Let's see. I had an iced coffee and a slice of left over pizza for breakfast, for lunch I had...wait, I didn't have like, really anything for lunch but I did have a protein bar after rehearsal, and then for dinner I got crab Rangoon and some chicken lo mein.
[If it's possible for the emotion to come across her wolfish face, it does.
Perhaps the creature really doesn't want to deal with a wolf...though maybe he too is under the aura of the Great White Wolf and merely sees and overly large dog. Either way? She takes off for only a moment to being him two bags filled with dried fish and meat, leaving it a few feet away from him before heading to the edge of his space, laying down on her own belly to watch him worriedly.]
At first he scrambles to his feet because that is a wolf and despite his love of animals, he has not had great experience with them as the black pelt around his shoulders tells a tale, and errs on the side of caution. He prepares for an attack, arm held up, a deep rumble of a growl bubbling in his chest-
But...she doesn't jump at him?
She bolts...and returns with gifts?
He cocks his head, observing this strange one, and slowly relaxes, bending over to pick up and examine the contents of the bags, his left eye glinting gold and he watches her out of the corner.
Food?
He chuffs a noise of further confusion, pulling out a strip of what looked like venison. He looked at it, then knelt down, and held it out to her.
A soft huff of her own, and she taps the ground with her paw. No. You first, dear child. Her tail slowly wags, both from worry and in muted pleasure that he's willing to take food.
She half ponders running back to find some more vegetables...or hide herself and attempt to make something grow for him, though this time of year she can only think of tubers, and she's not sure if all of them would be safe for this child to eat...
That said she is scooting closer to him, crawling on her belly so he won't be intimidated by her size.
Or at least, he heard a voice coming from said wolf.
That...wasn't supposed to happen...right?
The markings and the other things upon the animal don't seem correct either, so obviously not a typical wolf.
More at ease, he falls back on his ass, watching the critter scoot closer, then looks at the dried meat. After a moment he takes a bite, needing to tear the dried flesh with a bit of force, but it's pretty good. After chewing and swallowing it, he tears off another strip and holds it out again while he eats the rest obediently.
The thing is, while Amaterasu is more than able of understanding the beloved children of man, there are some things that are just alien to her as an ant's feelings to a human.
He's surprised, but perhaps just the child is surprised she is smart enough to feed him. To insist.
But when he makes another offering, she accepts, daintily taking it between sharp teeth so she does not hurt him, slowly chewing on it. Fufufu~ I will take this as a sign of thanks, little one.
Slowly, as more of the truth appears to the Creature's eyes, this includes diaphanous flowers around where her as she lays out in front of him. Poor child. She whimpers, placing her head on her front paws as she chews and contemplates him and what foods she might find for him.
He smiles a little as she accepts the meat and he opens up the other bag to try the dried fish. Different, much more salty, but good, and, like the venison, offers her some after having the first bite.
She kept saying poor child though…
“Why do you keep saying that?” He spoke, “I do not…wish to be pitied.”
She stops chewing, and possibly everything about her stands up even as she remains down on her stomach. Finally she lifts her head up, and sighs. Pity cannot be wished away. It is an emotion. One that many a human have come to think negatively on, when if anything being told not to feel pity is wrong.
Not doing something with the pity you feel is more wrong than feeling it, dear one.
She nods at the meat she brought, going back to joining him in nibbling. Misguided or not, never slap away a helping hand.
Perhaps this will be an unwinnable argument with him, but it is best give him a lesson all the same.
"I would rather have...acceptance, than pity." he said, "And I do not...reject help."
Case in point, the food she brought to him. He could survive another week comfortably without eating, but the food had been offered though he had nothing to give back.
I think one can be pitied and accepted. As I said, pity is an emotion. Acceptance is...is a choice. It is controllable as the power to lash out and break things when angry. To bite when frightened. To laugh when happy. To cry when sad. Hard to control? Perhaps. Fools will pretend it is so at least...you shouldn't listen to them. This old lady can say you can control your acceptance like the glide of ink on parchment. She stretches again, now placing her head on his lap, if he decides not to pull back. Did you know? Cats pity their human owners often. That's the reason they present them with kills. They think humans cannot feed themselves. Ufufu~
And if he asked what he should give, she already decided returning the bits of meat are his offering to her. Just as the gods of rice and farming accept back a part of the harvest, so can a gift be shared with the god who gifted it.
He allowed her to rest her head there and gently stroked her ears, listening to her words. He was indeed new to the world. One an emotion, the other an action. Choice.
She grumbles in pleasure at the touch, the same as any canine would. Her ears and the fur of her great head are soft, warm as the sun on a spring day. Very good... Are you enjoying the meat, my sweet? I don't have any vegetables to add to your meal currently.
He buries his fingers deep in her fur, marveling at the warmth and softness, massaging her ears too for good measure. She was the sun itself and he was tempted to lay his head down and take a rest with her guardianship, but he wasn’t sure how long she would linger.
