the should never be together meme

the "should never be together" meme.
When two people come together in a relationship, it's a beautiful thing. What can be wrong with love, right? Right? Except when the union is completely and totally wrong, for whatever reason. Then things can get a little messy. How To Play 1. Comment with your character, listing their name, canon, etc, along with any preferences. 2. Comment around to others, using the RNG to determine the scenario. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey relationship, obviously. There can be hate, sorrow, lust, whatever. 3. Thread! Have fun! Do things! Scenarios 1. Warring Factions: You belong to rival organizations, armies, clubs, etc. Whatever it is, you're not on the same team. 2. Soldiers on the Battlefield: Or maybe you are on the same side, but this is the wrong time and the wrong place. Plus, attachments cause distractions. 3. Bodyguard and the Guarded: Just like the movie with Kevin Costner! One of you has been hired to protect the other for some reason, and feelings are starting to grow. Are you a professional and cut things off, or do you give in? 4. Prince/ss and Knight: Similar to the above, but with a whole 'nother level of wrong...one of you is royal. Courtly love is okay; still, don't forget your place. 5. Enemies: This vendetta is personal, and you totally hate this person! Don't you? Perhaps you're maybe just rivals, or something as serious as superhero and villain. 6. Family: The ultimate taboo. This person is related to you, so there's no way you should indulge this desire, even if it's the most pure love there ever was. 7. Age Difference: The years between you should keep you both at bay, but it's easier said than done. 10. Teacher/Student: Teachers and students have a unique bond, and to corrupt it is a dangerous thing. Will you dare to act on emotions that could put you both in a destructive place? 11. Already Spoken For: One or both of you are already involved with someone else, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just know that you can't have your cake and eat it, too. 12. Not Compatible: Your personalities or jobs make it so it's hard for you to be together. 13. Not Compatible...in Another Way: You're both different species, which means you're either afraid to take your relationship to a physical level or you can't because of differences in biologies. 14. Not Ready for Love: You took a vow (or celbacy, of chastity, of dedication), you're married to your work, or you just don't want to be involved with anyone. Too bad! 15. Rich and Poor: One of you has the money while the other is from more modest means. Can the 1% and the 99% ever be bedfellows, literally? 16. Hurt Before: Your heart has been broken, and maybe there's been no time to heal. But here you are. 17. WILDCARD

Eve | Derek Bliss | 13...
Derek, that was his name. At least that's what she came to know him as. Tall. Mysterious. Beautiful eyes. He was someone she could see herself getting to know a lot better... Considering how shy, how taken she was with him upon their first meeting. But she'd never met the man before they ran into each other in Bakersfeild, never connected him to Emily or Ben. Yet apparently there was a connection... ONE BIG NASTY connection, and though she enjoyed talking with him on those few fleeting occasions, she was just as surprised to find out why he was there, why she herself was being so very welcomed into town.
Of course, that all led to her current situation. Derek had swooped in the night before last, a party crasher worthy of a medal. In her naivety, all she saw was scuffle, people screaming... and in haste her own abilities activated. A hot wind seared those nearby, stretching out to try stop the inevitable. Luckily for her, she only managed to knock him out. Sure some of his some cells fried, and some of his outer dermal layer was melted together, but that was at least fixable. Some people, some human and not-so-human... weren't so lucky. Which is why it was better for everyone if they left, better for her if she just tucked him away in a holiday home along the Mesa river. She could look after him until he came too, fix him, hopefully repair what trouble she'd caused.
Two days. Two very long days of touch and go, of dabbing and wiping, of re -bandaging and fluffing pillows to make him 'more comfy' as she carefully re-molded flesh. For as much as she wanted to forget, she couldn't. He was a mystery true, but a hero, and one that deserved an explanation. And maybe... maybe one day, he'd forgive her.
Eve | Derek Bliss | 13...
When he did finally work his way out of the shock and trauma that kept him unconscious and unaware, he was still hurting, and the infection, blessedly silent while he'd wandered his own dreams, started to gibber awake, pushing him towards a type of quiet panic. He was burned. The sun must have finally caught up with him; why else would he be burned? He'd changed and never even realized it, and oh god, was there someone nearby? Didn't they have the sense to run? The panic was shelved as quietly and as quickly as he could manage as he drifted closer to being awake, and pragmatism took hold. He couldn't move, and if he listened, he could hear his heart beating. Not dead yet. Not a vampire. And the pain was gone. For the most part.
Despite that, he kept quiet, kept still, with only the slightest hint of a groan as he finally woke up completely.
"...Where...?" that hurt. His throat was dry. He swallowed, tried again. "How long?"
He'd save 'who are you' for the next round. He should probably know, of course, but for right now, it escaped him.
Re: Eve | Derek Bliss | 13...
"Hey... shhhh. You’re ok... " He might want to kill her when he woke up, she thought, settling on something easy... Well at least he would wake up.
"... You're safe."
Eve offered a small smile, a feminine hand pulling a cool damp cloth over his forehead.

