TYPE OF ANIMAL.

2. unusual. foxes, falcons, ferrets! it's not completely unheard of for someone to take care of these creatures, but still out of the ordinary.

4. fantasy. unicorns, dragons, or something else out of storybook lore. canon-specific creatures (like kneazles from harry potter, or brahmin from the fallout universe) are also welcome.

[How it got in is a mystery. Through an open window, probably, but that's quite the climb. It's possible someone brought it into the school and, for whatever reason, just left it, allowing it to make its way here. Still, one way or another, there is a small calico kitten sitting beside the chair of the host club's vice-president, working on their budget.

He is attempting to ignore the piteous mews coming from the creature as it protests its empty (for five minutes) food bowl. Which he will maintain was the rest of the club's idea -- feeding the animal.]

[Kise is in Ouran High School for a job. He's been hired by a certain Akemi-san to model the clothes she has designed for her Fashion Design and Management elective and she's apparently a fan. Today is the day for the photo shoot and tomorrow he's all set for a short runway show. The job is fun for the most part since the clothes are very wearable and comfortable and Kise's never one to turn away from admiration or fawning, businesslike and brisk as it is at times.]

[Another perk is that he gets to share the spotlight with a cute calico kitten named Lucky who is apparently an accessory of sorts. The kitten's coloring compliments the clothes he wears and they both look spectacular (and oh so adorable) in the prints when he saw them. For some reason, though, the kitten has managed to escape and Kise has joined in the search party.]

[Eventually, he finds himself walking down a hallway. He glances up at the sign that reads "Fourth Music Room" and since he hears no music coming from behind the doors, he reaches for the doorknob to peer inside. Lucky might be there after all. Well, he if he had any expectations of what could be inside, it wasn't the large gathering of girls around tables while they have coffee and tea.]

[It's a bit surprising and Kise has to stare for a bit before he realizes that all eyes have turned to him. And just like that, Kise smiles, all charm and warmth.]

Excuse me. Sorry to interrupt but have you ladies seen a a cute little calico kitten around here by any chance?

[Kyouya has been very pointedly not paying attention to the kitten. Even with its insistent little paws threatening to claw his uniform trousers to get the attention it wants. Cats, he's decided, are both far smarter and far more irritating than they're given credit for. They pick out the person in the room least likely to give them attention and then attempt to demand it. ...Rather like Tamaki, really.

Normally, he wouldn't have a problem putting the little thing on the table while he worked, level with his hands. He even thought about it when it first padded over. But Renge keeps looking at him, and, well, they don't need another repeat of her announcing an engagement. She doesn't need to hit every nail on the head with little quirks.

Kyouya stands as soon as the doors of the Host Club open. He may not be occupied with customers, but that doesn't mean he isn't working. He gives a very calm, very easy smile at the words and replies.]

It wandered in here about an hour ago. We wondered where it came from.

[The girls nearest him seem happy enough to help him out and he would have been happy enough to get their assistance. His attention is diverted by the dark-haired boy who stands up and speaks from the side. He smiles very calmly, easily but Kise can tell that he's more than what he seems. In turn, he straightens and offers him an equally calm smile. Standing before the other boy makes him feel as if he should be more alert, more professional. Of course, he can adapt.]

Did he cause anyone any trouble? We're really sorry about that. We should have kept a better eye on him.

[But kittens are tiny and wily. It's probably embarrassing to be outsmarted by something so small and innocent-looking but then again at least Lucky is found and he's safe.]

He doesn't understand why he needs to be watched for the afternoon. He could always figure out how to get the replicator to work for him. Probably abuse the privilege until the thing broke and the dining area was filled with junk food. (Which constitutes anything fried for a carnivore.)

Spock had a Sehlat when he was young, didn't he? So this guy shouldn't be much of a problem, no?

He's sitting on a couch, waiting for him to open the door.]

Spock wasn't entirely prepared to spend his free shift monitoring a lion either, but nonetheless he accepted the task from the owners who simply did not have the time. It seemed that the animal possessed more sentience than was normal for their species. Indeed, he had attended the care of his father's Sehlat when he was young, a creature that was a close equivalent between a bear and a saber-toothed tiger of early Terran days. Vulcan children were certainly never late with the dinner for their Sehlat.

It has been a long time since that was his responsibility, but he still takes this animal's needs in mind, entering the threshold of his quarters at the given hour. A slight tension slacks off of him as he sees the animal across the room at the replicator, rather than waiting to pounce on him. He lowers his phaser. ]

I was informed that you could understand me. Shadow?

[He paws once more at the wall panel and arches his head back at the pointy eared one. He chuffs and rumbles at him in greeting, human speech is heard over the growls via a device which allows him to speak.]

Hi. I can hear you.

[He pads over to Spock and scents the air around him.]

A very particular chain of events has transpired this afternoon upon Haru's return home from school, a chain of events that has involved large cardboard boxes, a fair bit of newspaper, inventive use of a first aid kit, and the sacrificing of a few old towels.

And that is all before Haru gets on the phone and calls his best friend.

What he says when Makoto answers is very simple: "What do you know about tanuki?"

That's all, no context. Not even an indication of whether he means the tanuki of superstition or the actual animal. (Though to be fair, everyone knows something about tanuki, even if it's just the schoolyard song about their balls. So it's likely a safe bet that Haru's not asking about that.) He does, however, sound like he's rather intent on the question, and not merely asking out of idle curiosity.
