A message from Ilya Rozanov asking to meet was the last thing he expected to receive today. There wasn't much in it, let alone an explanation of why the other man wanted to meet, so honestly Scott wasn't sure what to think.

But he couldn't imagine Rozanov asking to meet him for no reason. In fact, he suspected that Rozanov would only ask to him if it was something he couldn't talk about with anyone else. So it was that thought that had Scott heading out that evening to the little dive bar that they agreed on, a place where they could have some privacy despite its public nature. And he couldn't help wondering about the whole thing the entire way down there.

Ilya has turned this over in his head about a thousand times before finally making the decision to contact Hunter. It could go very badly, or awkwardly, or Shane might end up upset over it, but- Ilya doesn't have anyone else to talk to. Not about this.

He sends the message to meet quickly before he can stop himself again, hoping that Hunter doesn't think he wants to meet to shit on his life or his decision to come out. Nothing like that. Luckily he agrees, and Ilya feels both relieved and incredibly nervous about doing this. He wishes Shane could be here, but he's in Ohio, and then Florida and California before coming back around to Boston. It feels like ages from now. So maybe it's good he's doing this now. He feels like he's going crazy.

Ilya shows up early to the bar, ordering himself a drink, fidgeting with it the entire time until he sees Hunter walk into the bar. He lifts his finger just slightly to catch his attention, then takes a long sip of his vodka.

There is a part of him that couldn't help being a bit suspicious about Rozanov's reasons for meeting, but honestly he assumed that if he wanted to talk shit about him he'd do it in public, as he often had during their hockey careers. So it had to be something else if he wanted to speak to him of all people in private.

The bar is small enough that he spots Rozanov after a quick look around, and after grabbing a beer at the bar he made his way over and slid into the booth across from him.

"Hey."

"Hi." This is already so awkward and Ilya wonders if maybe he made a mistake coming here. He's not used to second guessing himself in this way, and he doesn't want it to show, so he takes a deep breath and mentally pulls himself together.

"I would have gotten drink for you. Next one is on me." Casual. Normal. "Is nice here in New York. Even dive bars here are classy."