Still, when the cool cloth rested up against his skin, he closed his eyes, letting himself relax a little. Things still hurt, there were still blanks in his memory. He was exhausted.
His eyes didn't stay closed for long, though. Training and instinct kept prodding him towards wakefulness. It wouldn't be long when it would probably prod him to start sitting up, too.
"What happened?" Not yet, but he couldn't stay down for long. Staying down meant you died while you were still down.

"Ok..."
Sighing and stepping back, giving Derek some space and privacy, Eve slipped out of the room to retrieve a bottle, filled with cool refreshing water. She was pretty sure it wouldn't be too long before that sensation arose.
"Maybe you should have a drink first. Get your bearings." She offered as soon as she returned, anxiously nestling between his torso and the edge of the couch. "Then, if you still want... I'll tell you what happened. I owe you that much."

Business as usual, then. Even if he didn't remember what that business was just yet.
Derek nodded as she excused herself for a minute struggling to a sitting position while she was out of the room and taking stock. Sore, still feeling a little bit crisped even though there were few signs of the injuries now, blanks where he knew there should be at least a few hours of memories. By the time she's back, he's starting to get that closed, thoughtful look on his face.
"I'd like to know." Because nothing feels right.

“We went to a stupid party. Do you remember that? There was a bunch of us. Four girls... Five boys I think...” She went on, intermittently interrupting her recollection of the events with the odd question or tangent. By the end of her explanation, all was left to fill him in on was what had happened after she saw him taking a stake to her friend...
“Do you remember what happened after that?”
She swallowed - hard, heart suddenly taking up residence in her throat. She wasn't sure how to explain that part yet. Maybe if he could just... remember on his own. See how terrified she was at the time.
“When... . I almost tried to kill you?”
no subject
Not cold, not dead or dying.
"Why did you try and kill me?"
This was important, and the intent glare and hand that was almost too tight around her wrist underlined that. He didn't remember, and he was in full-on suspicious hunter mode now.

“Derek, please...”
Eve wasn't a vampire. She wasn't dead or a half alive or an enemy... She wasn't even upset with him. She was just a lost young woman whose eyes were asking him to let go.
“I.. I thought you were going to kill my friends ok? I thought I might be next, so I panicked. When I saw what my friends really were, it was too late. I'm sorry.”
no subject
"All right. I'm sorry."
He takes a deep breath.
"What the hell was that, anyway? What you did."
no subject
She wanted to pat his shoulder, provide some sign of gratitude, but in her own mind, it was a little too soon. In light of everything that had transpired she settled on a brief smile, closing her eyes to collect her jumbled thoughts. Tucking her hand between her lap, the absence of pain or injury brought some relief.
"You really want to know?"
Re-opening those baby blues, her gaze flicked from her wrist, to Derek and back again.
"I'm different. I can help people, heal them... But when I panic, the same thing that lets me heal people can... be used to hurt them. I... over heated their cells... Your cells... Which is a really bad trick to have when you don't understand what's going on."
no subject
"Were you ever trained to control it, or do you just let it fly?"
Both talents could be useful, but if it was going off as a reaction rather than from intentional, then he could see where it could get very ugly very quickly. The after-burn from his own injuries was proof enough of that.

She nodded sagely, using her words to specifically denote a past tense. It had been years since she underwent training. Even in that window of time there were only a few people who wanted to deal with her, much less take on 'on the field'. If she wanted real training, she could forget it. Not that no one tried. Her sister had become a mentor for a while, a good teacher in all honesty, but there was only so much she could teach in such a confined environment.
"But not for a while now." It should have been easier to control, but without practice, her innate instinct took over, fusing pure adrenaline with mitochondria, unleashing the unadulterated heatwave. It all manifested in a speed she couldn't control. With that thought she shook her head, trying to shake the images from her mind.
"... Do you train - for what you do?"

He glances towards her before having to reach up to rub his forehead. God he needed a real drink. Or at least some coffee.
"Any living people besides me get fried?" He'd registered that the vampires had been her friends, but for the moment he had to concentrate on facts. If there was time later, he'd apologize for killing them if she looked like she wanted one or needed one.
But not now.

"I..." A wave of nausea bit into her stomach, thoughts awash with guilt. "I swear I didn't mean to hurt anyone."
