone else. Or it could be that you've got affection for someone that someone else likes! We call that a love triangle, and while they make for great entertainment, they're less fun to actually be in.

Whether you're the center of attention or one of the unfortunate other sides of the triangle, someone is bound to be crushed.

~Leave a comment with your character + your preferences. You might also want to mention if your character is more inclined to being the object of the triangle or one of the "angles"/sides. But why not both? You can also include canon information to help along cross-canon tagging (ie, "my character is super in love with her husband, X").

[OOC: Would you be interested in doing a realization thing with this guy? Basically something like Makoto discovering that something has been developing between Haru and Rin, and that he doesn't know how to deal with his feelings for one or the other (or both) of them?

I'd be down for playing it out with Makoto's interest being either in Haru or in Rin, whichever you'd prefer, and I'm happy to write the thread start if this sounds like something you'd be up for. :)]

Accidents, it seemed to Haru, had a way of accumulating. Sort of like the multi-car pile ups he'd heard sometimes happened on highways around big cities far from home.

Haru had, of course, never actually seen a multi-car pile up in real life, but in his mind, they had to bear a striking similarity to how today was turning out: one little misstep and then something slams you from behind, and then another thing, and another, until pretty soon it seems like everything is caught up in it, and you'll never manage to pry the wrecks apart.

The simple little misstep had been this: Haru had taken his phone with him to school. It wasn't something he usually did, and he'd only done so today because Rin had urged him to. Not being used to keeping track of his phone, however, Haru had managed to leave it behind on a desk in one of their classrooms, which allowed a rather malicious student in the next class (one of the third years, as it happened) carte blanche to read through all his texts. As (very bad) luck would have it, the student in question was one of the biggest gossips in school, and by lunch time it was pretty much impossible to turn a corner without running into someone who'd heard something about how Haru was having very suggestive conversations via text with some guy at another school, and that he was very likely gay (or at least sexually available to men--which more than a few people seemed to presume meant any man).

The gossip-monger who'd taken his phone even took the initiative to forward particularly damning and salacious texts to everyone in their address book, and by the time Haru eventually got his phone back, the damage had been well and truly done. He had been quite thoroughly and effectively outed, and even if the majority of the students at their school didn't immediately intuit the identity of his mystery boyfriend, there were certainly at least a few who could. The worst of which had been Gou, who saw him in the hallway, turned, and literally ran the other way.

The whole thing was so awful that he could barely make himself text Rin to warn him. He even dreaded seeing Makoto at the end of the day when they would finally have time to talk about what had happened--he was too embarrassed by the exposure of something so private, too ashamed of his own carelessness, too afraid to learn what his best friend would think, and he wasn't sure that he could cope with it if Makoto turned out to be cold to him too. He even tried to hang back after their last class to escape on his own, but unfortunately he still ran into Makoto just outside the classroom door.

It shouldn't have surprised Makoto, that two of the people he cared most about would end up together, especially with the intensity of their relationship in any form. So why did this still hurt?

He knew the text messages couldn't have been from Haru himself; the chain of gossip circulating the school pretty much meant that he wasn't the only one to receive those and he also knew Haru wasn't malicious or capable of surprising his friends like that. Makoto went through the day overhearing people going on and on about their salacious find, and he did nothing to stop them. It would have fed too much into the fire and for the most part, he was in a state of shock.

What he absolutely couldn't do, though, was ignore Haru. So when the day was over, he stood outside the classroom, waiting... and waiting... and waiting. He knew Haru wouldn't want to confront this- and to be honest Makoto didn't know if he wanted to either, in light of what he was finding he felt. But then Haru came out and he startled. Tension wracked his body.

"Haru- I-" He blinked and tried to force himself into saying something else. Something not so obviously ill at ease. He failed.

Immediately Haru looked away. In fact he almost just kept walking.

He felt like he couldn't even bear to meet Makoto's gaze. But then he couldn't bear the reality of running from him either--this was his best friend, and he needed him now just as badly as he feared the potential judgment (or even rejection) he might receive.

If Samezuka was closer, he would probably have gone straight to Rin. He couldn't go to Rin though--he didn't feel like he could manage the trip now. And besides, he couldn't face even the possibility of the rumors that he might start at Rin's school by showing up there now. Makoto was the person who had always been there for him, and he was right here, so why didn't Haru feel like he could get to him either?

Feeling very emotionally raw and vulnerable, he paused outside the classroom door a few steps away from his friend, his eyes still averted. "If you have something you want to say, then say it." The words came out cold, and as soon as he'd voiced them he wondered why he was speaking that way when it wasn't what he wanted at all. Why was he all but trying to push Makoto away when he needed to bring him closer? Why did this all have to be so messed up?

[OOC: No worries! I've been having a really hectic RL schedule too. (So apologies in advance if I get slow at any point.) I'll backtag until the cows come home if you're willing though! I'm really excited about the premise of this thread.]

[Juri was canonically involved in two screwed up love triangles so this is right up her alley. While she's likely to be the center of it all, she isn't exactly the aggressor, no matter her standing (it's complicated, okay).]

ooc: Preferences leaning to 13, but I'm willing to experiment!

OOC: OT3 is something we've discussed, and share the same preference I think. So I'll just say Steve preferred for the third.

[So, I would LOVE to do an OT3 with Sherlock, John and Joan. I'm open to other ideas too, but that would make me ridiculously happy.]
