There's nothing like the bond between a maker and their offspring. It goes beyond parent, friend, lover to a realm deeper than most humans could understand. It can encompass so many things - loyalty, love, respect, protectiveness and it certainly isn't unheard of to include sex in with it all.

As a sire, you will most likely feel the urge to protect and teach what you've created. They will be your family, your blood. Vampire instinct dictates you stay with your offspring until you feel they are able to make it on their own.

Some never part.

As an offspring, you may feel slighted if they turned you against your choice or you may feel profound respect. You may love them anyway, even if the choice to be changed wasn't yours. In some tales, a created vampire will always love their maker and look at them with nothing but utter respect. They will be under their maker's control, perhaps never regaining their freedom.

Not all sires and sired have the perfect relationship, however. For reasons so varied, sires might not feel any bond towards their offspring, may grow to resent the burden or whatever forced them into creating them. Sired vampires may resent their makers for not giving them a choice, for taking them away from their family.

Now the question is, what will your relationship be like?

1. the beginning | you're about to make an offer they can't (or won't) refuse. you want a companion, they were sick, they were dying and you couldn't stand to see it happen. they're a friend, a lover, someone you just think would make a good companion. maybe you just want to be a sire and experience that joy.
2. the awakening | the first night awakening with new eyes. how does it feel? is it joyous, confusing, terrifying or infuriating? how do you look at your maker? be prepared to spend time adjusting to your newfound senses.
3. first feed | it's time that the sired takes their first taste of actual blood. is it done willingly? is it a desperate hunger that they just can't ignore? or did you have blood waiting for them or special rules they need to follow before they feed? now would be the time to tell them.
4. mentor | while maybe not their actual sire, you are the closest they've got. just because you don't have a blood bond doesn't mean you don't care about them as much as your own and you need them to understand that.
5. settling in | things are radically different than they were before for both the sire and the sired. it's time to seek a little comfort in each other, soothe any discomfort and get a feel for your new bond.
6. first rest | it's your first day's rest and you want to spend it wth your sire. do they accept you with open arms, wait with you? do they insist you go it alone? and whatever their answer, it's also important how the sired accepts it and what they think of it.

1. prey | you've found your prey, either willing or not, for the night and the hunger is kicking in. do you share it? is it every vampire for him(or her)self?
2. hiding | you've both reached a point in your life where it's important to blend in with humans, either out of necessity or want. how are both of you handling it? is it a joint desire or is one simply being made to follow along?
3. moving | something has happened and you need to move on, fast. how do you feel about leaving your home and everything behind? were you really ready for it?
4. dedication | show your dediction to each other in any way possible. you need to know that you are family, you need to reaffirm that bond between you.
5. change | things are changing between you, for better or worse. it's subtle or outright apparent to one or both of you. the question is how you handle it and if it can be worked out.
6. release | every parent, friend or lover knows when it is time to let go. do they want it or is it you? is it the sign of the sired growing up to a mature, capable vampire or have you just grown tired of dealing with them? do they leave as soon as they get a taste of freedom or choose to stay?

angst
1. hunted down | there are hunters after one or both of you. it is up to you to decide whether you stand your ground or you run. do you want to give in to their desire to kill you? do you want to do anything to keep your maker or your child safe?
2. tortured | there are those who enjoy to torture that which they don't understand, either out of malice or personal gain. have you found your companion yet and will they ever be the same again?
3. injured | one or both of you have been injured in a way that will not heal without blood and time to mend. how do you possibly deal with the vulnerability?
4. break | there is something broken in your bond, anger building between you and discontent whether you are aware of it or not. is there anything like your sire being ashamed of creating you? or your own offspring hating you?
5. resentment | one or neither of you wanted this and the resentment just grows more each day. can it be worked out or is there anything anyone can do to patch this up? is there any guilt for what you've inflicted on the other that you need to express?
6. the ending | it's time to meet the long sleep, to meet the sun and put an end to a very long, very difficult life. do you meet it together? do you send one of them away?

crime and punishment
1. disobeyed | your offspring disobewed and they must be punished for it. in what way will you choose and does it pain you to do so? how does it feel for your offspring to know they let you down?
2. higher power | it goes beyond a dispute between sire and sired this time and higher authorities are demanding punishment. how severe will it be? will you two ever see each other again?
3. murderer | one or both of you killed another vampire or a human deemed offlimits. how will you handle this? and what punishment awaits you?
4. animal | insanity can settle in over time, causing one to act in a way that they would never have thought possible. how do you handle this?
5. betrayal | you have betrayed your maker or your child in the worst way possible. do you confess or do they already know? how do you move past this?
6. secrets | there are dark secrets between the both of you. how do you deal with it and is it something that will sting deeply?

