Even the enchanted ones are quite safe, and will just do cute and safe things like make people float for a couple of minutes, or make them have a crush on any nearby person for about 30 seconds. They may also turn people orange or make them giggle for about 2 minutes.

4. The Haunted House - Filled with cute ghosts and other things that go bump in your night. Oh, my, is that your character's dearly departed mother, taking this occasion to come and visit her child?

5. The Costume Party - Fun for the whole family. Even if they magically turn into their costumes, nothing really dangerous happens - If you want your character to be a cute fluffy vampire or werewolf for a few hours, feel free to do so!

[The one obvious part is that they do have quite different styles; it'd be more than a little weird to see her dressed up like him. Hearing that his regular clothes "aren't bad" is good enough. Onward to teasing.]

Sweat is gonna be the least of your problems. Just imagine all the weird and embarrassing things I could have you wear.

[That he won't, because it would be easy enough for her to get him back. But Rita can reason that out herself.]

[His outfit works for him, but it would look weird on her. It does make Rita think that dressing Yuri up in something she would wear would be pretty funny, though.

But before she can amuse herself too much with that thought, she takes the bait and sputters back at him.]

H-hey! I'm not wearing anything like--you wouldn't dare!

[Glancing around at the passersby, Yuri spots a woman wearing a rather skimpy, frilly outfit. He can't tell what she's supposed to be, exactly; his best guess is a sexy goldfish. This makes for good fodder, though.]

Like what? That?

[With some effort, he keeps his voice deadpan.]

Be hard to pull off.

[Except not so much in the literal sense. But, of course, Yuri is not so lewd that the thought occurs to him.]

[Some part of Rita can appreciate...some of the outfit. Of course, the whole idea is that she'd never wear the thing as-is.]

What's that supposed to mean?

[She fixes him with a glare. But he's not Raven, so the literal sense doesn't occur to her, either.]

I could handle that if I wanted to.

[Yuri raises both eyebrows, and he can't help but smile a little.]

Really. Well, I'll just have to keep that in mind.

[They've made their way to Fortune's Market's turf, now, and the first feature is a big, black box set on a raised platform. It has several holes cut into it, with little numbered curtains obscuring each opening. The sign above reads: Pick a number… if you dare!

Yuri gives Rita a glance.]

Ooooh. Do you dare?

You--you don't have to!

[Her voice reaches an impressive pitch, but she'll plot her revenge...later.

For now--face still pink--she narrows her eyes at him.]

Aren't you supposed to be the daring guy?

[Not that it'll necessarily stop her.]

Besides, it's a just a box. There's no way Fortune's Market would put anything dangerous in there.

[So she has no problem reaching for one of the numbers: 21.]

Yeah. I'm sure you're right.

[So he says in a funny, sort of ominous way. Lack of danger notwithstanding, he's OK with her picking first and being the guinea pig.

Once Rita's hand is inside the box, nothing happens for a second. Then what feels like a cold, slimy tendril begins to coil lightly around her palm.]

[She snorts and feels around with her hand for a moment, expecting some kind of prize.

...But that's definitely not the kind she wants, and she immediately tries to yank her hand back with a shriek.]

Gyaaah! W-what is it?!

[killervigil]

[Her hand slides out easily, but there's a bit of clear, sticky residue clinging to it. When she screams, Yuri gives a small jolt of surprise, and instinctively takes a few protective steps toward her. He exhales quietly when he sees that her hand is OK. Not that he was worried or anything!!]

Hey, I couldn't see it. What did it feel like?

Like I'm gonna blast whoever put this thing together!

[Her heart is pounding way too fast over a stupid box! She grips his hand with her not-gross one and turns back to him for a slightly better response. Totally believable, yes.]

Ugh... It felt like a monster straight out of a swamp or something.

[She puncuates it by holding up her hand, scowling at the goo on it.]

So do you dare?

"whoever put this thing together" /ducks

[He nods.]

There's no way they'd have two nasty things in a row.

[Such is the logic he relies upon as he reaches inside number 20. A few seconds later, he pulls out a sparkler. He holds it out to show her, and as he does, the thing lights itself — like magic. It issues some orange-colored sparks and gives off a pleasant warmth. Yuri stares at the display, not looking all too impressed.]

Yay.

ahaha, good thing she'll never know... B3

You're willing to bet on that?

[Well. Good thing they didn't make an actual bet out of it. Rita scowls, because it's both unimpressive and also better than what she got.]

I thought these guys were supposed to be some big shots! Idiots.

[With an expression of disgust, she goes to wipe her hand off on the curtain again.]

Maybe they ran out of the good stuff already.

[Nobody appears to be supervising the box, so there's a chance it got ransacked. It's certainly not getting much attention from the crowd, which supports the theory. It almost feels like a total loss, but once the sparkler dies and Yuri takes a few steps to toss it out, he's pelted in the back by a handful of candy.

