[This really isn't appropriate. It's not appropriate, right? It's for sure weird, it's definitely weird, but inappropriate is like, it's like if 'weird' leveled up. Some weird is cool, it's okay and it's fine, but it has to stay in the realm of appropriate. Within throwing distance. We're not going to put numbers to it.
Staring at a guy from the hallway of his apartment and trying to determine in the darkness if he's asleep or awake so that you can ask if you can, instead of sleeping in the bed he so generously offered up, throw his blankets onto the floor and watch him sleep until you fall asleep is probably pretty far out of the circumference of weird. Categorically.
It doesn't stop Ryland from shifting his weight in the hallway, almost hoping Clark would simply wake up and notice him there. He'd really made an effort, right! Good ol' college try. Just...sleep would not come without someone being uncomfortably close and guarding him. Unnecessarily so. Ryland spares five seconds being annoyed with Rocky for doing this to him before he ultimately gives it up because he misses the little guy so bad.
Maybe he should just go back to bed and tell Clark in the morning that he slept great. Yeah. That'd be the reasonable and polite thing to do.]
At this point, Lonán is starting to think his avowed distaste for the city has become its own self-fulfilling prophecy. If New York City were an animate entity, he'd swear it's got a grudge against him. And frankly, the feeling is fucking mutual.
Of course, this could happen anywhere in the world. It may actually be a testament to the man's luck that it hasn't happened a hell of a lot more often, given the frequency of his travel. But mechanical errors like the one presently plaguing the hotel's solitary elevator is exactly the reason he prefers to stay on the first floor, and precisely why Lonán himself — had he been allowed to arrange his own travel — never would've opted for a hotel that doesn't offer ground floor accommodations.
It's already well past dark (or whatever counts for it in the city) by the time he makes it back to the hotel to discover he literally can't get back to his room, and the only contacts he's got in the city aren't exactly the type he feels comfortable calling on for this type of favor. They're burgeoning professional acquaintances, and this feels like a precarious ask.
Well, and then there's Matt Murdock. Lonán cringes internally as he shoots off the text to the man: did you stay in tonight?
Patrol through Hell's Kitchen is fairly uninteresting and frankly, Matt has needed a quiet night for a while. It's not without some minor adventure but barely a single blow lands on him in the course of the evening so he'll consider that to be a substantive win. His expectation for the rest of the night is a hot shower and then maybe actually getting to sleep at what his entirely fucked up sleep schedule would cosnider to be a reasonable hour.
Will wonders never cease?
From the rooftop of his apartment building, he makes it back into his bedroom to remove the cowl and the suit when his phone vibrates from where he left it to charge before he went on patrol.
Texts at this time of evening are rarely harbingers of anything particularly positive so he does feel a measure of immediate trepidation when he goes to check it. Lonán. Interesting. It's easily a non-sequitor from their previous text conversation so it feels like an incomplete question. Potentially a leading one for a lawyer.
It isn't in Lonán's nature to play coy. Neither, he thinks, is it in Matt's to allow himself much willful ignorance. The man has got to know that there's more to the idle question than what's initially revealed, and that probably negates any effort on Lonán's part to feel out the situation. Still, he hopes that at least his own hesitation will convey a requisite amount of guilt for what's coming.
i've got a favor to ask, so if you suddenly stop responding and try to claim later your phone fell down a storm grate i'll completely understand.
At least the other man is familiar with Lonán's texting habits by now. Even if he can't see the appearing and disappearing ellipsis that indicates a message in the process of being composed, Matt's got enough evidence to realize Lonán doesn't mean to hold him on tenterhooks; he's just a slow texter.
elevator in my hotel is out and they've got no eta on the fix. can i crash on your couch tonight? i can be out before you get up in the morning.
The night is quiet and still and, honestly, probably a bit too warm for snuggling up close - but she can't help herself. Hers has been a short life but bereft of almost any kind touch whatsoever outside of her replicant, so she takes the opportunities when she can.
She's curled up tightly at his back but she edges closer anyway, shivering with the effort of holding still - her nub of a tail twitching back and forth in aborted wagging motions, her cold nose huffing out a breath right against his skin.
Jesus murmurs, half asleep, and peers over his shoulder to see her.
Immediately he's grinning even though he's exhausted. He flips over, gathering in his arms and holding her to his chest. "I guess this mean K is doing okay?"
She whines - a soft, high sound from somewhere deep in her own chest, but she's quick to push up under his chin, to tuck her face up against his neck and tuck her legs against his chest.
"He's okay," she says, the same way she always says it, which means little more than that he's still active. As long as he has that, as long as he keeps his feet, K is alright. "He's more worried about you."
[Bel's chronic illness can be a reason for him not moving once he gets somewhere--he has a chronic condition that causes fatigue and "brittle bones" and uses a magical walking chair as a mobility aid. Not looking for smut at this time, voicetesting.]

All the while, his hand strokes from her ears to her tail, soothing her.
Re: Guarded!
"He's on patrol. You say that like he doesn't have to worry about anything," she teases, pink tongue flicking over her chocolate nose.
