[ Alone no more. Mark approaches his booth from behind, so he can bop his fist against the top of Ryland's head with a modicum of surprise before joining him. ]

How many is that..? Do I wanna know?

[ A gesture to the coffee cup. ]

[Ryland jolts, nearly spilling the cup as he sets it down to stare wild-eyed at his brother.]

Markie? What are you doing here?

Eh, couldn't sleep - I guess great minds think alike.

[ Great mind love The Denny's. Don't mind him stealing that cup for a quick sip. ]

Saw your bike outside.

[Ignore the lawyer in a nice enough suit sitting in the back of the restaurant with a pot of coffee, a split lip, bloody knuckles and a plate of Moons Over My Hammy. It's been a long day.]

[ On her third cup of coffee, working her way through the stacks of paperwork that take up most of her table and trying to ignore her rumbling stomach. Her subordinates convinced her to leave the office for the day, but they didn't count on her sneaking some of her work out with her. ]

[ a german guy at ~~waffle house~~ denny's at 1am in the good old united states of america? something unnatural has probably brought him here, but he's not worried about that. instead, he's stunlocked in front of the soda machine. why is there a touch screen? what need is there for so many options? he just doesn't get it. ]

[ let's look at the soda machine with all those interesting options, shall we. sprite. pepsi. minute maid. oh wow, there really are some choices here. ]

Are you moving to the side anytime soon?

[ it'd be nice if he wasn't standing in the way, he's got a whole party of people to serve drinks to. the misfortune of losing a bet when his ever reliable fourth wall decides to be petty and lie. ]

I can choose for you if you're having trouble, just say the word.

[It had been a relatively calm swing shift at the ED, but around three, he'd been run out by his charge nurse and co-attending. Jack isn't ready to go home yet so he's got a Grand Slam and his own pot of coffee. It's terrible coffee, but Jack Abbot drinks bad coffee like it's a religion.

His phone sits on the table but he largely ignores it. The Emergency department won't call him in unless it's dire.]

At this point in their relationship she knows where to find him if he isn't at the hospital or at home and she comes over to his table, trying to sneak over as best she can so she can bend down and smooch his scruffy cheek.

"You know you're never going to sleep with all that coffee in you." She teases.

[Option A: She is one of the waitresses, a very klutzy one who will probably spill coffee on you or mess up your order.

Option B: She is sitting alone at a booth, picking at the appetizer platter which is chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and onion rings.]

[Who the hell reads Shakespeare at 3am at a Denny's? This guy does. He's sitting with his book and a large cup of coffee in front of him.]

[Staying up too late working on her reports. Why is she at Denny's? Probably because it's the only place that's still open.

There's an empty coffee mug next to her. She could use a refill.]

[ Imagine a grandpa who lived in the countryside being in awe at a soda fountain. Though in reality, it's just a guy from 900 AD in Dennys somehow. ]

[ She's sitting at a table, nibbling on hashbrowns and a second omelette while reading the local paper. Touch the coffee or her bacon and Laura will probably get cranky. Unless ~~associate~~ friendship is involved, because she might share the table. Or a menu. Maybe.

[A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BACON!

The woman sitting at a table alone seems to be spending more time people-watching with an expression on her face like she's somehow sizing up the others in the room than eating the meal in front of herself. There's a faint glow about her that is at odds with the corporate lighting.

And eventually, her gave lands on you, consideringly, before she lifts a hand to crook a beckoning finger in your direction.]

She's usually curled up in a booth with a mug and her own pot of coffee. Sometimes she'll be picking at something that resembles food. But most of the time it's just the coffee. There's usually a journal at hand, too, and she can be found sketching away or doodling something. Or writing something down.]

[ Being back on Earth has been great, really - he'll never take fresh air, or food, or hot showers for granted again as long as he lives.

The fact it's 2am is irrelevant. He's sleeping fine probably, let's focus on the pancake stack. ]

[Desperate times call for desperate measures. Like drinking extremely sugary coffee at a Denny's to stay awake.

It's not working. He's almost certainly going to fall asleep into his cup.]
