[It was absolutely one of those days. Jane slouched further in the chair, head pillowed on one arm as she played with the ends of Bones hair where she laid. Too still. It was fucking eerie and as soon as she woke up Jane was going to apologize for every dumb thing she had ever done before in her LIFE because if Bones even felt half of what Jane was feeling right now every time Jane landed her ass in the sick bay, well, apologies might not be enough.]

That was fucking stupid. [Jane grumbled, watching the lights on the bed monitor beep and jump with every inhale. Chapel had turned off the alarm earlier that morning when Jane had accidentally set it off for the third time, but it wasn't exactly needed. Bones was physically fine. She just wasn't waking up.]

What the hell, Bones? You can't have my job. Only one of us can pull stunts like that. I thought we had a deal.

[It'd been two days. Two days. Seven hours. Twelve minutes. Thirty-nine seconds. Spock would be so proud. She tightened her fingers in Bones brown hair and let out a frustrated sigh.]

You've got to wake up before Uhura or Spock kills me. I can't do this without you. I can't. Don't you know that? You keep me grounded, you asshole. I'm better with you.

[Maybe it was the fact that the universe seemed to owe Jane Kirk one. Or for some reason her stock of luck in reserve was always enough to cover what happened to the crew closest to her. But Bones was going to be fine. If she was awake she would have told the Captain that. The only flaw in their usual system was that the patient in question was the doctor herself.

Drawn back from whatever void that the doctor's consciousness resided in. Bones blinks slowly, up to the all too familiar lights of a medical bay.]

Dammit, Jane. What- [Her voice was just a little too rough, she had to stop for a moment.]

Just keep talking, kid. It's nice to hear your voice.

[It hurt. It hurt so much to just hear her voice that for a second Jane almost thought she'd hallucinated it and then Bones kept talking. Jane choked on a laugh, leaning over and pressed a hard kiss to Bones' mouth because you know what? Fuck it. They'd been doing this too each other way too much to pretend not to care more than either of them did and Jane knew Bones would never bite the bullet on this one.

And if she didn't do it now, she'd never get the nerve up to do so again. She pulled back, smoothing the hair back from Bones' face and offered a wobbly grin.]I love you too, Bones.

[The kiss was a surprise, and then again, it really wasn't. Bones knew. She knew Jane better than the woman knew herself.]

Yeah, you too. [It was so soft, almost impossible to hear, but as much as McCoy wanted to be able to say more, the knot of emotion that welled up in her throat wasn't inclined to be spoken around. Big speeches were going to have to wait another day.

Bones lifts a tired, weak hand up to catch Kirk's wrist and hold it lightly.]

Did it work out? [Her grand heroic moment.]

[Jane's grin was slow blooming. A part of her wanted to lie so Bones wouldn't try it again, but it had been so damn awesome.]

Touya could never say that he regretted his relationship with Jin. They of course chose to keep it secret at Touya's behest, but it was more for protection as opposed to embarrassment. Their relationship went beyond anything that the shinobi would deem "necessary for survival", so it was best that no one know to keep them out of trouble; both with their allies and their enemies. That was one thing they didn't need: vulnerability. No, discretion was best in this situation.

So when he heard about the mission that he was being sent on, an S class, he wanted to make sure there was nothing left of it. He didn't want Jin to be preoccupied with him and his well-being--the Wind Demon had other things to worry about on his own mission. The last thing he wanted to be was a distraction; but he knew the other well. He knew that Jin wouldn't accept what he was going to say, but he had to convince Jin that they were done.

And so there he was, waiting by the river where they had agreed to meet after Touya told Jin they needed to talk.

Wallowing around in his own misery was getting him nowhere, and he knew it, but being hungover was not a natural state of being for him no matter how much he tried to ignore it and get on with his life. That simply wasn't happening though, and Signless had to try very hard to ignore the sounds of his sons waking up, his head down on the table in front of him. He barely looked around as Kankri chose to take away the cutting board and vegetables, finishing them himself and gathering what he assumed his father had wanted to cook. He looked like he was about to launch off into a shpeil about how the Signless should take better care of himself, but out of respect for his father and unwillingness to aggravate his hangover he bit his lip. When he handed off the food to Karkat to actually cook though, he sighed at Signless dismissing himself to sequester himself in the bathroom.

