The Sweet/Sour Pairing Meme

There's something inherently adorable about relationships that involve the pairing of someone subdued with someone...not so much. Grumpy gusses with dour attitudes are much more bearable when they have a soft spot for a sweetie, aren't they? After all, there's potential for improvement on both ends: the grouch can get perked up, while the bubbly force of nature can be brought back down to earth.

Theoretically. Of course, it might end in tears and heartbreak but that doesn't ALWAYS happen, does it?

Your character not exactly a jerkass but can be a little glum? Or how about a kind heart who isn't exactly a social butterfly? That's fine, too. This meme can whet your want for kind/mean, badass/pampered, social/antisocial, rough/nurturing, tsundere -

Well. You get the picture. Right here is the place for all your favorite sweet/sour pairings. Ship that cuteness, and make that frown turn upside down.

HOW TO PLAY
✿ Comment with your character and preferences. Include if your character is the "sweet" or the "sour." Remember, you can be very liberal with the labels. You may also want to include what you're looking for (fluff, smut, etc).
✿ Sweets comment to sours and vice versa.

[It's a bit of a reversal when Ami shows up at Crown, but that's where they've arranged to meet, and as guilty as she feels over this, she's not sure she's ready to introduce a guy to Mama, especially when explaining how she knows him involves things she can't say at all.

Her face breaks into something of a relieved smile as she spots Nephrite and heads straight towards the counter where, she sees, he's managed to linger almost as if these were his work hours. He looks nice, she notices, dressed to go out. (As for her, she's left her hair loose again.)]

Are you ready to go? Do you have more work to do first? [For a second she thinks to be afraid the others will show up, which could only lead to very embarrassing teasing.]

[Nephrite wanted to go pick Ami up at her house, but she had insisted to meet at Crown. It was annoying to hear Motoki's teasing because he's been ready to go out for hours. Turtle-head should mind his own business and stop paying attention to what Nephrite wears.

He is saved when Ami shows up. He loves her smile, and he can't help but smile back. He is still amazed that she agreed to go out with him.]

No, I'm done. Let's go?

[Ami dips her head in an easy nod, but she waits until they're outside the doors and she's sure Motoki isn't watching them before she reaches out to take Nephrite's hand, a gesture that somehow comes almost naturally, to her surprise.]

I've wanted to hear the symphony again since their last performance. [That's right, they're heading to a long, formal, concert. It may or may not be part of a unilateral decision that Nephrite should be exposed to more culture.]

[Nephrite didn't expect her to take his hand. This kind of contact was completely new to him, and it was good. The gesture parted from her, what made he feel accepted and happy. He held her hand with care, mindful of his own strength.

He had no idea what was this symphony Ami wanted to hear, but he'd go anywhere with her.]

[As much as she wants to share a nebulous tie with her father, Ami's creativity has always been more in the area of music than his art and painting. She nods eagerly.]

The music really carries me away. I like that feeling.

[Note to self: learn about music. Nephrite wants to know more about the things Ami likes. ]

I usually don't pay much attention to music, but I like it when you sing.

This is better than my singing. [Much better, she thinks. Now Minako's singing, that was pop music and different, but that was very impressive.]

Hm. It must be VERY GOOD then.

[He didn't want to doubt her because she was far more cultured than him, but… For him nothing could be better than her voice.]

Nephrite... [Ami dips her head a little so that he can't see her expression, or rather her faint blush. That sounded too complimentary!]

Not very often, not like this one. [Could she get Usagi to go to one of Minako's concerts? You bet. A classical performance where Usagi is going to have sit politely and quietly? Not so much, and the others aren't as interested as Ami is, either. It's the sort of thing they'll go to once in a very rare while.]

So you usually go by yourself? Or you end up not going?
[It would be sad if she replied with the last option. If it was something she enjoyed so much, even if he didn't like it he'd keep her company.]

I go sometimes. [What she really means is that she goes on those few occasions she can bring the others. It'd be lonely to be there all alone. But it also sounds petty to complain about it, so she leaves it somewhat vague.]

Not as often as you'd like, I suppose. If you call me, I'll come with you.

[... or not. They arrived when he finished his phrase and was surprised to see a place so refined-looking and so much classy people. Ami, why did you bring the bull to the china shop?]

Tonight's performance is the last, so they may make it special.

Not this season. [Yes a concert season. Nephrite, let her induct you into the classical music scene.

Most of the people who knew her before she knew the girls probably would have been surprised by her fondness for pop music rather than for this.]

They'll have a new repertoire next time, too.
