Doing it for the kids
Congratulations, you are now a proud parent. Whether they're driving you crazy, getting in the way of love or filling your whole world, you certainly can't ignore them.
Pick yourself a scenario and get ready for the pitter patter of tiny feet.
- Post your character, canon and preferencees
- Choose a role
- Repliers pick from the below options
- ????
- Profit
Roles
1. Parent and child - One of you is the parent and the other is their blessed offspring (or holy terror).
2. Parent and Parent - Commiserating together on the woes of parenthood
3. Parent and Other (ir)Responsible Adult - Whether they're your kid's school teacher or the new boy/girlfriend about to meet the sprog, your kid is influencing this conversation.
And the scenarios to choose from...
1. The surprise child option - You didn't even know you had a kid, and now they're showing up at your door just announcing you're a parent. Good luck with that.
2. The surprise parent option - No, I am your father.
3. Let's just get through today - it's a special occasion! Whether it's a birthday, Christmas or some other celebration, it's a big day and there's a lot going on. Control the sugar rush and avoid tears before bedtime, and you might just survive it.
4. What did you do!? - The dreaded call from the school has come, and now you've got to march down there and find out what your wayward child is up to today
5. Sick Day - Nobody's going anywhere today, call into work and notify the school, because your child is ILL.
6. Big shoes to fill - This is not your child. They're your little brother, your niece, your best friend's son, their real parents are gone and you're the only one who can step in.
7. Other - Got another idea? Fill your boots! No, not with that, oh god, who's going to clean this up?
1. Playdate - Oh my gosh you'll love my friend, he has a kid too! It's a blind date based solely on being parents, and your kids are there as well. Oh this should be fun.
2. Playdate - A blind date based solely on being parents, but at least you've got some time away from the kids for it. As long as there's no emergencies...
3. Field Trip - You're both chaperoning for the school field trip, I hope you get on well together because that's one long bus journey.
4. Support Group - It's a lonely, difficult road, so it's nice to have somebody to talk to that understands that your sweet, adorable child gets less sweet and adorable after the fourth screaming fit.
5. Your child did WHAT? - You're both called in to the office because your kids have been fighting. Or caught making out. Or otherwise getting in trouble. Who gets the blame here?
6. Other - Go nuts. Literally, kids are hard.
1. Parent/Teacher Conference - Since he started school your child can't stop talking about their amazing/terrible teacher, and now you get to find out for yourself! (Oh no he's hot is optional)
2. Something you should know - You've been on a few dates and things are going well, it's about time to drop the child bomb before things get too serious.
3. Lost and found - Your child has run away/gotten lost, but there's a kind stranger depositing them back in your waiting arms, how do you ever repay them?
4. Over the fence - Your child has lost something in the next door neighbour's garden and they're too scared to go ask for it back themselves, you're up.
5. We're doing all we can - Something terrible has happened and your kid's in hospital, but luckily there's a doctor/nurse/etc on hand to keep you updated
5. Other - A shocking twist in the classic options, choose your own!

She recognizes her Papa's shape but still squints at him when she approaches, ]
Hi, Papa.
FUCK YES
It gets him a lot of looks he doesn't really know how to parse (nor does he really want to try), so he tends to keep to himself, somewhat away from the other parents seemingly clambering over each other to get to their kids.
Leon doesn't need to try when she meets him, clutching at her backpack and squinting up at him like the sun's too bright (though he doesn't think so; file that one away for later). He holds his hand out for her with a subdued smile. ]
Hey, Gracie.
[ His hand drops once he notices the note pinned to her little shirt, and he stoops down on his ankles instead. A woman passing them with her son scoffs loudly at him. For the exposure, though he assumes it's just that they're in what she perceives as her way. ]
What's this?
no subject
She shrugs at his question before her bottom lip starts to tremble.
Her teacher isn't mean and she didn't sound mad but Grace still thinks she might be in trouble. Why else would the teacher want to talk to her parent? Maybe this was because she didn't want to share her crayons with the other children.
But all the note says, scrawled in the teacher's handwriting, is that she needs to speak to Leon tomorrow around 5 pm. ]
no subject
Kiddo, it's okay.
[ Truthfully, he thinks, if it were something urgent or disciplinary, why would she put it off for another day instead of just calling him? ]
Tomorrow problem for me, alright?
[ He tucks her under the chin and presses a kiss to her cheek before rising again, hand finally extended for real this time. ]
Tell you what; I'll cook or order whatever you want tonight. On me. Sound good?
no subject
But she nods, sniffling some, the little kiss helping her to calm down more. As she takes his hand, another source of comfort to feel the warmth and roughness of it, making her feel safe, ]
I want grilled chicken pasta.
[ Which was her name for grilled chicken fettuccine. It was her favorite thing, either made by her parent or a thing they ordered from off the boardwalk. ]
no subject
You've got it.
[ They head out to his Jeep with the kayak tied up top. He hasn't used it in years--not since Grace had been unceremoniously thrust into his willing, but very unready arms--but hasn't been able to will himself to get rid of it. The back is full of equally random accumulation: beach toys, an inflatable alligator, one-and-a-half of Leon's approximately seven first-aid kits, marshmallow roasting sticks, an assortment of towels, and a few forgotten shopping bags.
Which remain forgotten as he helps her into the too-high passenger seat.
Once in on his side, he leans over to present her with a small rubber duck, nodding to the assortment already on the dashboard. ]
Somebody left a new one. You want to decide where to put it, or do you want to keep this one?
[ It wouldn't be the first time. ]
no subject
She looks over at the duck and gasps, ]
Keep!
[ Once it's in her hands, her legs are kicking excitedly, ]
It's a cupcake duck!

