A ~~blatant ripoff of~~ respectful homage to this.

Sometimes you just crave a gentle, loving touch...
and sometimes, you want to shake someone til the change flies out of their pockets.

Reply to other characters, RNG, and:

Drag them by the arm; hopefully no square dancing will ensue, because this isn't the wanton cruelty meme.

Grab them by the front of their shirt, possibly shoving them back. Also optional: shouting in their face.

Take them by the hips to carefully move them out of your way.

Smack them upside the head and deal with the repercussions.

Grip them by the back of the neck like a reenactment of a cat with kittens.

Put a hand on their back to steer them somewhere.

Point sternly at a chair (adverb negotiable) and tell them to sit down.

Push them back down when they try to get out of bed (perhaps involving illness, injury, or sleep deprivation).

Press a finger to their lips to shut them up.

Put a hand on their knee while sitting next to them, to discourage them from standing up.

Slap their hand away from something they shouldn't touch.

Grab their hair (or tie, or whatever) and yank.

Slam a door shut before they can leave the room. Alternatively: IN THEIR FACE.

Physically pick them up and carry them.

Grip their jaw to force eye contact.

Pin them with their arms behind their back, like you're the next Bruce Willis.

Slam them into a wall. Ouch.

Wrestle/pin them to the ground like this is WWE.

Trip them, because you are literally or figuratively seven years old.

Engage in an elaborate, overly aggressive, or perhaps secret handshake.

[ Setsu has resolved that, from now on, they will not kill Sha-Ming. They will keep a cool head. They will not let him get under their skin.

That does not stop them from having an edge to their voice as they address him, nor does it make their posture any less tense and rigid as they stand there, a few paces away, with a hand on their hip. ]

[ look, phantom's as proud as anyone that rain is kind of their unofficial ambassador to the humans of the ministry. he's frater's partner, which is really cool, and he's learning how to help do administrative things that frater does, which is also pretty cool. still, rain's maybe taken on a little too much lately. phantom can forgive frater for not realizing, if only because it's in frater's nature to also try to do too much, then eventually crash. he can't do a lot about that, unfortunately, except to pop in on his summoner now and then to give him a little boost.

rain, though?

when rain comes through into the common area of the ghoul dorms, phantom practically pounces him, little form and little arms literally lifting the taller ghoul up a few inches off the floor-- and then tossing him onto the couch. he points a stern finger at the other man, night-sky eyes narrowed into serious (as serious as phantom ever is, anyway) slits. ] Coat off, Rainbow. [ then he turns to haul a big electric blanket into his arms, trying not to trip over the edge as he goes to plug it in next to the couch. ] You were just sick! You're gonna get sick again if you don't slow down a little bit.

[ he shakes the blanket out as best he can, boosting the heat up to the highest setting and then holding it out threateningly. ] You can ask the rest of us to help you do stuff, you know? [ .. well.. most of them, anyway. dew's probably kind of useless for all the administrative tasks, but he's great at other things. and phantom doesn't have the best attention span sometimes, but he's also self-aware enough to know that he'll focus really hard if it means being praised after. plus it would be taking a little burden off rain's shoulders, so he'd do his best even if no one told him good job. ]