He turns his head in surprise to see a short fellow in a jester costume bounding away.]

Guy's fast…

[Yuri shakes his head, then glances down at the candy spilled around his feet. Most of it consists of small wrapped pieces of chocolate, caramel, and taffy. He stoops to pick one up.]

Would you eat this?

What a bunch of amateurs...

[Rita's impression of the guilds just dropped a few more points. Except for Brave Vesperia, of course, though she'll never admit that.

Having missed what happened, Rita just turns to see a bunch of candy on the ground and gives Yuri a skeptical look.]

Is there anything wrong with it?

[If not, then...she probably would.

[Yuri isn't 100% sure, but he's not paranoid enough to think that someone would go around tossing out poisoned candy to random people on the street. He unwraps one of the caramels and pops it in his mouth, then chews a few times before answering.]

Mm. S'good.

[He starts picking up a few more, then swallows.]

Grab whichever ones you want.

[Rita wouldn't put it past some people, but she'd have to agree that it's probably highly unlikely, so she scoops up a couple of chocolates.]

Anything's better than slime...

[Grumble, grumble. She'll feel better after eating a piece and adjusting her cat ears again.]

Anyway, I say we leave this bunch behind. There has to be something better than this.

...Wasn't the kid going on about some light show that was a 'must-see'?

[She's a little skeptical, because Karol gets excited for way too many things, but it's probably better than a tentacle behind a curtain.]

[Yuri nabs a couple more pieces before straightening up and patting some dirt from his robes.]

Oh, yeah. He definitely sounded excited about it. Pretty sure the Captain said they shine the lights over the water.

[He takes a look around; the crowds are thinning, and there's a trickle of people that seem to be heading toward the river.]

I bet it's starting soon. We should find a good place to watch.

[Yuri glances back toward the stream of people, then his face brightens.]

Actually, I've got an idea. Let's go.

[He grabs her hand to lightly pull her along, keeping a brisk pace and heading deeper into the city rather than following the crowd.]

That kid gets excited for anything.

[She might be trying to pretend that she's not at least a little interested.

Although she needs to walk a bit faster to keep up, it's not something she complains about. Instead, she's just curious.]

Definitely.

[He leads them into an alley, then around another few corners. On another night the route might have seemed a bit spooky, but the colorful lights on the buildings and the far off sounds of celebration alter the ambiance for the better. After a moment, Yuri stops at a ladder. It looks somewhat old and rusted, but seems to be quite solid as he puts one hand on a rung.

The ladder climbs the full height of a tall living complex — seven or eight stories.]

Hope you’re up for some exercise.

[So he says while starting his ascent.]

You sure know your shortcuts.

[It suits her just fine, anyway--it's nice to get away from all the people. (And she'll never admit it, but it's also nice to have an alleyway that isn't spookier than usual.)

Her enthusiasm drops a little as she eyes the building and tries to see if the ladder goes all the way to the top.]

You want to climb this whole thing? Ugh, I can't believe...

[Grumble, grumble. She kicks a stone away with a huff, then starts to somewhat reluctantly climb after him.]

I'm warning you, this better be worth it!

[Yuri better also be wearing something under those robes, because she's certainly not trying to sneak any peeks, but when he's climbing above her...it's bound to happen if she looks up.]

[Fortunately for both of them, he has some pants on under there. Yuri keeps a fairly brisk climbing pace, knowing she can keep up; compared to some of the climbing they've done — say, in and around the Heracles — this is easy peasy (and they don't even have to fight hordes of robots). Still, once he reaches the top, he offers Rita an arm to pull her up.

The roof space isn't expansive, but someone has maintained a small, pleasant-smelling flower garden there. There's a single wooden bench overlooking it, but more impressive is the surrounding view. A good portion of the city is a visible, including the waterfront, where most of the crowds have gathered.]

Well? Do I get a pass?

[Can't have Rita dying of embarrassment before they make it to the top. She does her best not to look down as they ascend, and while it's nothing they haven't done before, she still draws in a deep breath as she takes his offered arm.

She doesn't pay much attention to the garden for the time being--Rita doesn't mind flowers, not at all--it's just that the view of the city is way better than anything else up there.

No crowds up here, and the only way they could have a better view would be to get a ride from Ba'ul.]

...It's a pass.

[She tears her eyes away from the waterfront to give him a little smile, just so he knows that she definitely approves.]

I should've known you'd have something like this up your sleeve.

You spend enough time somewhere, you've gotta know the prime spots.

[Only issue is that it's a bit cold and gusty up there, but nothing a little body heat can't counteract. Yuri returns the smile, then motions toward the bench and gives her a playful bow.]

Would milady like a seat?
