just call it the Love Island meme
You know the story— a bunch of hot people get a TV show contract and show up to a closed set to spend a few weeks getting hot and bothered over the available bachelor/ettes. Now, forget that story.
Your character has been asked or forced to appear on a televised game show for the pleasure of an interdimensional audience. They must find love, or at least fail at it entertainingly enough for the audience to not vote them off the show! Perhaps elimination will mean death, or maybe it'll just send them to the Loser Corner where there are no cool drinks but also no more pressure to fuck.
Whatever flavor of game show you prefer, this meme is for a Love Island style drama— or perhaps even getting around the jealous love triangle vibes and sabotaging by romancing the whole cast. The world is your oyster.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Put a top level up. Describe what vibes you're looking for, as well as any key permissions. Don't be afraid to ask questions or brainstorm what kind of game show you want to play with. Hit each other up, and get your love game on.
GAME SHOW VIBES
A. Low Stakes: You *probably* agreed to be here, or otherwise aren't being threatened with death or the like. You're just here to find love! Maybe there's nobody for you back home or perhaps you just reached the end of your story, but you're absolutely game for the opportunity to catch feels on the other side. Maybe it's the type of show where you don't get sent home early, but all have to make it to the end together! Or maybe there's some "Second chance" situation on the Loser Corner. Whatever it is, it's a Love Vibe, low on the horror.
B. Fuck or Die: It's one of Those Games. You've got to make niceys with your cast— one or all of them— if you don't want to get eliminated, whether that's the literal or metaphorical sense. Elimination may lead to a Loser Corner set where there are fewer provisions for the cast, where people have to fight to survive, or maybe they're actually straight up dead and hanging out as ghosts. This is your fuck-horror option. Or maybe just a romance-horror option? up to you!
C. Fuck AND Die: JUST KIDDING. You're not allowed to make love on this show, even if you fall in it! You want that prize money? Then you've got to resist saucy scenarios, one-bed setups, and all sorts of aphrodisiacs with a cast that really butters your biscuit. If you can resist the urge to get jiggy with it, maybe you'll survive! Or win money! But aren't some risks worth taking...?
D. Catch 'Em All: You're on a show where you're not just supposed to love one— you've gotta connect with all! Maybe you won't actually fuck the whole cast, but the crew is counting on you to make TV-worthy connections with everyone, and they're willing to pull whatever bullshit challenges it takes to get that chemistry going.
E. Variety: Like multiple prompts above? Have a totally different idea? Go for it! Reference your favorite trashy dating shows!
SETTINGS:
I. Island! There's a Cool Fun Island and a Not So Cool Island for losers! Sure, this usually means tropical, but there's other kinds of islands out there too. Either way, you're thinking outdoorsy vibes and outdoorsy seclusion, with lots of places to explore.
2. Hotel! Or Mall, or Other Building! Basically, you're stuck indoors together, in a modern and urban chic setting.
3. Futuristic! Better hope there's not an impostor, because you're all the way out in space. Maybe it's a cruiser or perhaps it's an entire space station. This show just went intergalactic!
4. Town! You're trapped in some cute little village somewhere made just for this. Maybe there's even farmland! What challenges will there be?
5. Other! There's probably a million settings you could come up with, so don't limit yourself to these.
PROMPTS & IDEAS
1. The Intro: You arrived at orientation together, and by circumstance or intent, you've reconvened after the days festivities. You barely know each other; maybe you can catch up in a secluded area around the set.
2. The Challenge: You're not just here to date, you're also here to do wacky partner activities together to bond! Pick a partner and get to rock climbing or bumper cars or synchronized swimming. You'll probably win a really cool prize if you do!
3. The Date: Speaking of cool prizes, maybe one of them is the chance to go on an actually nice date with a partner of your choice! Is this your first time together, or have you been trying to go steady as the days go by?
4. The Drama: Tensions are likely to run high in a setting like this! Are your characters beefing over a shared love interest, or has there been something as dramatic as a murder? All's fair on intergalactic television.
5. The Confession: Tensions are high, but the stakes have just gotten higher; you're in love, and you're ready to make it known, whether it's for the sake of your feelings or for a strategic move forward in the rankings. Do you make your feelings known in front of everyone, or steal away for a special moment?

a paint-balloon throwing activity had ended with Maya and Daisuke in last place against their more coordinated co-stars, and now it's their job to clean up the paint on the basket ball court outside the hotel where a parking lot usually ought to go.
the weather is hot and the required outfit for the challenge is a white shirt under long white over-alls, which does make for a very cute paint-splattered look, but it also makes washing things off more of a refreshing punishment than it normally would be.]
This isn't so bad,
[Maya observes, scrubbing the support pole of the basketball hoop down. they're lucky; whatever detergent they've been given really removes the paint from the activity, and ONLY the paint from the activity.]
Sure, we don't get to do the spa thing... but I'm kinda getting tired of those.

[Flynn settles in on the low-growing palm tree's trunk with Muffy, passing her a brightly decorated drink in a bright green coconut.
this whole adventure isn't exactly the way Flynn imagined it would be. he's behind everyone else, for one thing— toward the younger end of the group, a whole criminal, from a completely different time period... he's barely just gotten a handle on the flip phones they've gotten to talk to each other on here. the compulsory nature of it all doesn't help either, but more than anything, some drama among others in the cast really seems to have tanked the mood.
it's not like their castmate who had gotten angry didn't have their points— but as the one who'd fought with them the most had argued, not everyone had something to return to. it's just kind of a mess, so Flynn isn't surprised everyone had scattered, but as much as he likes to play the bad boy who doesn't need anybody... he doesn't want to be alone on this strange island either.
that, and man. he really doesn't like to see a gal look lonely, either.]

✨ In canon, there's a game called Ai☆Stars where players can play as a self-insert character and date the ES idols. To promote the game, some of the idols go on "dates" and act out romantic scenes from the game with each other. Maybe the dating show is related to that?
✨ His canon also has an idol mafia (lol), including a guy who used to ~control the entertainment industry from behind the scenes~. And it's said that in the old days, the kinds of variety & reality shows that idols used to go on were more "extreme." So I'm thinking the dating show might be a revival of one of those more "extreme" shows, or else it's run by the idol mob and Hiyori was sent there as an act of sabotage.
✨ I'm fine with different prompts and with taking this in a dark direction, a fluffy direction, a comedic direction or a smutty one (or some combination). I'm also okay with AUing things to some extent - e.g, if we want to get around the "idols aren't supposed to openly date or have sex" thing, I can AU him as some other type of celebrity.
