[ She partly blames herself. She tries to keep eyes on all the Losers, but she's even more attentive to Jensen. It's not that he can't hold his own. It's just that tech is more his domain. It makes her fiercely protective of him, a feeling that's grown more and more since their first night. Like a cat, she leaves him little gifts. Candy from MREs, an extra blanket for his bedroll, a cold beer if they have some. Practical things.

She hadn't been able to stop him from taking the hit. She's too late to even get a shot in. All she can do is watch the way he hits the ground with his head banging harshly on the ground in away that makes his skull bounce. He doesn't lose consciousness thankfully. He's back on his feet a moment later. Her fifty caliber round takes out the man going in for the kill. She's darkly satisfied that she gets the shot right through his left eye.

Once they finish up, it's late twilight. Mission completed. Evac will come get them in the morning, so they'll have to rough it until then. Pooch treats all the wounds incurred though naturally, Jensen is stubborn about it. She stands next to him while he's being treated with her arms crossed and an intense look as she supervised.

Low grade concussion, Pooch declares, His lizard brain just needs time to rest and recover. Watch for seizures or vomiting.

Cougar makes note of all of that. Roque has first watch, and she trades him her share of coffee for him to take her shift too. Jensen is already in his sleeping bag, so she catches him by surprise when she approaches with her own bag in her arms. She wordlessly unzips his sleeping bag and zips it together with hers to create a bigger one that gives her the space to crawl in next to him. She's tucked at his back. ]

It's cold. [ Her words murmur against his neck. ] You need to rest.

[It's just a bed, Yang Cheng tells himself. There's no reason to be nervous. But his fingers are clumsy as he grabs the edge of the cover and jerks it back. All grace abandons him as he slides onto the mattress. His ratty t-shirt catches on the bedsheets and rides up and his legs feel gangly, awkwardly taking up space. Has the bed suddenly got smaller? Can you fuck up sharing a bed this quickly?

His mind whirls as he pulls the cover over himself. He's never slept beside the radiating warmth of another person before tonight. It's not just another person, though. It's Shang Chao, and that knowledge makes tension coil in his gut hotly. Ugh, is it too late to throw himself on the floor?]

They're scapegoats of the church, despite dedicating themselves to spreading knowledge and helping people, so Speakers know a thing or two about being outcasts. Happy to work in any of your preferences for being trapped in bad weather. Maybe she stumbles into his hiding space also needing somewhere to hide? )