“Yes, thank you…I will find parsnips and mushrooms later for perhaps a stew. The dried meat will sustain me a long time though.”
Stew is nice...my nature has me feeding on the metaphysical over the actual... I know humans and true wolves eat as often as possible. At least once a day. Aaaand she rolls over so he can get her on her neck and chest as well. She would stay until he work up, or somebody she knew she could trust came to watch over him.
I wasn't sure you would hear me, so I didn't think to ask. Few in this world have it in them to see the truth of me, let alone hear. I'm glad you too think it is good meat.
It's...well in the Eastern Lands of Nippon where I come from, I am what is called a god. The highest ranked in my domain. Different though from the being you call God here though. Compared to that one, I guess you could call me an angel.
She hums stretch a little so her big paws stretch in the air.
Okami Amaterasu. I bear many titles, though in concerns to anything under the sun, especially the good and good at heart, I am known as the Mother to All. Regardless of parentage and circumstance of birth.
In other words, she doesn't know the exact circumstance, but she suspects the Creature is not of woman born and finds this irrelevant to her duties toward him. Victor Frankenstein would most definitely get a good judgey glare and a scolding whether he could hear it or not, but the child she is happily snuggling with would not.
A god or an angel. Both divine and wondrous. Neither had ever graced him before.
Setting the bags of dried meat aside, he bowed his head, resting it against the wolf’s chest, listening to her heart, fingers buried in her fur tightly a moment.
[ The pause to think is manufactured, he remembers perfectly. ]
The twins and I took breakfast in the Lounge's kitchen so we could fiddle with a potential brunch menu item during school events open to the public. It was a strata--something of a baked, savory variant on french toast--where we repurposed the stale leftover bread from the dining service, eggs, sun-dried tomatoes, pancetta, parmesan, mozarella, and the usual spices. It had an excellent combination of chewiness and fluffiness, and the tomatoes in particular adding a pleasant tang, but I think a bolder seasoning selection would make a stronger impression. It was fairly heavy, so I opted for black coffee instead of a cappuccino.
Lunch was in the school dining hall. One of the selections was broiled cod on couscous, which is always especially excellent on days like yesterday when they've included sultanas and sliced almonds. The cooked vegetable sides were a little underwhelming, so I went with the lemon-dill broccoli slaw. Whoever added the dill was perhaps a bit heavy-handed, but still, quite enjoyable.
After classes concluded I took a thermos of orange blossom and hibiscus tea to my club meeting. Idia attempted to persuade me to try one of those little candy kits he enjoys so much, but I would have to be paid to eat something so repulsive declined.
For dinner, I had the lamb and barley stew from the dining hall, which also included kale, garlic, and white beans. And hey were serving I dessert I hadn't tried before--a rhubarb custard pie. Ordinarily I'd have passed on dessert, but I was going well for the day and had a full shift at the Lounge after, so I had a small slice. I think the crust could have been spiced up a bit, but the tart and creamy combination is something I'd very much like to see on our menu come spring.
After we shut down for the day I had the three leftover orange slices from the bar, since they weren't enough to justify the fridge space, and two cups of rooibos tea while finishing up my homework.
They really do lack any appeal to the senses, haha. But they're fun to make! Especially on a livestream. The mild discomfort really appeals to the viewers!
I think I'd rather uses the time to make food that has value beyond novelty, if I was going to bother. But I suppose if you're making it with an audience then you *are* getting paid to eat it.
I'm so glad you're willing to compromise! Do you want to choose a kit? We can stream a promotion collab! And I promise a meal more like the ones you described can follow it, haha.
I wouldn't say I've strictly agreed to anything yet, but I'm absolutely open to negotiation. What sort of streaming do you do, generally?
And I suppose there might be some sort of amusing irony to something that looks like seafood. Idia did attempt to persuade me with a sushi-shaped set, once.
Mhm, as an idol my streams are usually based on how my fans vote in a poll. Something food related was the winner but I've already made plans for cooking baking and a gingerbread house.
I wouldn't mind a candy sushi set if that's the way you're leaning? I won't tell Idia if you don't.
My, beholden to the whims of an audience. You must manage a wide variety to keep them sated. But a gingerbread house is quite seasonally appropriate.
I may look into some other sets to see what all's available, but I certainly would keep that one towards the top of the selection list. Out of curiosity, do you go to other locations to do your streams?
Changing locations can be tricky due to the importance of lighting and appeasing finicky technology. The streams are intentionally casual so it's best not to overexert myself.
Well, if you ever care to do change things up, our Lounge has a very relaxed atmosphere, and we have access to some very adept technomaniacs. [ He will drag Idia kicking and screaming. ]
[Flattered to learn Azul thinks Tomoe is worth the hassle.]
Maybe an after-hours stream can be arranged some day. Let's agree that we can both wear Lounge-branded t-shirts while making the candy kit? As a teaser, of course.
