Sleeping Arrangements

🛏️ — ONE BED: There's one bed, two people, and a chair that looks considerably less comfortable than either of you is willing to admit.

🚪 — WRONG ROOM: Both of you have perfectly good reasons to believe this room belongs to you, and someone has already made themselves comfortable in the bed.

😴 — ALREADY ASLEEP: Someone has fallen asleep in a bed that belongs to someone else, who has just come home to find them there.

🤒 — SICKBED: Bed rest is doctor's orders, but the person in bed has other ideas, and their visitor has caught them trying to carry those ideas out.

🏥 — HOSPITAL BED: A patient wakes to find unexpected company beside the bed, with plenty of questions about how they got there.

🌙 — NIGHTMARE: A bad dream sends someone looking for company, though explaining why they've appeared in the doorway at this hour is another matter.

💌 — PILLOW TALK: The lights have been out for ages, and a conversation that started innocently has wandered into territory neither of you planned to discuss tonight.

😳 — WOKE UP TOGETHER: Last night's sleeping arrangement made perfect sense at the time, but morning has arrived, and now you have to get out of bed.

🧠 — NO MEMORY: Someone wakes in an unfamiliar bed beside a familiar person, with absolutely no recollection of how they got there.

🥀 — EXES: A shortage of space puts former partners back in a familiar bed, where knowing exactly how the other person sleeps may prove inconvenient.

🧱 — MIDDLE LINE: A pillow divides the bed into strictly separate territories, though the agreement has several practical flaws.

🪽 — BAD FIT: The bed wasn't built for wings, horns, a tail, or whatever else makes ordinary sleeping arrangements a problem.

🎭 — UNDER THE BED: Someone is hiding beneath the bed when another person enters the room, leaving the occupant to carry on a conversation without giving them away.

🧳 — LAST NIGHT HERE: The room is packed for departure, but the bed is still made, and someone has come to spend one last night before leaving.

Getting Into Bed

🕯️ — NIGHT CLOTHES: An unplanned overnight stay means borrowing something to sleep in, and the available wardrobe belongs to someone else.

🗝️ — THE INVITATION: There's room in the bed, and an invitation to join its occupant leaves the guest to decide what exactly they've been offered.

🌗 — CHANGED YOUR MIND: The offer to share was declined earlier, but someone has returned to the bedside to ask whether it still stands.

The Night Itself

🔀 — RESTLESS: One of you keeps tossing and turning, and the other has finally had enough of pretending to sleep through it.

🏷️ — TALKING IN SLEEP: A name slips out in someone's sleep, leaving their companion with a question they weren't expecting to ask.

🩹 — PAIN: Lying down only makes the pain worse, and there's someone close enough to notice every attempt to get comfortable.

🪟 — OUTSIDE NOISE: A sound beyond the bedroom wakes you both, though getting out from under the covers to investigate is another matter.

❓ — DREAM QUESTION: Someone wakes with a question from their dream that suddenly seems too important to leave until morning.

🪔 — BODY HEAT: The bed isn't warm enough, and there's a perfectly serviceable source of warmth on the other side of it.

Daylight

🍽️ — BREAKFAST IN BED: Someone brings breakfast into the bedroom and discovers that their timing could have been better.

⏱️ — OVERSLEPT: Morning has gotten well ahead of you, and whatever you were supposed to be doing by now will have to wait.

🌃 — FIRST ONE UP: An attempt to slip out of bed without waking anyone fails when a voice comes from the other side.

🏘️ — SOMEBODY KNOCKS: An early visitor arrives before either of you has worked out what to say about the sleeping arrangements.

🌘 — THE OTHER SIDE IS EMPTY: Someone wakes alone, but the other person hasn't gone far, and there's still a warm place waiting for them.

Places to Sleep

🚉 — TRAIN BERTH: The sleeping compartment has just enough room for the two of you, provided nobody needs to move around.

📷 — CHILDHOOD ROOM: An overnight visit puts someone in the bedroom where their companion grew up, surrounded by things that have been there much longer than they have.

🔧 — IMPROVISED BED: The room has nowhere suitable to sleep, so you're going to have to make something out of what's available.

🤐 — TEMPORARY SHELTER: A crowded refuge leaves you with a small sleeping space to share and precious little privacy beyond the bedding.

Unusual Bedfellows

⚔️ — ENEMIES: Necessity has put two people who don't trust each other in the same bed, with no guarantee that either will actually get any sleep.

🪄 — MAGICAL SLEEP: Someone has fallen under an enchanted sleep, and the only way to reach them is to enter their dreams.

🛣️ — THE BED REMEMBERS: A bed recognizes someone who hasn't slept in it for years, and begins behaving as though they've never left.

💎 — NEVER SLEEPS: One of you has no need for sleep, but the other would rather have company than be left alone for the night.

🐉 — TRANSFORMED: An overnight transformation has made a previously comfortable sleeping arrangement considerably more complicated.

🔒 — RETURNED KEY: A regular overnight arrangement has ended, and someone has come to return the key that used to let them into this room.

💵 — ANOTHER NIGHT: The invitation was only supposed to last one night, but morning has come and someone would like to stay a little longer.

Spice

💍 — MARRIAGE BED: The wedding is over, the guests have gone, and the two of you are finally alone with a bed everyone expects you to share.

💋 — JUST ONE KISS: Someone suggested a goodnight kiss, and now neither of you has made much progress toward actually going to sleep.

