The Slave Auction Meme

* Leave a comment with the character's name, fandom, and whether your character will be playing the part of 'slave' or 'master', plus preferences for scenarios if you have any.
* Respond to others with one of the scenarios below or feel free to make up your own.
* Please remember to be respectful of others while you play
Warning: Be aware that this meme deals with dark subjects like slavery and may also contain non-consensual/dubiously consensual sex, violence, and kink.
SLAVES
1. The Newbie - This is your very first auction and you don't quite know what to expect. Hopefully you remember your training and don't disgrace yourself in front of your new master. Hopefully someone thinks you're worth buying at all.
2. The Oldtimer - You've been bought and sold and bought again so many times. You've seen it all before and don't think this time is going to be much different. In fact, the only real anxiety you've got is whether or not someone's going to pay for a more than slightly used slave.
3. The Pet - You're a pleasure slave. A bed warmer. A decorative piece of artwork. You're meant to look pretty and be pleasing and not much else.
4. The Guard - Your master hired you because of your ability to swing a sword or shoot a gun, not your looks.
5. The Escape Artist - Somehow you always manage to squirm out of your master's chains. Too bad you seem to get caught after a while. Maybe your next daring escape will be permanent. Then again, maybe your next master has special ways of keeping you locked up.
6. The Undercover - You aren't a slave at all, you're just pretending to be one. Why? Well that's up to you. Either way, your cover is blown if you don't act the part.
7. The Specialist - You have a skill that no one else has. Something rare and valuable. Something your master needs more than anything else.
MASTERS
1. The Customer - You've owned slaves before and this trip to the market is nothing new to you. Still, you're hoping to find something worth your while.
2. The Gift - Someone bought a pet for you, isn't that nice of them? Or maybe it isn't so nice. Did you even want a slave in the first place? Well you're stuck with one now.
3. The Giver - You're selecting a slave for someone else, and they need to be perfect. Perhaps you'd better test them out first to make sure you're getting your money's worth.
4. The Trainer - You specialize in taming unruly slaves and making them over into perfect, obedient, well-trained pets.
5. The Rebel - You hate the idea of slavery, but the system isn't going to go away any time soon, so the next best thing is to buy up any slave you can get your hands on and free them, right?
6. The Companion - You want someone to be with you always, someone you can talk to and depend on, someone who will never leave your side. It's a good thing that money can buy that these days.
7. The Undercover - You're not actually a Master. You're at the auction for an entirely different reason. Maybe it's special policework, maybe you're trying to hunt down a certain someone. Either way, your cover is blown unless you act the part.
As always, feel free to use a combination of scenarios or make up your own if you have other ideas.

Rowan O'Cleary | OC | OTA
Master: Another fae court or human government or w/e is trying to bribe him, or his parents have decided that he needs a slave/bodyguard, even while out among the humans, so gift and companion would work best for him.]

And he doesn't say a word, at least not while Rowan's parents are still in the room.]

But she'd make sure that her son had something that would watch his back, since there were few in the Winter Court that liked anything that reminded them of Summer. And Rowan, with his beeswax and woodsmoke scent and golden glimmer when he went without his glamour... well. He'd clearly been born to the wrong court.
He hadn't said much, nothing at all, really. He'd just given his father the curtest of nods, then a deeper one with a small smile to his mother. Their relationship was... strained. But she did her best, and he only had the one mother. He knew she was miserable here, and he held no fault to her for her distance.
Which left him staring at a man- no, wolf shifter, who looked just as thrilled as he smelled to be standing there in front of him, collar binding him with a leash dangling from it. Silver corded through it all, but covered with leather to keep from burning his new... toy? Guard? He had no idea what they were thinking.
This was why he so rarely came back to court. Or Underhill itself. Bloody politics.]
I expect you have a name, aye? Mine's Rowan.
no subject
He's been a slave in varying fae courts for years, primarily used as a pit wolf fighting creatures and people. This is the first time he's been allowed real clothing in a while. The first time he's been asked a question in months.]
Cervantes.
[His voice is low, almost creaking with disuse.]

