Grooming is an important part of many species' rituals. It keeps them clean, healthy, and content. And a good bath? It can change the whole tone of a day from terrible to relaxed and blissful.

But nudity is sometimes viewed as a weakness - and it is almost always sexualized - so bathing is often kept a private matter. If you do share these moments with someone, they're almost always a significant other or a sexual partner.

Like you're doing now.

Whether it be after a battle or after sex (or before sex, even), the two of you are going to get clean. Be sure to help each other out with that, won't you? After all, there are places on the back that just can't be reached...

( in spite of the heat that curled and seeped from the bathtub, the bathroom itself was ice cold leaving the mirrors covered in a layer of condensation. seated at the edge by the tub on the floor, kaname gently allowed his fingers to pool into the hot water as he looked down at his hand with a gentle expression. he was far from being the merciless and dark monster most stories portrayed vampires as— in fact, he was far too kind for those endeavors.

still his appearance often left others and humans wondering who he truly was. despite radiating kindness, he was far too mysterious. in fact his actions only left those around him pondering just what exactly he was thinking.

it was only in these moments, where he'd gotten closer to will and become somewhat of a confidant that his actions could perhaps become just a bit more predictable. sometimes, predictable. )

I would have never figured you'd be the type to get all scrapped up and bruised from a fight. Color me surprised.

( as he spoke, his fingers rose up from the water, scooping some of the liquid and immediately squirting it in the direction of will's knees. a moment of silence then a smile broke before he spoke once more. )

[Steam curls thick around him, and Will's hands press against the rough tile as he tries to center himself. He doesn't intend for this to be long, conservation being instrumental, but not smelling like a he crawled out of a sewer line does help to clear his thoughts. Thoughts that are so hazy that it takes him a moment to realize he's not alone.

He's clearly not the only one with late night showers in mind.]

I didn't think anyone else was up [he rubs the water out of his eyes] I can do a quick rinse off if you need to...

[ Cornelia has fallen, and the capital has been reclaimed.

It has been many long years since Fhirdiad was last so joyful. Now the people have a reason to celebrate. And people are simple at heart, Byleth thinks. No one who is out drinking and cheering in the streets really remembers how the crown prince was declared dead nearly four years ago. What matters to the commonfolk is that they suffered and chafed under the rule of a tyrant who thought them no better than cattle, and now that their rightful king has returned to claim his throne, they have room to hope for a better future.

Byleth knows all of this because he used to walk the roads of Fódlan as a common mercenary, and if someone had asked him then what he thought of the king of Faerghus at the time, he would have answered truthfully that he didn't think much of the man at all.

Now the king of Faerghus is in the royal bath chamber with him, seated in his grand stone tub with his head in Byleth's lap. The professor's hands work shampoo through his hair, massaging it evenly from its roots to its ends, sometimes scratching lightly through his scalp and down his neck in the way that he knows Dimitri likes.

(They have both been in the habit of bathing and sleeping together for some time now. Ever since the day that Rodrigue died, and Dimitri fell apart, put himself back together. Finally took the professor's outstretched hand where it had been metaphorically waiting for quite some time. All of the other Blue Lions know what the relationship between Dimitri and Byleth has turned into, but for the most part — besides a few sly quips from Sylvain — no one has said anything about it to either of their faces. They are at war, and there are better things to worry about than whether or not it is wise for the king to be in bed with his strategist.

Some of them still remember the days, all those years ago, when Dimitri straightened slightly in his seat whenever the professor came around.)

Byleth cannot help but think to himself that there isn't anything else he'd rather be doing. Byleth also cannot help but think to himself that someday this will have to come to an end.

It must be strange for them both, for different reasons. It must be strange for Dimitri to finally sink into the same bath from his childhood which he has now not enjoyed in many long years and know that it belongs to him again. It must be strange for Byleth, who is quietly marveling a level of luxury that he has never seen or known on account of the fact that the luxuries of the monastery alone already seemed to him like the Goddess's paradise on earth.

Too sharply, it occurs to him that Dimitri is the king. Too possessively, Byleth lets his hands come to a rest around Dimitri's neck so that he can loosely hold his favorite student and just claim him for a little while. ]

...Mercedes and Annette were talking about putting together some sort of celebratory feast.

[ He likes to lower his voice in a way that tickles Dimitri's eardrum and trickles down his neck. ]

It's a good idea, I think. For morale.