🔥 — TOO MUCH CLOTHING: Someone has decided the bed would be considerably more comfortable with fewer layers involved, and the other person is welcome to offer an opinion.

🫦 — ON TOP: Someone ends up straddling the other on the mattress, and whatever put them there is suddenly less important than what happens next.

🪞 — THE MIRROR: The bed faces a mirror, offering a view neither of you usually gets.

👄 — KISS ME HERE: There's a particular place someone wants kissed, and the bed is a comfortable place to explain where.

⛓️ — HANDS TO YOURSELF: Someone proposes a rule against touching, with the bed providing an exceptionally inconvenient place to test it.

💕 — AGAIN?: One of you was under the impression that you were finished for the night, but the other has a question.

🎲 WILDCARD: Choose a bed, put your characters somewhere near it, and give them a reason to stay.

[ lady steps through the door, ignoring the boy trailing in behind her in favor of staring at the single bed in the middle of the room and not much else. it's not like beggars can be choosers, and when a storm has stalled all transportation in and out of the city for the forseeable future it's not like she'll complain when a room is offered at no cost.

the room coming with a roommate but no personal space can earn a few complaints. but one after another the hostel owner had sent people into rooms until it was the two of them left.

[ Shrenne, for all intents and purposes, is a heavy sleeper. Once she dozes off, she will stubbornly cling to slumber, hands on her lap and head leaned against the nook between the window and the seat's back.

A little sloppy, perhaps, her breathing loud on the ears, and uncharacteristically haphazard.

The contrast is worth noticing, for what it's worth.

What changes, however, is this: she stirs, etes scrunched as her fingers wring, shrinking onto herself like a wounded animal. Holding onto the book she was reading before dozing off, she grips the poor tome as though she were afraid of it getting away from her, slipping past her fingers like sand.

Were she awake, perhaps she'd even start tapping her feet like a rabbit stomping away.

The worst part is this: it's entirely, fully silent, so different from the woman Dokja has come to know.

No complaints. No snide remarks, nothing.

Somehow they'd managed to get Mizuki to Alaska without too much in the way of danger or messing up the schedule he was on for work. They'd kept in touch, obviously, given the thing that's going to keep them connected for many years to come in one way or another. The first trimester had been reasonably kind to Tyler whose experience of pregnancy had been getting hungrier and hornier and somehow skipping morning sickness completely.

So when the other man had come to stay he'd met Tyler's twin sister, Alyson. The nervous energy from Tyler had been because he really wanted it to go well, especially given how much he likes Mizuki. Lucky considering he's carrying the man's child.

It's the end of the first day of Mizuki's visit and they're finally collapsing into bed together after dinner together downstairs with Alyson. Stripping down to his boxers and a vest top, Tyler pads over to the double bed he's going to be sharing, patting the spot next to him once he's slid onto the mattress. His body has changed noticably now that he's almost at 20 weeks. His belly is visually rounder and heavier, his usually tiny breasts slightly fuller now as his body prepares for parenthood.

"Feels like I've been waiting to get into bed with you for so long."

Mizuki crawled into bed with Tyler, rolling onto his side to look at him. He was dressed down in pajama bottoms, his boxer briefs peeking over the top, and a tank top. It had been a long day. Mizuki felt like

His eyes traveled from that handsome face to his swollen breasts and the round belly. He's going to be a father. It still feels magical. He put a hand on Tyler's stomach and rubbed. "Yeah, me too," he said, voice soft. He moved his eyes from Tyler's stomach, to Tyler's face and leaned in to press a soft kiss to Tyler's cheek, then his lips.

"I'm still on cloud nine about this," he said, scootting closer. "I wish I could see you more often."

The warmth of the other man's hands against the swell of his belly draws a sigh out of him, the kiss leaves him smiling for a moment. A few months ago maybe he would have been embarrassed about it. He's learned a lot about himself lately, though. Especially about how much he's finding himself wanting to do better and be better than his parents were for him.

He loved his mom so much but she had been troubled and, ultimately, hadn't been the safe space he'd needed her to be before she died. What happened is going to be part of him and Alyson forever, but he wants desperately to do the best he can for the baby growing inside him.

"Same. But I get it's not that simple. And I'm not gonna ask you for something you can't give. I knew enough when I chose to keep the baby that it was gonna be like this."

His fingers find Mizuki's forearm, gently stroking along to his hand and then lacing their fingers together.

"I want to share as much as possible with you but I know you're worried about stuff. Like people finding me."

"It's going to be worth it." Mizuki rubbed gentle circles on Tyler's stomach until Tyler intertwined their fingers, then gave the other man's hand a squeeze.

A sigh escaped him when Tyler mentioned being worried about people finding him. "I'm sure we can make it work as long as we're careful," he said. He put his head on Tyler's shoulder.

"There are other worries," he said after a moment. "I didn't really have a chance to tell you earlier, it's hard to bring up with people outside of Japan, but... Um. I have a curse on me, and I worry about it affecting you a lot. It's why I send a lot of good luck memes to you."

"A curse?"

He had gone to the Shinto shrine in New York like Mizuki had suggested. But he hadn't really thought about it any deeper than just a nice suggestion. He's not sure what to do with the information beyond ask for more.

"How? Why?"

His fingers seem to tighten their grip. Firm but not crushing. Slightly unsure and concerned for the other man.

[ fun facts about him: he runs hot, but has some lingering issues from being on the run so he has an odd habit of sleeping fully dressed, shoes and all. he's also a cuddler, and usually moves into a big spoon position (again, lingering issues). ]