def wanna try a slave role for him. a mixture of #2 (oldtimer) and #7 (specialist)?
throw in #3 if we feel like a chance for fluff. maybe his master (or someone in his master's household) pities him or develops feelings for him.
perhaps he can be used for breeding valuable eggs.
m/m breeding with a human results in "dead" but highly valuable eggs.
m/m breeding with another dragon results in "live" eggs that if hatched, the result is a dragon m or f with 100% chance of being oviparous.
m/f breeding with a human results in a human with a chance of being oviparous.
m/f breeding with a dragon, she produces an egg that if hatched, the result is another dragon with 100% chance of being oviparous. }

if slave: he's loyal, doting, and potentially an incredibly effective bodyguard. orphaned since he was young, so likely an (2) old-timer, but also open to 1, 3-4, 7. let's discuss. even 6 if he's doing an assassination and we can still make it shippy...
if master: (5) a passing mercenary using his earnings to purchase a useful companion (for example, an older man to pose as his guardian or older brother while traveling, or anyone who looks useful for the business of assassinations and body erasing, etc) ]

Lydia looked at her new acquisition, collared with a shock collar and marked as unbroken. "So. Two hearts. How did you keep that hidden so long? And 'John Smith'? A fake name because you lied to them or because they just didn't know that it was once the most common name in England? And what would you like me to call you?"
A wry smile. "I'm afraid 'a free man' isn't on the table unless you can bring the government down or rewrite history somehow."
no subject
The Doctor feels his hearts sink because this means he'll need to be clever for his freedom. "Not much into politics, me. That all depends what do you want rewritten?"
no subject
She shrugged. "But that is, of course, impossible. Time travel would create too many paradoxes to be real. And I should probably ask what you're good at. I don't expect you to be happy as a slave any more than I was, but I can at least make things not truly suck before taking you to Canada in about five years."

SecUnit | Murderbot | summoned by the meme since this is basically canon!
Or maybe this is more of a disassembly line? Surreptitiously, first spying left and right to check no one's paying it any attention, SecUnit leans forward on its toes to peer up the length of the row at the other bots gathered with it, gauging how messed up they are.
No surprise that there aren't any other Security Units here. They're too specialised and too expensive to replace (unless they're as chronically defective as SecUnit, apparently). Most of the ones here are simpler designs, mostly haulers and cargo bots. They're larger, more rudimentary. Useful. (Good for them, SecUnit supposes.)
Which probably doesn't bode well for it, especially given the piece of wire a passing technician so kindly tossed around SecUnit's neck, rearranging the attached sign until it sits squarely in the middle of its chest for every prospective buyer to see. A warning scrolls across the LED screen in an unambiguous typeface: FOR SPARES AND REPAIRS ONLY.]
no subject
One of those would definitely solve all of PeachTrees problems, they had a hodgepodge of other units that shared parts, or could share modified parts, with a SecUnit, and instead of bringing them down here one or two at a time, it would be easier to take the whole unit back to PeachTrees to disassemble it there, and he could even send the identification tags and all serial numbers back when he was done so they'd know he'd done exactly what he said he was going to.
And if he was surprised that it actually worked -along with a good percentage of the cost on top since he knew that bribery was usually more effective than threats- he didn't show it, just nodded at the unit, knuckling idly at the corner of his eye as the sign was removed, "Come on, let's go. You're with me now."

This guy's a scrapper, isn't he? Or, if he isn't, he could definitely play one on the media satellites (Strife in the Galaxy-worthy, for sure. Maybe playing too much to type for a premium show like Sanctuary Moon.)
SecUnit isn't quite done casting him yet before Techie issues a direct command - somewhere in the background of its feed, the phantom limb of its broken governor module fizzes impotently - and SecUnit blinks a little stupidly at him, like it hasn't fully understood what he said. A little ridiculous, really, given its processing power but there's a cold sense of dread starting to creep down its synthetic spine, the beginnings of real panic settling heavily into its extremities.
Weirdly, it feels as though its fingertips are filled with static. Numbness fills its feet, making it almost impossible to move.
But it lurches forward anyway. Marches itself out of the parade of equally defective machines to trail dumbly in Techie's wake, processors grinding like they're trying to reboot.
This... This probably won't end well, will it?]
no subject
Gone was the confident scrapper he'd been in the market, replaced by someone used to making himself small, staying out of sight, "I'm Techie, I know it's a title, not a name, but it's mine. Do you have one? Name, I mean, not just designation or serial number." He shook his head, almost as if trying to shake something off, "But, um if that's all you've got I'll take that, too."
