His one month off of duty in a decade, and he got drafted. It just wasn't fair. Uriel slouched into the kitchen, fetched another cup of peppermint coffee and leaned back against the counter, sipping it moodily. Not that he didn't enjoy spending time with Dani--she was a good girl, a good friend and for all her tough exterior, he knew deep down she was more than she gave herself credit for.

But damnit, he'd wanted to spend this month away from duty, not babysitting for his older brother. Yet, one did not simply argue with the Captain. Granted, things had been quiet this past week, but next time, Uriel wasn't going to tell anyone where he planned to spend his vacation, and he damned sure wasn't going to pick a tourist spot like southern California, even if the house provided was right on the beach.

[Maybe it's a dream bubble or honestly in the past memory, but the windows are drawn so only a peek of afternoon sunlight squeaks through. Soft toys are piled on the bed around her and it's quiet, save for the gentle hum of the various machines in the room. The room is that kind of cozy warm after you've stayed in bed all day, snuggled into a nest of blankets.