1. gift | you have brought a special gift, for a special occasion or just because. you want to please the other in every way you can, maybe just to spoil them a little bit.
2. confession | you love each other, but you need to tell them just how deeply and in what ways.
3. staying | even though you have been told you can go, released, you are choosing to stay and you need them to understand just why.
4. forgiveness | you have fought and hurt each other, but it is time to show some forgiveness. what is done is in the past and it's time to move on.
5. comfort | it has been a long, trying time and it is time to seek comfort in the only one that you can, in whatever ways you will be able.
6. sharing | sharing each other's blood is an intimate experience, personal. you need that closeness right now, that even deeper connection.

smut
1. first time | it's the first time for you together ever or since turning. maybe one of you was a virgin in life and now you have to deal with that situation in death. is it special? terrifying? something that has been building for far too long?
2. mine | possessive, jealous. you need them to know who they belong to and just how much you need them.
3. owed | your sired owes you this, whether they want it or not. with you or with whomever you say. maybe your sired is forcing you into this, twisting that bond to make you bend to their will.
4. kinky | the best part of being undead? you don't have to worry about things like breathing or injuries. you can be as kinky or as rough as you want to be. experiment a little!
5. shared | you are being shared with another vampire or are being asked to share what's yours. how do you react? is it something that you both want anyway?
6. worship | as a maker or child, it is your duty to show how much you worship the other entirely, how much you want them.

"Yes, it will always be like this. It is very distracting at first." He came in smelling faintly of blood and carrying fresh clothes and a towel. "But eventually you learn to filter what you wish from it...and then you are ready to learn all the little tricks of perception which we have developed." He came over and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling gently. "How are you feeling?"

"Different." She opened her eyes, there was a small gasp, things were fuzzy, but she saw light. "Okay THAT is going to take more to get used to... I didn't think they'd heal yet."

She licked her lips a little. "Hungry too... Like I haven't eaten in ages."

"It will take time. If a wound is received long enough ago that it has scarred, even regenerative power such as ours will have to work to restore it. I did not lose some of my mortal scars until a century had passed."

He nodded and set the towel down, rolling up his sleeve. "I know. I am freshly fed now from my donors and can see to that need."

"They've been damaged since I was young. It'll at least give me time to adjust if it takes that long." She kept her voice down, a low whisper, enjoying that she could still hear everything around her. Tilting her head a little she tried to listen for heartbeats.

"I won't feed on others?"

"Yes, this is important. I wish for you to enjoy this experience. It will naturally be frightening at times but...it should not be a horror. What I have come to realize is that much of the actual horror of a vampire's existence lies in how we treat our young ones, and what we teach you." He would not mess things up this time. He refused to.

"You will, but it is many times easier to learn to feed on others safely when you are not actually hungry. Also a good dose of my blood while your body is still adapting will help strengthen you."

"I'm not scared. If I was I wouldn't have agreed to this when you asked me." She reached up touching his face lightly. "I'm just worried that I'll break my flute if I play it right now. It's weird feeling every nerve on fire. I've never felt it before," She wasn't sure if she liked the feeling or not, but it was dimming since she woke up. He had known before turning her about her condition, and still given her the choice, if it allowed her to feel, and to see she didn't care about being stuck mostly on a liquid diet.

Her hand trailed down his arm. "Guess that would be a good point. We don't want to kill people..." She thought a moment. "Will other blood work? Like animal if needed?"

"It is very much like being in a new body entirely. Fortunately you will not need to relearn how to walk. But the entire world is more delicate now relative to you. You must always keep it in mind."

He nodded. "It is one of the reasons I keep a small herd of horses and cattle on the property. Smaller animals will die. And since we have few meat-eaters in our household that would be inefficient."

She nodded. "Then I guess I should pick up something less delicate to learn to play until I get the hang of it. I don't want to give up music." She smiled a little.

"So if I get too hungry head out there." She reached up with her free hand to tuck the hair from her face. "I don't want to kill anyone. I know, I'm a vampire now, but I will not kill."