The arrival of the Psiionic bearing food barely surprised either of the boys and Karkat leaned around his brother to point down the hall toward the bathroom. Signless was sitting on the tile floor with his cheek pressed against the porcelain bowl, dozing lightly in the dark.

Dropping off the food in the kitchen first, Psii said his good-mornings to the Vantas boys, asking if they wanted help with anything before they shooed him away to take care of Signless. He found his disheveled moirail easily, and before he flipped the lightswitch, he unscrewed two of the three lights above the mirror, so it wouldn't be quite as bright.

He crouched in front of Signless and put his hand against his cheek. "If you need me to get you back to your bedroom, I'll do it. But I'm not letting you be a bathroom dweller. And I fucking told you to be careful with that whiskey, Vantas."

Signless just groaned and put his arm up over his eyes, reaching up and pulling the lid of the toilet down and laying his head on that instead. "Fuck you and fuck the alcohol and fuck all of this hangover bullshit," he grumbled, giving a quiet hiccup and whining quietly as he opened one eye toward Psii, pawing at him feebly. "Can you just leave me here to die? That would be good too."

"No chance in hell." Psii put his arm around Signless' chest and the other around his waist, getting him to his feet before walking him off to his bedroom again. Once back in bed, he leaned over his friend, shaking his head. "Let me get you some painkillers," he whispered, before he went to grab the bag he'd brought with him. He returned in short order, popping a pair of pills from a blister pack and then offered them up with a cup of water to drink them down with.

He whispered as he sat at the side of Signless' bed, "Why were you even drinking to begin with? You know you can't handle your liquor."

[ hermine is caught up in her calculations. it has taken her a while to blend out the noises coming from newton's side of the room, the way he talks to kaiju parts and the music he insists helps him think, but she has succeeded at it in the end and now her mind is blissfully submerged in mathematics and numbers and their meaning, hand quick over the chalkboard and yet not quite quick enough to keep up with her mind.

she hasn't seen vince in weeks, but she pushes that thought from her mind. there is no room for missing her husband; there are more important things at stake. she has certainly had enough time to familiarise herself with the occasional pang, rarer than she thinks they would be for most people. hermine has always been good at being on her own. ( it is telling, perhaps, that she misses him at all. but then, there is a reason they are married. )

she hasn't seen him in weeks and does not expect to see him now, which is why his voice saying her name barely even registers at first, or does not register as anything but an unwelcome distraction from her thought process. when she turns to chew out whoever dares disturb her and sees him, however, she lets the hand holding the chalk sink to her side and the acerbic words die on her tongue. ]

Why are you here? [ there are possibilities upon possibilities of things that might have happened to require his presence here. few of them are good. ]

[Vince knew what he was signing up for when he asked Hermine to marry him. After all, it wasn't like she lied to him when they first met in physical therapy all those years ago. He knew what he was signing up for when she started to work for the Jaeger program. He knew what he was signing up for when she came home and told him she'd been issued her own set of rooms in the Shatterdome so that she could work without having to commute.

It still stings a little to come home after three weeks out of the country to find an empty apartment and a fridge full of spoiled food.]

I only just got home, [he explains, striding into the room like he's not totally out of place here, among kaiju organs — that he carefully avoids — and bits and pieces of machinery.] You weren't there. I wanted to see you.

[ hermine turns to throw newton a dark glare, both because of his suggestion and because it gives her a moment longer to decode vince's words and tone of voice and body language, to switch gears because she should have remembered that he was due to return today and didn't so much forget as ignore the knowledge in favour of focusing on her calculations. ]

Only you would suggest such an unsanitary thing. [ there are kaiju parts in this lab. it's a work space. even if he were to leave, there would be no sex in this lab.

only after that barb does she turn to vince, taking her cane to step closer to him, voice lowered. it probably won't be enough to keep newton from overhearing — and she is neither soft nor squishy, thank you very much — but it gives at least the illusion of privacy. ]