*points at eyes points at you*
He looks over at the young boy coming into the shop, the boy he bought the paper from earlier, gives him a small smile and a nod, before going back to the paper.
It was a hot day, and it wasn't even fully summer yet; he didn't mind if people came in to get out of the sun for a bit.
Yesssss
Any other day, perhaps it would be about the sun - even for a boy like Spot, who actually liked to read, there was little point coming into a bookshop since he'd be unlikely to scrape together enough coin for a book when he had more important things to pay for. Perhaps, given the welcome (a rarity for a grubby, unaccompanied kid in a nice establishment), he might consider coming in for a browse, even if he didn't intend to buy.
Neither of those things are why he's here today, though. He gives Henry a brief nod in return and then ducks very deliberately behind some shelves - there is a pretence of looking at the books, but an observant person would probably notice his focus is entirely on the street outside, and everything about him seems tense.
Re: Yesssss
He looks over at the boy and sighs, "Police officers or other children?" He asks, folding his newspaper, trying to figure out the level of intervention that will be needed.

maybe he (as mecha man) ran into billy as shazam at first and then figured out that he was Not in fact, a full-grown man and things just kinda progressed from there to billy living with him, because like hell he's just gonna let this poor kid superhero just be homeless?]
no subject
As Shazam/Captain Marvel he's much less bothered by them since he can play off any weirdness as being basically a magical being.
He would've really respected Robert as Mecha Man so the transition from to him being in Robert's care wouldn't be too hard! I'm happy to start us off unless you have any questions.]

[ Billy is just sitting on a stool kicking his feet. He is a short kid and not just because Robert needs to feed him up. Billy here is just maybe three months out from a proper growthspurt.
He isn't in trouble or anything. He just got targeted by a couple of older bots who were bring bullies while Billy was just trying to go do something normal.
The mall security guard had placed a call to Robert. He wanted to be sure someone could come collect Billy. He even had gotten the small boy a bit of a snack to have while waiting.
It wasn't Billy's first choice to need to be picked up but he understood that since he barely looks ten that adults are not okay with him being out on his own. Which is such a drag as he's actually closer to twelve which totally means he can handle himself. Mostly. It's fine. ]
no subject
He may not be the kid's actual dad, but he had chosen to take him in, and the very idea of leaving him waiting somewhere to be picked up by Robert any longer than necessary made him feel a little sick.
He'd hurried to the mall. There wasn't much information given in the call, just that he needed to be picked up from security... but not why. Probably not anything too serious, despite what the more paranoid part of his mind wants to insist.
Not wanting to leave his dog in a car in the middle of the day in Southern California, Robert scoops Beef into his arms and quickly seeks out the nearest security guard, who directs him where to go.
Soon as he sees the boy, safe and eating from a bag of chips, some of that tension immediately unwinds. Beef wiggles in his arms, eager to go over and greet him (and beg for whatever he's eating).]
Hey, kid. You alright?
no subject
I'm okay. There were some older kids trying to mess with me.
[ The security guard shakes his head. ]
The kid had trash thrown at him. I brought him in to make sure he was fine.
no subject
Thanks for looking out for him.
[He walks over to Billy, pushing Beef into his arms. He's a tough kid, has to have been with what he's been through, but everyone can benefit from Beef hugs. The chubby chihuahua immediately starts trying to lick his face.]