"Actually I was going to simply supply you with a tougher flute. Ever since I realized that advanced alloys allowed me to take up a sword again without destroying it I have made certain to have connections to the business. Some things--like video game controllers, for example--simply must be made tougher."

He nodded. "Killing is killing regardless of race, and some are never suited to it regardless of vampire instincts. I know this. I will insist you learn to defend yourself and feed safely from humans, but I will not do as some sires do and push you to kill."

She grinned at that. "As long as it makes a decent sound. Might take us a while, I'm picky about the tone." She gave a brighter grin. "That's something else I might have to try once these," She motioned with her free hand, "Are fixed. I missed out on video games and visual arts. Sculptures... Some places would let me touch them."

"I know it is... but killing animals for food is one thing. It would be hard for me to kill someone, they're... Okay they weren't on the diet plan before... But then again, I ate stuff that I didn't really have to chew most the time, because they didn't want me to risk breaking teeth." She glanced at him. "I will be able to eat solid food right? I know it won't sustain me, but..."

"Of course. I will make a special request of my metallurgist. As for video games and the rest...I have several systems I am still sorting out. And I can arrange night tours at most museums for the right price."

He nodded. "I was a killer before I even became a vampire. Now even I do it only when there is a true need. We do not have to kill. A single ounce of human blood will sustain you for three nights. We can gorge ourselves and then go a month or even months without feeding, but just because we can does not mean we should. It always means death for at least one or more people. And the more used to that you get, the easier it becomes to kill. If it is not in your heart now to be such a being, then adhere to that."

He knew her vampire instincts would take over if she was ever truly endangered. No need to indulge them otherwise.

"You may train yourself to take small bites of this and that. Thin fluids are easiest."

"That might be fun when you feel I can handle the public."

Meg listened as he spoke. "I'll do my best, I'm counting that you'll be able to teach me so that I don't get tempted to go too far with it."

She nodded again. "I only asked in case we have to mingle with others a lot. If I snack on something other than blood less of a chance of me feasting on someone right?"

"It should not take long. It takes perhaps twenty days to form a habit. The habits in question are to feed before dealing with the living, and to leave their company when you start to feel thirsty. I will be with you much. I do apologize if I am a bit of a clucky sire but I wish for you to be safe and happy in your new existence."

An apologetic smile. "Unfortunately to do such a thing is like eating ice to try and allay hunger. Food is mere entertainment for us."

She smiled. "I'm used to people hovering over me. If it gets to be too much I'll excuse myself for a few moments. Don't worry I won't go far though."

She nods. "It would give me something else to think of long enough to politely leave."

"Exactly, exactly. Now, do you feel you need blood? I can feed you most of the way and then you can practice on one of my donors."

Meg nodded. "Yes, I'm starving." She just hoped that if he did let her loose around the staff she'd be able to stop before hurting anyone.

"You'll be there when I practice right? Stop me from feeding too much?"

He offered her his forearm, slicing a vein for her. His blood was cold and a little bitter, but very refreshing.

"I will be there for you for all lessons, and will attend to your needs. It may seem strange to do this with an adult, but you are dealing with brand-new instincts and it will take time. I also asked a friend who regenerates to help, in case of any mishaps."

She nodded, still relying on touch and hearing more than her eyes to find the cut in his arm. She drank deeply listening to him, the taste was different, but better than the bland meals she was used to before turning.

She pulled back after a moment, grinning slightly. "I actually don't feel hungry, well as hungry anymore. That's never happened before." She looked up at him her blue eyes looking more clear. "And I may be an adult, but because of my conditions I was always sheltered." She licked her lips. "Though I think we need to dim the lights for a bit. Hurts a little, everything is so bright."

He sat patiently while she drank, then healed the wound and rolled his sleeve back up. "Good. I will get the dimmers." He got up to do so.

"Your transformation will eventually help you to be much more independent. Unfortunately until you learn to live as a vampire it's something of a hindrance in some ways."

"Thank you." She tucked the hair from her face licking her lips. The taste was something she knew she'd have to get used to, and so far it wasn't as upsetting to her as she thought it would be.

"So baby steps. I'm used to it, as long as I can still play music I'm pretty okay with it. Learning to handle everything else should be easier once I have a flute that I don't break." She grinned.
